Back to classes. Goofy did well but we went easy on her. I don't want her burned out before her trial this weekend, plus there is another trial the weekend after.
Goofy took the teeter like a champ today. I did screw up on the tunnel when it was turned like a C. I need to make sure to concentrate on what I am doing and walk the course more.
This is going to be a crazy week with work, thanksgiving, and agility trials.

Today was our first full advanced agility class. It is not as long as the Intermediate class, but it still has a lot to offer. In the Intermediate class we often did a course of 8-10 obstacles and then broke down a course that was 20 obstacles long into 3 parts. So in a sense did 4 mini courses. But in advanced class we did a course with 10 obstacles and then the bigger one with 20 obstacles. We walked the courses before our runs... just like we would in competition.
The main thing I learned from this is that I need to watch my flow. Most often I do front crosses, but I was able to do a rear cross just fine. I need to be aware of angles I put Goofy in because of the side I am on and where it is a bad idea to do a cross. Like I know it isn't good right now to cross at a teeter... or cross before a A-frame. Goofy needs a good flow so she isn't choppy running. Getting choppy loses seconds.
No class this Friday, so next class is Intermediate again on Tuesday.

I messed up a few times in class today. I did horrible crosses. I don't think my mind was in agility. Goofy did try to cheat on the tire though by running through the bars and avoiding the tire part...haha Silly girl. She is getting better at the teeter and we did weaves at 12 instead of just 6 like always. I am getting her to pick up her speed in weaves. Today's course was a bit confusing to me, which is part of the reason I messed up. I should have walked it better.
Tomorrow we start Advanced Agility Class. We did sit in one day for the beginning of an advanced class, but this time we are doing the whole advanced class on Wednesday. This is good because I work tomorrow night and this way I won't be late.
I still haven't sent out our fees for the NADAC in Palmetto. I want to get my new schedule before paying even though I am pretty sure I am getting those 3 days off. We will be doing Skilled.

Ops, forgot to post day 2. I was too tired. For Day 2 we Qualified in Standard and Snooker. Since we qualified yesterday in Full House Level 1, we went for Level 2, but we didn't do so good. It was completely my fault plus Goofy was probably a bit tired with this being the last event of the day. Plus, I was trying to get her to go over the A-frame twice and once with bad entry.
Now for day 3. Another perfect day with 3 Qualifiers. We did Standard (not like we needed another since we already qualified 2 at level 1), Colors, and Jumpers (Level 2).
So, for the 3 day weekend Goofy Qualified in 8 of the 9 entries we had. We completed CL1-F. We just need a Qualifier in Wild Cards and Jackpot. We didn't enter in any this weekend. She also has an extra Qualifier in Standard and one Qualifier in Level 2 Jumpers.
December is our next CPE trial, so maybe we will finish Level 1 there. But our next event will hopefully be the NADAC in November. Please check out the videos I upload to see her running.

Wow, it was a lot of fun. It was a hot and humid day, but I couldn't be happier with how Goofy performed. We were entered in 3 of the 5 events. First we did was the Standard, then the Jumpers, then lastly the Full House. In all three events Goofy Qualified. Can you believe it. No faults and awesome runs. I am so proud of her. I will put some videos up when I get the chance and pick out good ones.
She now has the title CPE CL1-F since she qualified both the Full House and Jumpers. She only needs one more qualifying run of Standards to get her CPE CL1-R. We are not entered in any Jackpots though, so she won't be able to complete her title this weekend. But she will be entered in Level 2 for Jumpers and Full House. I thought Full House was a lot of fun and can't wait to try that one again.

