Stealing her Mommy's spot on the pillow ;o), fetching her favorite toys, catching snacks in mid-air, receiving applause :o), blocking the TV while we try to watch, and blocking the fan in the hottest months of the year ;o).
Being alone :o(, getting bathed, being groomed, when no one gives her table food :o(, visits to the vet, and car rides. :o(
Sydney has two favorites; one is a stuffed chicken given to her by a special family :o) and the other is a pink stuffed pig that was given to her by the vet's office when she pulled through her awful illness last year.
Sydney's on a pretty restricted diet because of her past illness, but she does enjoy human food (like popsicles) every once in a while. ;o)
Around the neighborhood - actually she loves the outdoors so anywhere outside. ;o)
Stretching on command :o), catching treats in mid air, and sulking on command.
Sydney came into our lives on November 30, 1997. I was extremely depressed because it was my late father's birthday and my husband thought it would cheer me up if he took me to see the puppies at the local pet store. We got there and looked around, played with a few dogs, and then were about to go home when in came a worker with a little cage. In it was the cutest, tiniest puppy I had ever seen. I'd always loved Shelties and was in the market to get one, but when I saw Sydney, I knew she had to come home with us. We took her home that day and she's been a big part of our lives and our hearts ever since. :o)
Instead of deleting this page, I've decided to leave all this information "as is" in case anyone visiting wants to know what an amazing dog Sydney was. Sadly, this past August (2007), Sydney lost her long, long battle with liver disease. Throughout her entire illness, she has been such an inspiration to us with her strong will and her great attitude. She certainly loved life and lived every moment of it to the fullest. We love and miss her dearly, and the ten years that we spent with her were ten of the best years of our life.
In October of 2003, Sydney got very ill. She stopped eating, and basically shut down - her personality changed completely from the fun-loving and demanding dog she was to just a shell of her former self. :o( We took her for an ultrasound and they found spots on her liver and all the specialists that we saw thought that she wouldn't make it. As she got sicker, she got so weak that she wasn't even able to walk without stumbling and falling down. :o( We had to syringe feed her every two hours and give her medication every forth feeding. Her eyes and ears turned yellow and the vet told us that was a sure sign of liver failure. Through it all, we never gave up hope that the vets and specialists were wrong... For a month and a half she just kept getting thinner and thinner and the vets talked about hospitalization, etc. Luckily for us, her stubborn nature proved everyone wrong. One day (about two months later) her fever broke and surprisingly she started eating again. A year later she's as healthy as she's ever been and still as lovable and demanding as ever. ;o) Amazing what love can do! :o)
