Phew
What a day.
I am missing Grace today. I wonder if I didn't make a mistake moving homes. When I lived in my one bedroom 1st floor apartment nobody cared that I had so many animals in and out of the house.
Sambuka found me while I was looking online for dogs to adopt. I read that a purebred Shiba Inu was being kept in a rabbit cage, and took a train the next day to Taichung. This took about 3 hours. I walked into a cold, damp basement to find this overweight, shedding psycho doggie tied to a cage. Her nails were so long that she couldn't walk properly. Obviously I agreed to take her back to Taipei. Easier said than done because it's difficult to transport an animal if you don't have your own car. Luckily I found a lift for her the next weekend and she was dropped off IN her rabbit cage. I found out soon after that that she had HUGE hip problems due to her confinement. The vet told me to take her back to the family, because she will cost me a lot of money. No way!!!! And 2 years later Sambuka is still my baby....a very psycho doggy though. It took more than a year to get her to stop eating her own poop(the didnt feed her enough and the vet said this is now imbedded in her memory) She eats ANYTHING she can find...walking her is a big mission. Shes also extremely moody and snaps at you one moment, and kisses you the next.
Deloris was dropped off in my neigborhood. I live on a mountain, so many people just drive up here and throw their animals out the window. I was seeing her every day for 2 weeks, then decided to take her , spay her and release her again. But she had a bad case of scabies, so I kept her with me till that healed...and of course I couldn't let go of her after that. I'm 'fostering' her at the moment...but its been months and I'm so attached!!! She is GORGEOUS and the fastest dog I have ever seen. She has huge seperation anxiety and used to wet herself if I didn't say hi to her right after I came home.
Happy is my friends dog..He was severely beaten and left for dead. Head bashed in, 2 broken legs, a broken back, his neck slashed from ear to ear...broken jaw..missing teeth. But he made such a good recovery. Unfortunately the emergency vets put a long pin in his leg when he got to the vet....and he spent a couple of months at the AnimalsTaiwan holding centre. By the time my friend adopted him the steel pin had grown into the bone, so now he has a leg that can't bend. But he gets on so well and jumps very high!!
So right now I have 3 dogs here....and Little Bear..a little kitten I found 3 weeks ago..he was only 3 weeks old at the time..Some heartless person put him in a box, shoved it under a car, and left him there..WITH rice..so by the time I got there he was covered in ants....
But I do miss Grace. Grace was dropped too...I took her to be spayed , and wanted to release her back onto the street, but she got an infection from the operation, and had to stay a bit longer. Long enough for me to see how amazingly affectionate she was. I wanted to find a home for her in Canada or the US...Because I was moving into a 3rd floor home, I just couldnt deal with 4 dogs...so got her a foster mommy 4 hours away. She stayed there very happily, until she suddenly became blind. She has been blind for 2 weeks now, and is adjusting fast. But I so want her here with me....I know I can't keep her..and all the interest abroad faded..Blind dogs just arent as attractive it seems.
I miss the way she smells...she is older than a year and still smells like a puppy. And she flops around when she runs...something she is scared to do right now. She used to take all the stuffed animals, put them outside the house in a line..and lay there waiting for praise.
Some days I wish I could just forget about people...my flatmates complain about the hair....
Should I just have stayed in my old place, kept all the dogs and became one of those lonely foreigners in a foreign country that talks to their animals? Sounds wonderful to me!!!!
