My name is Desiree. I am a thirteen-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. I was adopted by my moms almost four years ago. I was never one of those pups waiting in a kennel hoping for a forever home. I had a nice life for the first six years of my life, until my person got sick and couldn’t take care of me and my brother any more. I was fostered by a nice couple after that for two years, and then my life journey led me to my third and furever home. I’m not the only pup at my house that’s on her third home. I have two sisters, one adopted before me, one adopted after me, and all three of us had two different homes before finally coming together. We have two brothers, too, but our home is the first home for each of them. They were both sick when they were adopted as puppies. The five of us make a great family. My moms have opened their hearts and their doors for twenty-five years, taking in dogs and cats that other people didn’t want. They say that their lives have been full because so many misfit animals have filled their hearts. They say that if they didn’t have all of us to love that it would be like there is no air to breathe. They are always willing to give a dog or cat a new chance at life, even when those animals are sick or scared, or even kind of crazy. When I came to live with my forever moms, they made me feel so special and wanted. They took turns holding me and rocking me and singing “She’s so Pretty” to me. They dressed me in jammies when I got cold and they let me snuggle with them at night. They think I look like a curly lamb, so they nicknamed me “Lammy Lamb.” I am a JRT, so I have a lot of energy, but my moms never yell at me for barking and playing. My one mommy tells me all the time how much she loves me, and wishes that I had come to live with them many years ago, so we could have been together that much longer. My life is so different since I’ve been adopted. I feel pretty, and loved, and special. I wish every dog in the world could feel so loved.
