Leave a bone for Maverick

Nicknames: Mavs, MaverCadaver, Mavers, Ray-Ray, squnchybutt,

Quick Bio:
Likes: cuddles, squirrels, waiting until people get RIGHT up on his fence and then barking at them,

Pet-Peeves: squirrels staying just out of reach, loud noises of any kind,

Favorite Toy: floppy disc and tug toys

Favorite Food: EVERYTHING! He swallows before he tastes it so one can never tell

Favorite Walk: paseos near the park

Best Tricks: he line dances (does a little routine), sings, chases his tail (circles both directions), shakes paws, waves (either paw on command), takes a bow, and lets Tyler jump over him and then run under him. He does several other tricks but these are his best one

Arrival Story: I had been looking for a demo dog (I'm a full time trainer) and had had one die on me. I went to all the shelters in the area but just wasn't finding anything. I walked in Petsmart to get food for Tyler and he was sitting in an adoption pen with dogs from the east valley shelter (I had been there earlier but there were so many dogs..I might have seen him but passed by). I thought he was cute but then I saw this kid talking to his parents about adopting him and I didn't like the look of this family. They reminded me of the neighbors I had when I was a kid who used to abuse and neglect their dog. So I walked up and adopted him.

Bio: Maverick worked as a full time demo dog for about 3.5 years for me. He was my service dog in training but had to be retired due to his semi-reactive nature as well as his fear of loud noises. He is a DEFINITE clown and delights in coming up with new ways to do things. Classic example of how he is....I was teaching a group obedience class one night and he was acting as my demo. I had his "place mat" set up in the corner and was demonstrating what "go to your place" was supposed to look like. Maverick ran right over to it, picked up the mat in his mouth, moved it about 10 feet closer to another dog where HE wanted to be, put it down and laid down perfectly on his place!
Mavs has tried agility (he didn't like the teeter totter), sheepherding (he did this for about 5 months) and some fun schutzhund work...we worked his obedience and tracking and he had a blast. He now lives with my grandmother until one day when I will have more room for him to come back and be my main dog again. He's definitely my best bud