Last night we had our last class before we compete. I arrived late to class because I got off work right when class started, but what teacher wanted us to do is each sequence once instead of twice like everyone else. Then we stayed for the early part of the advanced agility class and did what they were doing. The advanced class we walked the course for a while, then we did the entire course. It was very interesting to watch the more advanced students. I did meet a few people who will also be competing this 3-day weekend event.
All in all, Goofy is definitely improving on her teeter. I am able to get her more and more enthusiastic about taking it and I am teaching her to down where it starts to drop. This will keep her from running off of it too fast since she only weighs 5 pounds and it takes goes slower for her than larger dogs. I do see weave poles still being an issue though, but it takes time for that one anyways. I have seen a great improvement on tunnels. She used to be scared of the dark ones... but yesterdays class there was a dark colored one in a shaded part of the course at night. She took that one with no hesitation at all.
Now all I have to do is finish getting stuff together and sleep early tonight. I am sure getting excited and nervous.

We were the only students today. I noticed a problem on one course where Goofy tries to shot out of the weaves to head to a jump that would have been next in the sequence. I have to keep an eye on her. She also crossed behind me on another 2 jump sequence that was a 3/4 circle. So, what I learned is to keep an eye on Goofy and redirect her if needed.
Teacher says she did very well though. We even raised the A-frame higher and Goofy did it fine. The teeter was excellent today. Weaves a little slow. But then, those are the two most difficult things for us.
I was almost worried about the double and triple jumps since to do the 8" of those she had to pause and jump up more. She should be jumping 4" for CPE so how tall with the double and triples be?
Tomorrow night is another class, but I am going to be there late because of work. We will do only one set of everything so we can wait for the next class to do the complete course.
Just need to get a few more things before Friday.

Not as great today as a few days ago, but still doing well. I can notice her fear of the teeter starting to wear away. Needed some convincing today. I wasn't able to practice the teeter before class started since there was another class before us that was running a tad late.
But overall, I think Goofy is ready to compete. I am aware of a few things I have to be conscious of to help her do well. My body position, my signals, being aware of some tricky obstacle layouts, how I run, etc.
Next week we will have 2 more classes before the 3 day CPE event. I am thinking of buying a Flip UltraHD Camcorder to record our runs. This should help me analyze our runs. I will post them here when I get a chance too. I am still putting together our checklist. I need to check the stores for a few other items I need for our trial. I am starting to get a little nervous too. Less than a week now to go.

Goofy did just awesome today. We did have some mistakes, but not 100% sure what caused them. Probably me? I have been much more conscious where my arms are going and pointing at. Goofy does still try to run to the table when it is close... so we have to watch for that. Goofy also did just awesome today on the teeter. Two excellent teeters at top speed and no hesitation. So it can only get better. I just need to make sure I don't outrun her on the teeter and stay close. Same with the weave poles for now. Even I noticed Goofy running fast. She makes me so proud. Only a week before competition.
I even made Goofy a fleece slip leash since she can't run with her bell collar. This will get her used to running naked. Well, just with a clip to hold her hair, but even that might need to be changed to a rubber band.
Also, last week Tuesday we went to practice at teacher's place. She was out of town, but we got permission to do some work. So we got a little work done, which I honestly think helped.

Looks like Goofy is back to her usual self. She has recovered from our lapse of training classes and is back in condition. Our entry for the CPE in October has been sent. We will be doing 3 runs for 3 days. So a total of 9 runs. I am looking forward to this.
There were quite a bit of dogs in this morning class. We at least had company with a mini schnauzer doing the 8" jumps. I did mess up badly on one signal. I really have to watch out where my arms are flying. At least I am getting better at this. I do wish I had a camcorder so I can watch myself later to see all my stupid mistakes. Goofy is perfect. =)
I need to make Goofy a martingale collar/leash combo for competition. This should be much easier to get on and off instead of the buckle I have now. Plus, starting next class Goofy has to learn to run without her collar on.
There are no classes next week nor on Tuesday the week after. So not until a week and a half can we do classes again. But we will still be practicing. No way I can let Goofy and I slack with the CPE trials getting closer. I have to wait until next week to make a request to have Thanksgiving weekend off so I can enter Goofy in the NADAC. I already sent registration fees for NADAC this week.

