So proud of my daddy & mommy

The other night... daddy was patrolling our county helping keep it safe with his K9 partner when a call was dispatched to a house from an anonymous caller. The caller said that dogs were not being taken care of. My daddy got there & saw appauling conditions. There were 7 dogs on chains, 3 dead and of that alive was 1 adult pitbull & the rest puppies. The pups looked to be about 6wks old. One pup could reach another pup that had died & was so hungry was eating it:( Daddy couldn't believe his eyes... he was so mad and upset at the same time. He said of all calls he had been to that this was by far the worst. Daddy knew the dogs needed to be removed immediately. He contacted animal control & they told him that they only take strays & they don't pick up abused animals. Daddy being a cop has authority to press charges against the owner, for which he did 7 charges to be exact but daddy doesn't have authority to remove the dogs. Daddy ended up removing the dogs anyway and took them to a shelter. He took the pups, but didn't have the room for the adult pitbull so the animal shelter went back that next day to get the adult pitbull. I sure hope daddy doesn't get into trouble for doing the right thing, and I am sure really proud of my daddy!!!
Mommy immediately went into a frantic that next morning of this happening and called ASPCA. ASPCA told her to call the local law enforcement and she informed them that my daddy is the local law enforcement LOL! Anyway, ASPCA ended up opening up a case on this issue and is going to get back with mommy in a few days and boy she sure can't wait to talk to them! Come to find out, the pups were put down because the shelter said they were too far gone. The adult pitbull is still at the shelter (http://prcspca.org) but is on hold by the Sheriff dept until they can figure out what they are going to do. The lady at the shelter said either the dog will get released if the owner says she will care for the dog or either it will get released to the shelter & they will put it down. Mom asked why & the lady at the shelter informed her that ALL pitbulls are put down there, even if they resemble a pitbull!!! The lady said that our breed is too much of a liability. Mommy was furious of course and I thought she was about to go through the phone on hearing that LOL! BUT this will surely add on to what all she is going to tell the ASPCA when they call her:) go mommy!!!!

Sooo today is the day we celebrate as my birthday! I have come such a long way since a year ago this day. I was rescued off the road, taken into a home I knew nothing about. I took a chance on them and they took a chance on me and I am grateful for that. Got rid of my heartworms, had ligament surgery and I have mild hip dysplasia, but I am doing very good with it. I am so healthy and happy now! I hope more people give our breed a chance! I am glad I got my chance:) Many hugs and kisses to my mommy and daddy!

PS - I know I am going to get some delicious treats today! yummmmy!

I would like to give a special thanks to all of my dogster friends for their encouragement while I was on my road to recovery. We couldn't have gotten through it without you guys! And also a very special thanks to Yugi for help with the outrageous vet bills at our time in need. Thank you Yugi for loving this pittie!

Dog of the Day!!!!!/also update on treatment

I have so many emotions right now! Excited, overjoyed, overwhelmed, and definitely honored!!!! I have had a rough time since being on the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. I went from having no home or love to being found and now being taken care of and loved with every passing second and I also have my Dogster pup pals that have given me so much encouragement! With all of this in mind, I continue my fight to be completely well. I have conquered malnourishment, ear infections, ACL tear resulting in surgery, hip dysplasia and now doing my heartworm treatment. I want to give a big warm "thank you" to Dogster, my dogster pals and my mom and dad for giving me a chance.

Lots of love always,

Your boy Chevy

PS - I would also like to update everyone on my heartworm treatment. I received my second round the other day and at first I didn't think it was going to be bad at all, but today I am having watery diarrhea and some green stuff. I am feeling like crud. Mom says she is fixing to fix me some chicken and rice to help my diarrhea and settle my stomach. To be Dog of the Day has really shed a light on today for me during this time! I love you guys!!!!

