My lifeguard duties are getting cut

I am lifeguard at our pool. The grandkids come over to swim and I watch them in the pool at all times. If they are swimming I run back and forth along the side of the pool so that I can watch them. When they bring friends with them I really do a lot of running. On Tuesday they came over with a bunch of friends and I ran back and forth the whole time they were there. That night I was tired and rested like I normally do.

The next day I could barely walk. I would not let mom look at my right paw, which I kept licking. I also had no interest in eating or even taking water. Mom took me to the vet and the vet gave me pain pills and an anti-inflammatory pill to take. She felt my leg and paw and did not think I had anything broken and had not hurt the pads on my paw, so she wanted to try this first. If it did not work I would have to be sedated to have x-rays taken.

I am doing better. I was walking better on Thursday and today is even better.

Mom says I am not to go out anymore and watch the kids. She said I am overdoing it and I can only go out if the grandkids are there but not when they have friends because I work too hard then. I wonder if this means I will be getting a cut in pay now!

Two friends went to The Rainbow Bridge

In the last two days, two friends have become angels and traveled to The Rainbow Bridge. Looie Weaver and Abby, who we have been praying for, have both crossed over The Bridge. Even though we have never met them or their families in person, we share their tears at this sad time.

Death leaves heartache no one can heal...
Love leaves memories no one can steal...

Found Something!

Yesterday mom let me and Bonnie (she is staying with us while her mom is in Las Vegas) out after breakfast. When she called us in, I did not come running like I usually do. Actually I am usually waiting by the door to come back in.

I was sitting in the grass and she could tell by the look on my face that I was guarding something! She thought I had more baby bunnies but when she got there she saw I had a dead mouse! She picked it up with the pooper scooper and I wanted to keep it!

I think if I am the one to find these treasures, I should decide if we keep them or not!

Heat Wave and Drought

Except for today (we had cooler temperatures today but it is going back up tomorrow) it has been VERY hot and dry here.

When the kids come over to go swimming I watch them very carefully and run back and forth along the pool edge when they are in the pool with their friends. I jump in and swim when I get too hot and then I go right back to running back and forth.

Yesterday mom told dad that if the kids come over to not let me out with them because she was worried that I would get overheated and also about my paws on the hot concrete. That was terrible! I had to run back and forth in the dining room while they were swimming so that I could see them.

I hope they never do that again! I need to be outside with the kids!

Enjoying the pool

The parents gave up on trying to keep me clean and out of the pool! I was groomed and they wanted me to stay nice, so they were not letting me go swimming. It is in the 90's so they realized that dogs must swim. Now if the kids would only come back from their trip to Michigan, I would have more fun in the pool. I sit and watch the back door for them all day but so far no kids to swim with me. I really miss them. Mom and dad are not as much fun!

Adopt Stroll and Contest 2012

It is here!

It’s our honor to announce the SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY of the Annual Adopt Stroll and Contest! Originally created in 2006 by Lucia, we are committed to bringing it back each year!! A Special Bark Out to Gibbon, who headed the contest and took on the major share of the workload previously and is helping us get started this year. Arrroooooo!!

So what is this contest about and what do you do? Details are below!

What is the mission of the contest? :?
This is a contest created by Dogster members. It provides an opportunity allowing Dogster members to share their life experience as to how an adopted pup has brought joy, love and fulfillment to one’s life. The mission is simple -- to inspire, motivate and encourage others to consider adoption when adding a member to their family. So many beautiful pups wait in cages and foster homes throughout the world. If this contest can change just one person’s mind to adopt, we have accomplished our goal! Each year we receive many beautiful stories of love and devotion, stories from those who have brought a dog in need into their family and have found much love, some challenges and so many rewards.

Who is eligible to enter, what do you need to do? :?
All Dogsters are welcome!! Pups who have been adopted, awaiting adoption, transport pets or volunteer or who just support adoption! That’s pretty much every pup! BOL! You do not have to be adopted to be eligible.

Your entry MUST include a tagged picture and a diary entry or bio on your page. The entry/bio can be a story, a poem, an essay so long as it's on your page! Feel free to be creative BUT it must reflect adoption – and what it means to you.

How many winners and what are the categories?

There will be a total of ELEVEN WINNERS this year!!!

There are four categories with several places in the main category (Grand Prize, 2nd, 3rd and Five Honorable Mentions) for the MAIN ADOPTION CATEGORY, ONE WINNER for the RAINBOW ANGEL CATEGORY (added in 2008), and ONE WINNER for the SASSY’S SENIOR CATEGORY created especially for Sassy, a beloved Dogster member who went to the Rainbow Bridge this year, a contest judge and strong supporter of the Dogster community and the contest (added in 2010). Pups who are 8 years or older are eligible to enter into this category and we suggest your diary entry be more specific to adoption and senior living, and a category added just last year, SPECIAL NEEDS!!!! To be eligible to enter for Special Needs, you must have a physical disability and/or have a chronic or terminal illness. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact one of the judges to assist you. We suggest your diary entry be more specific to adoption and special needs!

