My birthday

My Birthday is coming up. Yep, on the 23rd of August, I will officially be 5! Kayla says she's really worried, and she's being extra careful. She's never had a dog that died of old age before, everyone of them, she says, died young. But I'm not worried! Nope, not one bit.

Kayla says that for my birthday, we're gonna hopefully get some cake, or ice cream. Oh boy! Ice cream! I love ice cream!

Hopefully I'll be able to see Nanny and Uncle Gary. They might have gifts for me! Not that I care, unless it's ice cream, then I care.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, I have to go to the Vet. Ewww! Ha ha. Also, I have one new sister, and one new brother. They are both cats. Nova, she's the girl, and Sukki, he's the boy. They are going to the Vet, too. Mom doesn't know how old they are yet, also, they said something about some surgery. I don't know. But during the surgery, I'm gonna be REAL worried about them. Yep. Worried. So is Kayla, she's probably gonna cry. She says anything could go wrong. So, I don't know.

Did you know our vet office doesn't have a place for the kittens to stay at after surgery? Yep, it's true. Or something like that. Kayla's last dog had an internal parasite, but the Vet's office wouldn't hold him there and she said it was because they don't have holding cages.

I don't like the Vet.

Walks!

Yay for walks! I love walks, obviously, that's almost all that I talk about. My sister takes me on one everyday! Which is why she bought me a velcro jacket to wear. It has a strap in the front and one that goes behind my legs. It's really comfortable, but Kayla really needs to wash it! She says that me and that jacket will be together furever! ^.^

Yesterday, a little puppy came over. She tired me out! She came over once before that when she was just about 8 or so weeks old, so atleast she was out of the nipping faze. She wanted me to play, but I was too pooped from already playing with her! Thank goodness my sis was there, Lily, the puppy, tried to follow me into her room, but Kayla "shooed" her out. I so needed that rest! She turned her new fan on for me, and I slept like a rock! ^.^

This morning, I watched Kayla get onto the big yellow twinkie. It was horrible! They always make fun of me when I poo, but today, they didn't! Thank goodness. Sis says that people can be so immature. I looked at her like, "Tell me about it!"

I haven't been on any recent car rides, except one where Dad forgot something and we turned around. But they left me there. Kayla said that it was because Dad neglected to tell her that someone was getting a ride with us. We have a long car, but only two rows of seating. Kayla, this summer, is going to try to get a job and the local animal shelter, and she says that when she saves up enough money, she's going to buy Mom a Sedan or SUV of some kind that's great on gas. I can't wait to put my smell in it! ^.^

My Mom is going back to school online, and she has been really stressed. On top of that, she still has to run errands! Man, that must really suck. Kayla has been really helping her, but she doesn't like it very much. She keeps helping because she doesn't want Mom to fail. Anyway, Dad's cooking something that smells fantastic! Got to go!

Power Outage

Well, today the rain storm made the power go out again. My Sis is typing this from her school, because we do not have our internet connection working right now. Anyway, that was because of a major Ice Storm. Kayla has been taking me on more walks by herself because our brother is being rude. Anyway, got to go! Bye!!!!!

Walk?

Yay! My Sis and Brother finally started my walks again! They had stopped because Kayla got a really bad cold (she went to the doctors Twice!) and John wouldn't take me on his own often. But, now that the storms of winter are cleared for now, I'm back on my daily walks! ^.^

I'm so happy! Okay, for Christmas I got a bone, treats, and a black Kong. Mom keeps saying that she'll get me treats for it, but I like it as is! Christmas Day, I went outside to pee, and I still had it in my mouth.

New Schedule

Okay, so about a week ago my Sis put up a piece of paper in the living room. It has my potty schedule on it. Well, we were doing so well with it, until today. I have been off track all day! Kayla says that she's going to try to get me back onto it tomorrow. Since today is almost over.

In case you want to know, I have a profile on www.doggyspace.com but I'm the only one. Kayla says that hopefully soon, when we move and get caught up, I will have a new Sister. She, too, is an American Staffordshire Terrier. She is at the same rescue that I came from. Her name is Chloe. I hope she can live with us soon!

October is.....

Adopt-A-Dog Month‏! There's no better way to bring a new puppy or adult dog into your world than through adoption. When you adopt, you're opening your heart to an animal shelter or rescue center pooch who really needs a loving home. Next month is Adopt-A-Dog month, and if you're thinking about adopting a dog, there's no better month for it than October.

There’s a wonderful new site, Adopt-a-Pet, which focuses on permanent pet adoption. Victoria Stilwell, host of “It’s Me or the Dog” on Animal Planet is helping out.

Purina and Adopt-a-Pet.com, a non-profit pet adoption charity, worked together to create a “Permanent Pet Adoption” checklist, which provides tips to ensure a successful adoption.

The sad truth, unfortunately, is not all adoptions end with happy endings. Too many times dogs are adopted without fully realizing what a huge responsibility dog ownership is. Cute puppies grow up, dogs don’t always listen, time is needed for care and grooming, and the costs involved can be very expensive.

The key to changing this is education. That is the crucial factor in keeping pets in forever homes. The checklist below, info compiled using a survey of over 180 shelters, is an invaluable resource.

Before You Adopt Give This List Some Thought:

1. When you adopt, you need to make a real commitment to care for your pet for its entire life, no matter what that entails, just as you would with a child.

2. Be prepared for a pet to affect other parts of your life for as long as you have the pet (can be up to 15 years for a dog and 20 years for cat). Your pet’s well-being will have to be considered in all kinds of decisions, including travel, social life, relocating to a new home, adopting other pets, having children, etc.

3. Verify in advance that you’re allowed to keep a pet where you live, especially if you rent or belong to a homeowners’ association.

4. Make any necessary modifications to your yard and fence, if you have one, to provide for your pet’s safety and to prevent your pet from escaping.

5. Never give a pet as a gift.

6. Choose a pet appropriate to your living situation and lifestyle. Figure out what size, age, and energy-level pet is most appropriate for you.

7. Never adopt a pet on a whim or because you feel it’s love-at-first-sight. Do your research and carefully consider all the aspects and implications of adopting before you make a decision.

8. If you’re adopting a pet for your kids, understand that the responsibility is yours. Kids, by their nature, often tire of things that were once new and exciting, and this includes their pets. You will most likely end up being the one who provides most of the pet’s care.

9. Plan for a several-week adjustment period during which there will be challenges.

10. Provide sufficient exercise and stimulation. (Walk dogs according to individual need, provide playtime and appropriate toys for both dogs and cats, spend time just petting and talking to your pet, include pet in family activities.)

You can also watch Victoria Stilwell, on video, as she reviews the top 10 list.

The Video is found here http://dogblog.dogster.com/2008/09/22/permanent-adoption-10- things/ on dogster's dogblog.

Besides the terrific top 10 list, the site is filled with valuable information and cool links. So, whether you’re looking to adopt or not, it’s worth stopping by and checking out Adopt-a-Pet.

My Sunday

Well, today, Mommy saw another big gash in her tire. It was the passenger side rear tire this time. The last time there was an identical gash on the same side but it was the front tire. She found out about it a little bit past twelve thirty today, and everyone who could fix it was closed. That sux because we can't afford to buy a new tire yet. But we are saving for one and switched the tire with our spare one.