ACL surgery, Hip dysplasia & now Heartworm Tx

Well, my boy has recovered over his ACL surgery finally! I started him on some vitamin stuff for his hip dysplasia & he has been on all fours walking, running & playing for about 2 to 3 weeks now. But now all the playing, walking, and running stops for the next 3 months :( He is undergoing heartworm treatment and has to be confined. Yesterday he went in & had phase I of the treatment & my husband picked him up this morning. We made him as cozy as we could in his pen. We have to keep an eye on him for vomiting, severe weakness or listlessness, swelling of the abdomen, loss of appetite, black or red colored stool and temp above 103. He is restricted on activity & has to be confined during this treatment & cannot get overexcited. His next appt for phase II of the treatment is Dec 17th. So for these 3 months I will definitely be sitting on pins & needles just hoping & praying that he makes it through this & is well. It has been one thing after another with him, but I knew that was expected because of the shape we found him in. We have had to make cut backs on things just to be able to afford all of this, but he is so worth it. We love him so much! Please keep him in your thoughts & prayers as he goes through this tough process of heartworm treatment.

I have been tagged, what fun!!! Tyson tagged me!

Because it’s Thanksgiving time, there is a change to the rules. Each player needs to tell seven special things they are thankful for. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 things. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

1. I am thankful my mommy found me when she did.
2. I am thankful for my new mommy & daddy.
3. I am thankful to be loved & taken care of.
4. I am thankful for all my pals here on Dogster.
5. I am thankful for play time when I get to toss my rope around and be silly!

Poem for a miraculous rescued pitbull named Rosie

About a week ago I was on here browing at all of the beautiful pitties and I come across a female pitbull named Rosie. Her story was horrific and she was nothing short of a miracle to be alive! Her owners had moved and left her behind. I was so moved by her story that is inspired me to write a poem. I have looked for Rosie here on dogster & I can't find her:( Here is my poem for Rosie:

LEFT BEHIND & FORGOTTEN
Boxes are being packed, think we are going somewhere.
Nobody is saying anything, I watch with a blank stare.
Left me on the enclosed porch not saying a word.
Tires squealing as they left is all that I heard.
Surely they will come back for me.
I lay down and wait patiently.
A week has gone by now, and I am getting upset.
They haven't come back for me now, not yet.
I am thirsty and hungry and they should know.
My God in heaven why won't they show!
Two weeks now, think I have been forgotten.
My tummy is growling and mouth feels like cotton.
Weeks have gone by now, wonder what I did wrong.
I don't understand why they didn't take me along.
So weak, tired and hungry that I can't even stand.
Wonder if anyone will come along and lend me a hand.
I lay here wondering will I make it to another day,
and if not how many more hours do I have to lay.
I lay here dying now and wondering why.
Nobody knows I am here, and all I do is lay and cry.
What is left of my voice comes cries of moans.
All that is left of me are skin and bones.
Someone must have heard my lonesome cries.
I look up and see someone much to my surprise.
The person looked blurry because I was fading fast.
But I was rushed to the vet where I was saved atlast.

Halloween Tag!

I was tagged by my bestest pal Tyson!

Here are the rules:
Each player needs to tell seven random facts about themselves. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 facts. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play

1. I love my new forever home.

2. My favorite toy is a big rope that I swing side to side and up in the air.

3. I act so silly around mom and dad because I enjoy making them laugh. I run full speed at them and right before I get to them I hit the ground and roll. Mom always freaks out that I have hurt myself and sometimes I have but didn't admit to it.

4. I enjoy my walks in the yard.

5. Going riding is always fun.

6. I really likes those marrow bone treats, ohhh yummy!

7. I love to give kisses and love being hugged.

The seven pups that I choose are CJ, Zeus, Darla, Max, Sienna, Buddy Lee, and Belle.

Happy Halloween Pups and have a pawesome time with HOWLOWEEN TAG!

Update post-surgery

Well.... I was told this morning that the reason he is favoring his right back leg is from overcompensating for the left leg being hurt. Vet said his back right leg is probably sore. Also says I can start him on vitamins for hip dysplasia now even with him taking antibiotics and pain med so I am going to do that also. Vet says to give him a little while & that things should be better for him. I sure hope so!