What's the Deadline? :?
Pictures must be entered before Sunday, July 8th @ 9 pm Dogster time (PST) ~~ that gives you plenty of time to decide on your entry and ask us any questions!

Can you enter more than one picture? :?
Only ONE picture per pup. If you have siblings or fosters, each dog can have one individual photo entered with their own entry/bio. Entering more than one photo for one pup may result in disqualification!

What type of picture? :?
Photos should capture 'the good life'. Whether it's lounging on a comfy couch, playing fetch with your human or wrestling with your siblings - any picture that shows the positive impact of being in a great home! Natural pictures are preferred but you can enter a picture that is animated, edited or anything else to celebrate adoption and rescue. No special consideration is given for edited pictures.

What's the tag for the stroll? :?
For the Main Adoption category, tag your pic ~~ mainadopt12stroll
For the Rainbow Angel Category, tag your pic ~~ Angeladopt12stroll
For the Sassy Senior Category, tag your pic ~~ SSadopt12stroll
For the Special Needs Category, tag your pic ~~ SpNadopt12stroll

Not sure how to tag a pic? Then pmail Georgie for instructions.

Make sure you check out the STROLLS during the contest!
Main Adopt ‘12, Rainbow Angel Adopt ‘12, Sassy Senior Adopt ‘12, Special Needs Adopt ‘12

What about the diary entry/bio? :?
For your diary entry, you must title the entry ADOPT 2012 CONTEST so we know which diary to review. We strongly recommend that if you want to use a previous diary entry, please copy it as one of your more recent entries so it will be easier to locate. If it is in your bio, please be sure you also place the same title at the place of the bio you want us to consider. It can never be too short or too long so long as it is about adoption and what it has meant to you.

We cannot consider an entry that is not appropriately titled. If you have FALLING OBJECTS on your page, please note that some of us judges might have trouble opening your page to read your entry, we will try to notify you but understand that there will be several entries to review. To make it easier, please consider removing the falling objects during the two week judging period.

Not sure how to make a diary entry? Then click HERE to find out how!

Who are the judges? :?
We have a wonderful circle of judges! Thank you to Alice (3rd Prize Adopt 10 Winner), Ama Bahama (2nd Prize Adopt 11 Winner), Amy (Grand Prize Adopt 10 Winner), Sir Austin, Bailey, Dusty the Puppycat , Flicka (Honorable Mention 2012 winner), Georgie, Georgie Girl, Gibbon, Kiki (Grand Prize Winner 2012), Raven “Tiki” Mystique (2nd Prize Adopt 10 Winner), Riley, River, Rudy Patudy, Shiloh, The Fabulous Conway Sisters, Mrs. Trudy

OUR 2012 PRIZE LIST!!!

We thank all the individual pups and businesses who have reached into their pockets and hearts. We encourage you to click on their links below and visit their sites! Special shout out to Dogster for being a HUGE supporter and donator of our contest. We would all not be here as a community to celebrate us pups if it were not for Dogster!

All entries for all three strolls are eligible to win any of the MAIN category slots (Grand, 2nd, 3rd and five HMs). The Rainbow Angel and Sassy’s Senior categories are reserved for entries who tag the applicable strolls.

I am back home

Mom and Dad came back from their vacation on Saturday. I stayed with my furless sister Tracy and her dog Bonnie while they were gone. Tracy also took me in to get groomed while they were gone. She wanted me to look good when mom and dad came home so she would not take me out to my house to go swimming. Now mom and dad are back and they think I look so good, they have been keeping me out of the pool. I think tomorrow I will find something really yucky to roll in outside and then they won't care anymore and let me go swimming! They also brought home Minnie Mouse ears for me and Bonnie and of course, we had to pose in them. A dog's work is never done!

Not a good day for me

Today should have been a good day but Mom ruined it by giving me a shower. Now I hear she wants to brush me and then put my flea medicine on me! I am trying to hide but I think she knows where I am! Shhhhh!

My 5 year Dogster Anniversary

Tomorrow it will be my 5 year Anniversary of joining Dogster. When I started, I was just over 1 year old. I have spent all my other birthdays here with my friends on Dogster.

Mom heard about Dogster when she read an article about spoiled dogs. It said that some dogs even have their own web page. She decided then that I needed one too. It was easy to set up and once we were on Dogster we learned all kinds of things about how to decorate my page, groups to join, how to make pictures and good advice on taking care of a dog. We loved the friendship and support that we found here.

We met friends here that we have even gone to visit in another state and look forward to that every year.

I am so happy that I have had five years of fun on Dogster and thank you to all my Dogster and Catster friends.

Bunny Nest

I heard Dad tell Mom I kind of got in trouble today.

First of all the kids came over to swim and I was the lifeguard as I always am. I watch them real good when they are in the pool and run up and down the side of the pool so I can watch them. I really don't like when they separate in the pool. I want them to stay together. When I get hot I jump in and swim with them.

Later I found a hole in the ground with baby bunnies in it. I was taking out all the bunnies from the hole so I could see them better. I had them all out on the lawn and the kids told on me. Apparently the baby bunnies did not do too well when I took them out! I just wanted to play with them. I don't know why that was so wrong!