Some things got in the way with keeping up with classes, but we are back into it. We have a trial coming up soon and we both need to keep our mental and physical fitness up.
Tuesday morning was nice. I could tell that Goofy was getting a bit sluggish. It didn't see so much physical as it did mental. She still did well and we worked out minor errors. Can't expect her to be perfect after not doing it for a while.
Tonight was better. I could still tell she wasn't what she was last time we had a class, but she has improved. I was so proud of her when I finally saw the effort she makes running the course. I do need work though. I have been making errors from my fatigue. Teacher caught me bringing my arms back in instead of leaving them out to give Goofy direction. This was probably the cause of some confusion.
We will be going back Friday morning for another class. We need to get back in shape before the October CPE trial. I am sending out our entry tomorrow and we will be entered in 3 events each day (Fri, Sat, and Sun). This should be interesting and a lot of fun. I am hoping I also get Thanksgiving weekend off for the NADAC event. If I can, I will enter Goofy in that one. Until Friday...

Looks like I forgot an entry to last Wednesday night's agility class.
It went rather well and at the end of class we did the whole course again since it is something we have to get used to doing. I notice I am getting better at directing Goofy and noticing what obstacles might 'trick' her.
Tomorrows class I plan to bring a list of the events for the October CPE event so my teacher can help me select the events to enter her in. She suggested 3 events a day should be fine for her first competition. I am sure looking forward to that. We will probably be in advanced class soon too.
Tomorrow morning is another class. I am still amazed at how far we both have gone.

Well, yesterday morning Goofy had another class. We were the only students again. YEAH!!! So it was more like a private class.
Teacher shows us some new stuff and helped improve my handling skills with a few exercises. Goofy is definitely getting better and better. But still like usual, the things that need work are still teeter and weave poles. Lucky when we compete in CPE lvl 1 we don't have to worry about either of those. So we have time to work on perfecting them.
Can't wait for tonight's class. I am starting to get the hang of going to 3 classes a week. Two for Goofy and one for Kitty.

Ops, forgot to post about Goofy's class this past Wednesday night.
It went really well. Only another person with a boxer showed up for class. Maybe everyone else had bad rain in their area, but the training class area was fine. Lots of rumbling from the sky though.
The practice went rather well. Teacher gave us some good advice and told me what I needed to work on so I was communicating with Goofy better. We finished off the class by doing the whole course of 18 obstacles. We did very well and teacher seemed pleased.
I still think we need most work on fast weaves, steady teeters, and serpentine jumps. And just thinking about it, I don't know when tunnels no longer became an issue... but it seems all fine now.
I need to register Goofy for the October CPE competition.

I missed last week going to class. It has been a little hectic with a new puppy here. But I was glad to take Goofy to class today.
We started the day warming up on some equipment. She took the teeter great, she did the weave poles perfect, and took other items as if she was born to do this. But come around exercise time she again balked at the teeter and acted like she was never introduced to the wave poles...haha Silly girl.
We did some serpentine exercises today and you could see the confusion in Goofy's face about what I was asking her to do. We took the tire, went over 3 jump sequence serpentine, came out the tunnel, retook all 3 jumps, and ended with the tire. We did them 2 different ways. At the end of the class we did some practice on them again and it looked like she was starting to get the hang of it.
She did surprise me today. The tunnel entrance was near the end of the A-frame and snaked under it. She did her A-frame as told and understood my hand signal to take the tunnel. Normally at that angle she looks confused but she took the tunnel and figured it out. I was so proud of her for that.
Well, tomorrow is another class. To bad I work in the morning though because poor Kitty has to miss Puppy class... but I will get her homework when I take Goofy to her Agility class. Funny how I have so many class days for my girls. I feel so busy now. Can't wait for Kitty to learn agility too.

