YAY!!! We went to Bay City to take the CGC (we almost opted out due to bad roads...) and I passed the test! The tester guy said I was a very friendly dog, and I wagged my stub tail like a maniac the whole time!!! Mom said she was very proud of my stay... And I got to be the "friendly dog & strange approaching" a few times. Anyway, I passed and now I get to go to work with Mom... I'll get to wear my CGC patch on my bandana and everything! :)

IT'S NOT A TUMOR!!!

just like arnold swartzeneger said... it's not a tumor! the vet called mom today and told her that there's no need to worry about me. the lab reported that the bump the vet took off wasn't cancer, it was a fatty growth and nothing to worry about. she was so happy - she gave me hugs and we danced around in the living room, celebrating. even though it was cold out (about 10 degrees), we played frisbee in the snow to celebrate until we both got cold :)

Trip to the Vet's office...

well, here's an update as to what mom and i have been doing lately...

around thanksgiving, mom and i were rough housing and she found a little bump about the size of a pea on my side behind my elbow... not a big deal, but she said she'd keep an eye on it. just before christmas, she noticed that it was getting bigger, and i just couldn't keep myself from licking it and trying to chew it off... so she made an appointment at doctor pol's office. he said that because it's bothering me, it should come off. he said it was a mast cell tumor. so, ... mom took me in last tuesday morning to have surgery and told the vet to send the lump to the lab to find out what else we should do. i feel ok, but i have a hard time not licking my stitches. mom put one of her boyfriend's t-shirts on me to keep me from licking :)

i'll let you know what we find out about my lump... :)

Mom made me a costume for Halloween. I wanted to dress up as Santa - I carried around my Santa hat for a while, but my costume turned out cool! I was Under Dog! Mom made me a red t-shirt with a white U on it with a blue cape. We went trick - or - treating over at doggie Grandma's house and doggie Great-Grandma was there, too. They gave me a treat and pinched my cheeks :) I'll post a pic soon...

It's getting COLD again!

It's been a busy summer! Lots of hiking and rollerblading. It was a good summer for hanging your face out the window of a car, letting your lips blow in the breeze...
I think I vaguely remember last fall - running zoomies through mom's leaf piles... I still do it, but now I can totally blow her piles all over the yard! Mom's on the search for a new coat - for me! I've totally out grown last winter's coat... You see, I have that kind of low-maintenance fur that's great for swimming and summertime, but not so helpful when the Michigan weather turns cold. I guess it's hard to find a coat in my size in the pet stores. They're all the tiny dog size, not my size. I'll post a pic when she finds one...

My guardian angel-dog...

mom was sad this morning... i think it was about a dream she had... i always have dreams about playing frisbee and i wake up so happy and frisky! i put my head on her arm and she kissed me on the forehead. i took that as an invitation, so i crawled up in the bed. she gave me hugs. something was wrong that made her eyes water, so licked the water off her face.

when i was little, i used to nap on mom's lap and she would tell me stories - about all the fun things we'll do and see together, and about my furGrandpa, Jake. Jake was her family dog when she was a kid and he was such a good dog. he was a heinz 57 dog like me... a little mixture of alot of stuff, but good to the last drop. he was born on an amish farm and came to live with them when he was just a pup. she thinks he was a rat terrier/skipperke mix, maybe... he was marked like a doberman, but because of the skipperke in him, people they met said he looked like a chubby chihuahua. she told me about all the places he'd went with them - he rode in a motorhome, panting out the window, all the way to the grand canyon and to yellowstone, he rode on tractors on the farm and a motorcycle with mom's parents. he always came when you called, and always had a sweet doggie kiss for mom when she came home. even when he couldn't see anymore, he knew it was her because he knew her smell. last spring, Jake turned 15 years old, and was getting sick. she said that she knew he was tired and hurting - he would come to her and rest his head in her hands, like he was asking for help. the vet told them he had a very agressive cancer, and treatment would be very hard on the old guy. mom and her family (Justin, my doggie-uncle, and doggie-Grandma and -Grandpa Sunday) decided that the most kind thing they could do, after all of Jake's kindness to them, was to let Jake go home. mom said she was so sad, but she felt mean making him endure the pain from the cancer. she said it was so, so hard to let him go, but his dog suit was all worn out... she says that they laid him to rest in his favorite sunny spot in the yard and put a little cement puppy wearing Jake's collar on top of his grave, looking out toward the hay fields, waiting for a tractor ride...

mom named me Jax after him. mom says that Jake is my guardian angel-dog and he's with us when we go for walks and rides in the car and have adventures... i'm glad mom picked me to help her with letting Jake go home. i'm excited to learn new thing and have fun adventures like Jake had. maybe someday i'll even ride all the way to the grand canyon in a motorhome...

What a rainy day...

We had to stay inside today because of the thunder storms. Mom is a worrywort. And she doesn't like doggie baths in the tub (we go to the doggie wash in town). So we worked on our down-stay and "where's the walrus?" and I had a doggie pedicure. I had cut my paw on something this spring, and mom checked it out - it's healing great. I had to wear a boot for a while to keep the mud out of the cut, but it's all better now. I licked it and licked it at night ( I kept mom up) trying to make it better, but I just made my tongue tired. Mom knew how to fix me.

Anyway, we went to the pond to swim the other day... There were some Amish boys fishing, so we went to the far side of the pond. I saw some fish (The boys were fishing the wrong spot!) and tried to snorkel for them. I got water in my ears... Note to self: bring ear plugs next time...

What a day!!

Well, we went to the vet this morning... I tried hard to be a good boy, but I was so distracted by all the funny smells. It seems like I remember being here before... I got my microchip today - I'm officially on the grid! Mom said that she doesn't want me to ever end up in a shelter ever again. It didn't hurt 'cuz the vet was nice and numbed the spot on my neck where the chip would go in. I got lots of treats and pets from all the nice ladies and a new tag to go on my collar. I thought that we'd go to the pond today to swim, but mom said that she didn't want me getting infected, so we played fetch in the sprinkler instead. It's a good day.

Went swimming!

We went over to Herrick Park the other day to swim and play frisbee. We had a lot of fun! I'm learning to swim better now. When I was a pup, I didn't like water at all. Anyway, we had a lot of fun... But when we got home, mom noticed my collar was gone. We think it came off while we were playing in the water. I guess we'll go back and snorkel for it!

Tomorrow we go to the vet to get my microchip and to update my rabies vax. :P
