Bad Dog in School

Mommy is making me write this today. I was a very bad boy in class. I rushed a bull terrier and almost got hurt. She is very disappointed in me and said I can't take my CGC test next month. In fact, since I am consistently the worst dog in each class I take, she really doesn't want to take me back to school for any more courses. She says she loves me, but I make her very tired.

At the Vet's

I went to the vet on Monday, and it was GREAT! I love the vet's office. I remembered everyone there, and I was sure that they all wanted to pet me if I could only get closer to them. Mommy didn't agree, and she kept making me sit down. I didn't keep quiet, though. I barked and howled the whole time.

While I was there, I met my cousin. He was only 4 months old, but I growled and barked at him like he was a squirrel. He growled too. I could tell we would be great friends if only we could get closer. Once again, Mommy didn't agree.

You should have heard me when they clipped my nails. I didn't just whimper, I screamed bloody murder. You would have thought they were pulling my teeth the way I screamed. Was I hurt? No. I just don't care to have my paws held like that.

I can't wait to go back next month and get my rabies shot!

Another Day at Dog School

Today was a good day in Obedience School. Was that because I was a good dog for a change? No, it was because Mommy lowered her expectations!

We had a new teacher, and I liked her a WHOLE LOT! She pet me and gave me a biscuit, so I know she liked me too. Whenever she would talk to the other dogs, I would howl and bark so that she would pay attention to me. I sure know how to work a room!

My Brother

In my family, my brother is the rich, successful offspring, and I am the Billy Carter offspring. He got another promotion at work this week and is rather a big wig now.

However...One day, he was getting ready for work and was filling his new travel mug for the trip to the office. He poured in the coffee and pushed the lid on. He then went to take a drink and spilled coffee all over his clothes. Drat! So he went upstairs and changed.

Once again, he filled the cup with coffee and pushed on the lid. This time he pushed really hard, then went to take a sip...and got coffee all over his clothes.

Again he went upstairs to change, worried because he was running out of suits. So, he again poured the coffee. This time he pushed the lid on really, really, REALLY hard, then took a sip. Again, coffee all over his clothes.

Trying to figure out what was wrong with this blasted cup, he looked at it to find...it was a screw top.

Ha! Ha! Ha! What does this have to do with my dog? Nothing. I just wanted to embarass my brother. (Remember, he's the smart one.)

I've Been Tagged!

Charlie tagged me! So, now I have to write seven random facts about myself in my diary, then I tag seven dogs to do the same. Whee! This should be fun.

1. When I was a puppy, I was afraid on the "monsters" under my bed.
2. When I sleep, I carry on both sides of a conversation. (GRRR!
Whimper....whimper GRRR! Whimper.)
3. I know my right from my left.
4. I won't come in the house at night until I find that star that bothers me and
bark at it.
5. When I want someone's attention, I raise my hand.
6. My favorite color is red.
7. After I get groomed, I won't stop fluffing my fur until someone tells me I am
handsome.

Now, I tag: Canuck, Sophie, Eddie, Annabelle Lea, Raggie, Brillo and Maya. Have fun!

First Rally Class

We went to our first Rally class on Wednesday and...Geordie wasn't the worst dog in the class!! This is a real first. Normally he barks his head off and rushes at the dogs around us. On Wednesday, he was well-mannered and did everything I asked him to. (It was Mommy who kept screwing up when we walked the course!)

The only potential problem that I see is that there is a dog in our class named Bunny. Geordie totally freaks out when he hears the word Bunny. Maybe we'll get lucky and the owner will never call his dog by name.

Poor Geordie

Poor Geordie had a bad day at school this week. There is a Chesapeak Bay Retriever in the class, and Geordie is afraid of him. First this dog, then the two angry spaniels growled at him. I could see that he was upset. Even more so when I had to put him in a kennel right next to the big dog. When I tried to put him in the kennel, he grabbed hold of me with all four paws. I could feel his claws digging into me like a cat will if you hold it over water. He cowered the whole three minutes he was in the kennel, and when I took him out, he wouldn't let me put him down.
After I got him calmed down somewhat, we went off to a corner to practice tricks while we waited our turn to walk the course. I went through the usual, Sit, Down, Roll Over....then I decided to ask him some "yes" "no" questions so we could practice that. I asked him several things, and when I came to "Do you want a hug?" , he nodded a big YES! I was so surprised since Geordie isn't a snuggly pup. He must have really been shaken by those growly dogs.

Geordie Meets A Snake

So, while going for a walk, Geordie and I saw a snake on the road. (It was maybe 14" long.) My boy bravely hid behind my legs and peeked around them to look at the snake. I guess the only thing he'll protect me from is a bunny.

To continue the Carter analogy, he'll be the "alert Secret Service Agent" to my "President Carter".

Up!

The other day, I sat down at my sewing table to do some work. Geordie seemed restless, and in a few minutes, started "talking", growling and barking at me. I figured he wanted to play, or needed to go out, so I put down my work and asked him what he wanted. He kept walking backwards, and getting more and more frustrated with his "Arf"s. Finally, I asked him, "Do you want me to pick you up so you can see what I am doing?" He calmly got up, walked over to my table and stood there with his shoulders braced like he does when I lift him. I couldn't believe that what he wanted was to see what I do! After I showed him my tools and told him their names, he laid down and let me work.

It reminded me of how earlier this year, I was knitting a sweater for my Mom. When he saw me knitting, he kept reaching up with his paws for my work. He pestered me until I got down on the floor with him and showed him how I moved the yarn from one needle to the other. It wasn't enough to know that I did it, he wanted to see how.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever met a human male who was so interested in my work.

The "Uppies" Argument

As a prelude to this story, I have to mention that I've taught Geordie to nod his head when he means "yes" when someone asks him a question. (Ex. Do you want to go outside? Do you want to do tricks? Do you want to play? He'll nod his head "yes" to the one he wants to do.)

After the incident at the sewing table, I realized what Geordie had been saying all those times he was fussy and barky with me: he wanted me to lift him so that he could see something. The next day, he did it again, so I lifted him to see my sewing, then he was quiet.

On the next day, he was fussing and barking again. This time, he wanted me to lift him to the back door so that he could look out and sniff through the screened, upper portion. I did this for a few minutes, then put him down. He came back wanting more. So, I held him up for a little while longer, then put him down. He kept coming to me and telling me he wanted me to lift him. I said "No, we're done with that for a while". The whole time I'm talking to him, he is vigorously nodding his head "Yes!" I knew that teaching him to talk would eventually lead to him arguing with me!
