Arrival Story:
I was not looking for a dog when I bought Fritz. My daughter and I were in the mall looking at the different animals that were for sale. When we came to Fritz, he was unable to stretch out in his cage. He looked miserable. I asked if we could see the dog and they brought him to us in a puppy play room. Fritz immediatly was jumping up and down climbling on my daughter and myself until the point he was exhausted. When he calmed down enough to get a good look at him, it was obvious that he was very sick. Fritz had big patches of hair missing from his body. His coat was greasy, and he had sores that looked like he itched so bad he rubbed inself raw in many places. I asked about the health of the dog and was told that he went to the vet and was given some antibiotics but was fine. Fritz was 6 months old and in terrible condition. The store wanted $450.00 for him. My daughter begged me to get him but I was reluctant because we had two Bischon puppies that were just 8 months old. I talked to the sales person and they lowered the price to $200 with the condition there wasn't a health guarantee. After talking with my daughter who was 13 at the time and looking at those big brown sad eyes, I said fine we will get him and take him to the vet and once he was well, we would find a loving home for him. After going to the vet, we found out that Fritz had sarcoptic manage. My vet reported the store to the local Animal Control and long story short, the dept. of Agriculture cited the store and made them make upgrades to the facilities in order to stay open. It took 2 months of antibiotics, and 2 months of daily oatmeal baths to heal Fritz. Once he was healed, I found him a home, but at the last minute, decided to keep Fritz because he and I had such a special bond. Unfourtanetly, Fritz was so hyper and had no mannners what so ever that I took him to Kennelwood, a training place for dogs and he qualified for the three week board and train program. It was amazing but after three weeks, I was amazed at how well behaved he was. Fritz was such a beautiful dog that I fell in love with him all over again. From that point on, Fritz has been groomed every four weeks at Kennelwood and has always had the healthy coat conditioner treatment and after about six months, his coat was back to being healthy and not feeling greasy. To this day, Fritz loves to dress up and feels as though he is entitled to go every where my daughter and I go. I believe we have spoiled him!
