Arrival Story:
In 2001 Plumm and I moved out of the city to get away from a rising crime rate, out to the "burbs" and into a larger single home with a nice lot and lots of gardens. No more sidewalks for us! After unpacking (we downsized our stuff quite a bit!) Plumm & I discovered there was more than enough room for a new family member! We were both slowing down a bit & I figured he could use the company/excitement of a buddy - the logical choice: a little girl Lakie, preferably red like Plumm! The search was on!! With the help of the internet I located a breeder in TX who had a little 7 month old red female that she had gotten from a CA breeder several months earlier. She wanted to add her to her breeding program but decided her nose was not square enough even though everything else was coming along nicely... one little quirk, however... and her name says it all: SPINNER! ...she runs in circles!I hesitated...Plumm chased his tail for a few weeks after he spent a week in a lovely kennel while I was in Spain... He eventually relaxed and stopped. I thought perhaps he'd done it because of the confinement/boredom, although he had his own indoor/outdoor run and lots of company around him. With that thought in mind I decided Spinn would be a good match and we'd accept the challenge.
Fortunately the breeder was coming to a Lakeland specialty show nearby in a few weeks and would bring Spinner with her. It was love at first sight!!! As I walked across the show grounds I spotted a lady with a petite, twig-like red Lakie in tow... I stopped to ask her if this was Spinner and introduced myself. What a cutie!!! Her main photo on this page was taken a few days after we got her. What a character!!! Cute as a button! Plumm had a lovely bearded face (his main Dogster photo was taken days BEFORE she arrived) and it was only a matter of days before Spinn had thinned it out considerably ! Plumm was SO patient- he enjoyed the attention and was still able to run around, bark and play with her - "tug" is her favorite! Spinning as an obsessive behavior was never an issue thankfully! She just runs in circles when she's excited the same way Plumm used to race back & forth in his younger days. They have become best buddies even though they don't play the way they used to before Plumm developed weakness in his hind legs. As fate would have it: enter Miss Daisy!! The two divas - what a pair!