Wow, another class huh?
Goofy did well today. Like always we practice the obstacles she has issues with before class starts. So today was teeter, weave, and tunnel at angles.
I have to say, she does know weave. But acts likes she doesn't at times...lol Can't wait for my order of weave poles to arrive soon. Teeter she seems to be getting over, but then suddenly she is like "oh wait, I think I am supposed to not like this thing" and stops midway on it...haha
We did have difficulty with some jump positioning. When the jumps are almost lined up side by side and you have to send her over one while making a half circle to the next... well I mess up and send the wrong signals. I think we will try to practice that in the beginning of next class. But I am getting a better idea of positioning and strategies for running the course.
We also finally practiced the multiple jump in class today with only 2 of the last ones. She is getting the hang of the word "get" and getting it much better. So tomorrow before class we need to practice that a few times too. Next week I hope we can get her to doing 3 in a row.

We were again the only students in class. It is like having a private session without the price...lol.
We did a mini course of 8 to start. Then we broke the large course of 21 obstacles into 3 sections. We did 1-6. Then 7-13. And last 14-21. Then at the end of class, teacher had us do the whole course 1-21 for the first time. She said Goofy's fitness is looking good so we can try. It was awesome doing the whole course and Goofy did well (though I need work still...haha).
I did notice something that teacher noticed and mentioned was that I have to make sure before Goofy runs a course to fix her top knot because Goofy uses her peripheral vision while running and it can be blocked by the hair if not pulled up well. So I need to make sure on that.
Goofy did much better with the tires today even with the grass a bit over grown. The teeter was on and off how she felt about it but she is gaining confidence. I am getting more aware of the signals I send her so I am not messing her up. My body and where it is facing is also important for Goofy to know what I want her to do. Weave poles are still an issue, but I will be ordering them from Over!Rover and will have them this month so I can practice at home.
I have decided that Goofy will be getting her summer modified continental very soon. I was letting her grow out puffy because I didn't know what I wanted. I do love her puffy, but I would also love to see how the muscles in her rear is now. She was Miss Flabby Bottom...haha
I did notice tear stains increasing again. This has to be because of one of the treats I am using and I know exactly which one it has to be. So I won't be using that one anymore. I have added Angel's Eyes to her food for a few days now to get rid of those ugly stains quicker.
Anyways, next class isn't until next week since teacher will be out of town starting tomorrow. So wait for another post next Tuesday.

Another class, but today we went for a Friday morning one. It is one hour later than the time we go for Tuesday morning so it was warmer already. Goofy did act sluggish, but I can't say for sure if it is because of the weather or because she had such a big meal last night. I think in the future I will make sure she doesn't have that much to eat before classes.
Goofy is back to being "duh" about weave poles again...haha It is funny sometimes she does awesome and other times she acts retarded. Luckily I will be placing an order for some weave poles this month so we can practice at home. Teacher did say though that weave poles take time to learn properly. It can take years before she does really well on them. So I guess I shouldn't feel too bad since she does okay from time to time.
She did get scared on the teeter again.... -.- Oh well. This time her back legs almost slipped off. We will keep at it and with time I don't think it will be a problem. As long as I can encourage her and she will do it, we will keep trying. When she finally quits altogether I would start worrying.
Our "get" exercise is paying off. We will continue to practice this between classes.
Teacher also told me a few things I did wrong and how to correct it. Goofy was doing awesome, but I need some work too...haha I need to be sure I am sending clear signals for her to understand. But I am learning and I hope Goofy keeps trying to figure me out even though I can be confusing if not retarded at times.
Next class is Tuesday morning (no rain please). No other class the rest of the week because teacher will be out of town for an agility competition in GA. Guess we will have to practice at home then. Not time for us to get lazy and flabby. =P

