Arrival Story:
We decided to adopt another Golden Retriever after the death of our beloved Lance, who had died in the winter of 1998. Our daughter had been away from home for several months after the death of Lance, and upon her return, we started the search for another Golden. We wanted one close in size and color to Lance. We looked at many Goldens before we found McDuff. He was a pudgy, active little boy when we adopted him. His biological father had been killed by a car shortly before his birth. McDuff' looks so much like Lance but, oh, what a difference in personalities.... both have/had charming personalities, however.

Bio:
McDuff is just a big sissy. He is scared of almost everything, except competiton from Hunter or Oberon (our daughter's Border Collie mix dog). McDuff cowers when having his ears cleaned... it is a two or three person job... just to hold him up. Brushing him is almost as much fun. To add to the problems, Hunter is trying to get you to clean his ears or brush him while you are attempting to work on McDuff. McDuff loves to play ball but gives up when Hunter beats him to the ball. He is a wonderful "guard" dog and barks at any NEW or UNWANTED visitors or vehicles.

I made my Rainbow Bridge journey on August 7, 2011

McDuff's mom here ~ I actually wrote this the night of McDuff's journey to the Rainbow Bridge. I have tried to post it since to no avail. It is as I wrote it on that day.

This afternoon, McDuff made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge. His dad and I are still in total shock. McDuff had not been ill, though he was almost 12 1/2 years of age. He has given us nothing but joy during his all too short journey with us. My husband came in late this afternoon and said McDuff had gotten out of the fence as he was not coming when called. Ed had walked the perimeter of the yard and did not see McDuff. We live on almost an acre so it is a big yard. He told me to call the Animal Control to see if anyone had picked him up. I asked my husband if the gate was open or any holes were dug under the fence. He said that none of that had happened. I then asked him if possible McDuff had passed away but he told me he had walked all over the yard and did not see him. So, Ed went out to hunt for McDuff and I proceeded to call Animal Control... which was a nightmare as it is not staffed to help you on weekends. I was told to call back the first thing Monday morning and then had to leave a message for a call back. I decided to go outside to do a more detailed search. I had not even begun my walk around the fence when I spotted McDuff laying behind some prickly bushes. I called out to him and there was no response. I watched him and there was no breathing. I could not get to him because of the thorns so I called Ed. He came back... but I knew McDuff was already an angel. Ed got to him. McDuff had only recently crossed into doggie Heaven as his nose was still a little moist and still cool. Both Ed and I are devastated. The only comfort is the peaceful manner in which he was laying... he looked like he was peacefully sleeping. I called a dear friend, Barbi Meade to tell her about McDuff. I called my vet at home and she told us what to do to keep him until tomorrow. We will be taking our handsome, wonderful boy to Dr. Booker for one more trip... how he always hated that trip. This trip will be to have him cremeated so he can return to his loving home. We will be so lost without him. McDuff never caused a problem in his life. He was a beautiful soul on earth and I know he will make one of the best angels ever. He left some amazing pawprints in our hearts. He will always be with us and forever loved. I clipped some of his fur to keep in a memory box. I just feel so lost at this moment. I take peace knowing he was not sick and apparently he did not suffer as he made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Heaven gained a most beautiful angel. Forgive me if I am rambling... I am just in such shock and disbelief.

The doc doc stole my hair.

Yikes! The cats ARE right! There are thieves at our doc doc's!! Warning! This afternoon, my pawrents took me to the doc doc because I had a "place" on my head. They thought I had hurt myself. It turns out that I had a "hot" spot on my head. And do you know what they did to me? They robbed my poor little head of it's hair. I now have this bald spot on my head and my "hot" spot is shining through. Sheesh. And they took my blood... yes, the cats are right... they are vampires at the doc doc's. And NOT only did they rob me of my hair and blood but they also pulled a skin tag off my upper lip. The doc doc just ripped it right off of me. Well, I never! I did show them a think or two, however. I tried to hide under the seat and also tried to open a hole in the floor. You might say that I had my doc doc on her knees. BOL! Then, after my exam, she had the nerve to tell my pawrents that I have an ear infection. My pawrents could not believe it as I am showing no signs of any distress. But, ol' eagle eye doc doc caught it. And my mom took pictures when I came home and she had the nerve to put them on my page. Sheesh, can't a guy have a little privacy and can't my mom keep a secret?

So now, I am on Otomax, Ciprofoxacin 750 mg twice a day and need Gentaspray four times a day. Whiel I was there I got my 3 year Rabies vaccination, my 3 year Distemper/Parvo vaccination and my yearly Bordetella vaccine (but I made my doc doc chase me to try to drown me on it). They checked me for heartworms and worms but I was clean... YAY!

I have to return on the 27th of this month for a recheck. I hope they won't take more blood or hair. I need to tell the cats they are right about the doc doc.
