Pet-Peeves: other dogs - he is protective of his home
Favorite Toy: doesn't have one
Favorite Food: Purina Select One - lamb
Favorite Walk: around the block
Best Tricks: eating dog snacks off the water bottle. he is afraid of the gurgle monster so makes a very careful and calculated approach.
Arrival Story: we got him from a Wheaton Rescue group in 2002 in Chicago. we wanted a terrier to replace Scruffy who died of cancer. He was on doggy prozac because he gets worked up around other dogs. we think we are his third owner. he is very food protective and has big, splayed paws indicating maybe he was born in a puppy mill and kept in a wire cage. he is larger than most wheatons by a couple of inches.
Bio: clancy has a deep bark and functions as mom's guard dog when clients come to the house to pick up their book work. a child's gate keeps him away from the front door - which is good because otherwise he would lick them to death. he loves small children. i am lazy and haven't worked religiously with him to break him of his food agressiveness. i have watched the cable show dog whisperer and his technique works, but you need to be consistent with it. but, on the other hand, he doesn't bother us when we are eating our food. so, i guess, leave well enough alone. when my son left Levi with us for a few months - a 1 year old pure bread wheaton - clancy tolerated him for about three weeks and then the two had it. twice. i got bit once on each thumb. see, you can teach old dogs (me) new tricks. never get between fighting dogs. he also gets very excited when any of the 5 kids come home to visit and sometimes pees on their shoes. he likes to back into visitors (a dominance trait) and barks loudly when family hugs each other. he had a metal fetish at first and mom had to make sure no paper clips ended up on the floor of her office or he would chew them into artistic sculptures.
