Sasha was a Christmas present from daddy to mama in December of '94 and it has snowballed from there...
Bio: SASHA lived with us from Dec 94-May 99. Then she was rehomed because she was aggressive with Cali and Levi.
NIKO shared our lives from Feb 95 till December 07.
CALI came in April of 95 and is going strong!
RINGO came in December of 95 and went to the Bridge in Sept 06
LEVI joined us in April 98 and plans on staying a long while...
MEG's short life with us was from Nov 99 till Jan 01. She went to the Bridge much too young.
FLING sprung into our pack in Jan 04 and is still wrecking havoc!
COCOBEAR (CB) joined us in July of 07 and is learning about big dog packs!
CALI joined Niko, Ringo and Meg at the Bridge in June 08 and ROPER came to live with us a short time later.
The kids wanted another small dog, and we added GYPSY in February 09. TONKA joined his Auntie Fling in our pack Aug 09.
We lost our beloved COCOBEAR much too soon in April of 2010.
JUNA came to our posse in August 10.
It seems to be something our family has done since we first had dogs. Every one of our dogs can be standoffish to downright nasty with visiting dogs, so we always like to have dogs come to stay with us. We fostered for Aussie rescue when we lived in Ohio, and Cali begrudgingly shared our home with 7 or 8 foster Aussies over a couple of years.
We have had friends' dogs come and stay with us on trips, and we helped get 4 puppies off on the right paw- one for a friend, for our Grandma and Pap Pap and 2 Chihuahuas for our niece and nephew. All 4 of those puppies lived LONG and happy lives.
The past few summers we have socialized some puppies for Fling and Tonka's breeder. She said our kids are expert puppy raisers! We've also taken care of some adult dogs or older puppies who just needed a little more social time. Right now we have Garrett for a few months- he needs lots of family time and is probably the sweetest dog we've had here as a guest.
It will be hard to give Garrett back, and we really don't have to, but that will make room for the next dog we take in. Our current gang needs lots of practice at being nice to strange dogs, but every dog who comes helps us all out! And we think we've helped them out too- it's a win-win for us all :)
Our bookshelves downstairs had all of the ashes, pawprints and assorted items from each of us who have gone to the Bridge. Cali and Cocobear's ashes were still in the metal tins from the crematorium :(
Mama finally ordered urns for Cal, Coco and Levi and when they came the urn for Coco was TINY. He needed an urn to himself, but just as in life, Cali and Levi are now together! If you look in the photo- you can see it better by looking at the photobook-you will see many precious things from our Bridge pack. The urn that had been for Coco is in the front right part of the photo.
Now FINALLY we are all together, clean and organized and given the respect we deserve! Meg, Ringo, Niko, Cali, Coco and Levi- your family misses you every day but we know where you are ;)
In our hearts until the day we meet again!
The first boss in this house was our American Eskimo, Sasha. She got in some pretty serious battles with Cali and Levi and we felt the best thing for everyone was to rehome her. She was the last non-blue alpha we have had...
Cali was a glorious Queen. She was the smallest in our pack and by far the smartest. Niko, Ringo, Levi, Meg and Coco totally bowed down to her, and Fling only started to challenge her near the end. While Cali ruled, peace for the most part, reigned. No one dared to challenge Cal, but Levi did not get along with Ringo or Niko.
When Cal passed, we thought Fling may take over. It was not to be. Levi took over by force, and he let everyone know that he was a force to be reckoned with. The only pack member he allowed to approach him was Fling. He was much more of an iron fist than Cali had been, and our dogs were constantly on edge.
We knew things would change when Levi was gone, but we didn't really know what to expect. For a short time, it seemed like no one had any idea of what to do, and it was sure quiet around here. A new leader has emerged and she is almost the smallest and perhaps the youngest. That's right- Ringo's mini-me- the June Bug! I think she is going to rule a lot more like Cali. All of the dogs have a healthy respect for the terrier part of her, but she really only wants to play and have fun.
Maybe in a couple years we will have a blue boy from Tonka, and maybe we will have yet another blue leader. For now, Juna is doing a good job and though mama is sad, the rest of the pack is doing great.
