Mom and Dad adopted me last summer on July 14th. I had never been through a July 4th celebration with them until this year. They did not know how I would react and I, of course, did not know what the heck they were talking about. Then all of these loud noises started happening on the night of July 3rd, the night when our city puts on a huge fireworks display at the Lakefront. At first I was just a bit startled, but as the bang-bang-bang! and pop-pop-pop! continued, I crawled off Mom and Dad's bed and snuck down in a corner as far away from the windows as I could get. Then I started to shake. All my Alpha went straight out the window.
The next night it was more of the same. Mom went into the bathroom to get ready for bed. The explosions were smaller, but closer to home and lasted quite a while. Mom suddenly heard scratching on the outside of the bathroom door and when she opened it, two schnauzers ran into the bathroom. She just let us sit there while she got ready for bed. When she was done, she opened the door and went into her bedroom. Lexie trotted after her, but I sat there on the tile in the dark. After a few minutes, I realized it was better to be scared near Mom and Dad than to be scared alone in the bathroom, so I crawled back to my corner in the bedroom. Mom eventually got me and put me up on the bed where I usually sleep and I drifted off after my shaking finally subsided. There are some pops tonight, but nothing like the previous two nights.
I do not like fireworks.
