Arrival Story:
Razzy's story goes back a few years.... 1998 was a tough year for us, we had many senior dogs in our pack ... and lost 3 between December 1997 and March 1998 -- all to a combination of "old age" and cancer. After the loss of Lady (a 14 year old border collie/husky mix), we couldn't stand the house being so quiet, with only 3 small dogs remaining.... so my husband told me to go to the local kill shelter and pick out a small, quiet, somewhat disabled male dog, that didn't have much chance of surviving there. I wasn't comfortable picking a dog that was going to become his best friend too, so he finally agreed to come along. As we drove in to the shelter, there was a man with a puppy going into the shelter. After we parked the car, and were walking up the sidewalk, the man came out -- without the puppy. My husband asked "Did you just drop off that pup?". The man said "Yeah, and they are going to kill him, too. They are out of room." My husband said "And.... you LEFT him?????" --- and literally ran into the shelter, calling after the officier...."Wait.... stop with that puppy!" I stayed behind to find out why the dumb guy was leaving the pup to be euthanized .... "because he tore up my house". Well - duh! A 4-month old puppy will do that if you're not smarter than he is! Needless to say, that puppy was Razzy. He was none of the things my hubby specified, other than "male" -- but that didn't matter. We couldn't stand to see his young life snuffed out -- and he was a very pretty pup! So, even though we knew he was going to be bigger than any dog we've ever had, we figured we'd adjust! He's a wonderful boy, now a senior, but will never quite qualify as an "old man"! He's youthful even at 10 years old and 80 pounds, and has a wonderful sense of humor! He's very gentle and sweet, and is far from being an alpha dog... he's quite happy not being pack leader, and is extremely vocal when the little dogs (like Bozers & Nyssa) steal his toys! He also yells at me when I've been traveling -- he prefers that I stay home and play with him!
