Hi pals,

We are coming to the end of 2011 and will be welcoming in 2012 shortly. What a year it has been. In my house we followed the various wars closely and prayed for everyone’s safe return. It seemed to us that over time the American public became less sensitive to those who were risking their bodies and lives to fight for our continued freedom. When the wars began all of the news stations would start the news broadcasts with what was going on overseas, but as the years passed I noticed that hardly happened any more.

2011 was also the year of foreclosures and that terrible recession that apparently our Government is choosing to ignore. The recession hit our neighborhood hard and almost every third home, at one time, was foreclosed upon. For a while it was depressing to go for walks because daily we would see more of those terrible orange NO TRESPASSING signs that the local sheriff placed in a foreclosed home’s window telling all who happened to see them that someone lost their American dream. There would be no home for them, and to make matters worse, many had also lost their jobs too because companies had started sending work overseas where it is cheaper to have products made.

With the loss of the home and job many pets found themselves in the local animal shelters because they could no longer be kept. Due to the increase in animals being turned in, our two local shelters changed the holding time from five days to three. A beloved pet had three days to be adopted and if it wasn’t then it would be put down. It didn’t matter if it was a pure breed or mixed because there was no room at the shelters so touch choices had to be made.

And who could forget the natural disasters that occurred all over the world? There were raging fires that spread throughout Arizona, Texas and New Mexico; the violent tornados that swept across the Plains and Southeast; drought that continued to be a problem in Texas and Oklahoma as well as in Africa. All of these disasters impacted many but who could possibly forget the Earthquakes and tsunami that changed Japan and New Zealand forever?

There were other events that occurred during 2011, like SAY Media buying Dogster/Catster. Was this a disaster, well the vote is still out on it because changes are still occurring. I do know some of my pals got tired of the fleas and left and others are taking the “wait and see” approach.

I for one hope and pray that 2012 is a better year for all. I’m grateful for all of the pals I have made and am looking forward to meeting new ones in the coming year. I hope the incoming year brings love, health and happiness to all.

Hugs and kisses,

Coco Rose

We agree Miss Coco, 2011 has been a very tough year. It is so very difficult to see children and animals fall into the cracks.
Seems when times are BAD children and animals suffer the most.
As much as we would like to believe the worst is behind us...
Don't think so...Think there are more hard times ahead of us.
Our pals here at dogster and catster brighten our days in so many ways....We are grateful for each and every fur pal and their furmilies.
We pray everyday that God will protect and provide for each of us. Happy New Year Miss Coco Rose and Mr. Puff.
Hugs and kisses,Amazing Grace

Pawsonally, I think things are getting better. It is a shame about the foreclosures in your neighborhood, and the sad effects it has on dogs and children. One of Mommy's cousins who works in a hospital says there have been more cases of child abuse--probably because the parents get so upset about the economy that they take it out on their children--and I'm sure some of them take it out on their pets too.