Well, today was the 8th Intermediate Agility Class. I can say for sure that she has made a lot of progress this month. She takes 2 classes a week and I hope to eventually get it up to 3 classes a week if I can. As long as Goofy is having fun of course.
Today rained a lot. For the start of the class at least the rain had stopped in the area for about 30 minutes. We were only able to complete 2 mini courses, but I can see definite improvement.
She is taking the weave poles appropriately today. The teeter takes minimal encouragement to get her to go. Tunnels with water didn't seem like a huge issue. She would still perform when it was raining lightly, but when it poured like crazy everyone ran for cover. We had to be careful on walks and A-frame cause of the rain and I can see Goofy's pace slow on those items. She did have some problems with the tire today, but also there were grass bits that were hitting her in the head so I can see why she had some issues.
But the best thing is finally a little more distance control. This week I had been practicing at home with my 2 single jumps outside. I would tell her to "over" one of them while standing still and then tell her to "Get" the next jump ahead without moving. It took a short time for her to figure it out. We also did some control exercises teaching her to watch the hands for cues. But it was sure great when we did one of the mini courses and instead of running to the jump further away I wanted her to get, I just told her "Get" and she got it. The word "Go on" was definitely not for us, and I do need to be careful with the "Get" now since it has a meaning.
We will see how the weather is tomorrow for another class at night.

Last night was another class. Goofy seems to be slowly getting over her reluctance to do the teeter. In the beginning of the class we go straight to the teeter, I pick her up and place her near the end so she can get comfortable again with the feeling of the teeter dropping. Then I slowly move the point I place her on the teeter back. I am almost having her at the mid point. But while running the course today I was able to convince her minimally to take the whole teeter from start to finish, so she is getting more confident. I am glad she was afraid because now she will have a more solid foundation of the teeter without fears popping up later down the line.
The current issue seems to have changed to the weave poles now. I don't know if she is just bored of it or doesn't like it. Either way it is a new one to practice more of once the teeter is conquered.
The tunnels don't seem to be much of an issue now.. she does balk at times at the walk which I assume is because she thinks it is a teeter. Her distance work is getting a little better, but we still need more practice.
The multiple jump exercise isn't really going anywhere so I have a new idea on how to get her to do it. We will just start with 1 then go to 2, then so on. Break it down into little steps because she isn't getting the idea of what I want with all 6. Oh, and another reason she might be confused as to what to do. I use the words teacher uses, "Go on". But I don't think that will work for us. I use the word "go" frequently with no true meaning which can cause this confusion. So I must come up with another word and determine the meaning of it so as not to confuse Goofy. It is a wonder she doesn't just give up on me...haha
So until next week, we have some practice to do at home. Too bad it has been so HOT out.

Today we were the only students in class. Most times there are 1-2 other people.
I started Goofy on the jumping exercise bars that we finished with on Wednesday's class. I had to still run along side her and tell Goofy to "go on" to the next jumps. For some reason she ditches the last jump and goes around. So I think there is something else I will try next time. Also, for now the bars are on the ground.
Then we went to the mini courses. They are the same as last Wednesday's class. It seems they change every Wednesday, so tomorrow's course will be different. We got through all the mini's quickly and took a break to cool down some. After a break, Goofy did the main course in half. First was a sequence of 10 obstacles, then the remaining 5 obstacles.
The end of the class was attempting the jumping exercises again. I walked her around for a little to cool down, then we went home. Goofy got a bath soak and is now probably tired. Next class is tomorrow night. =)

It was thundering and there was occasional lightning in the distance, but we were lucky it didn't start to rain until the end of class.
I first started out working with the teeter. I have to still lure her up. She is now balking at the middle of the teeter. It is clear that her fear is the pivot point. So I did put her on the pivot point a few times and rewarded her. No rush to get her over this fear since CPE level 1 doesn't have a teeter in it.
We had 4 mini courses this time with 2 times each like always. She is gaining some distance control and my crossing is getting much better. I think we are starting to work for each other. Teacher of course gives good tips on what to work on next. One mini course had the teeter, but teacher said it was fine to just leave that out. We don't want to lower her success.
Again she had some issue with the weave poles. I think this might need more precision work later too. Plus introducing her to menacing tunnels. Funny how she doesn't mind the collapsed one at all but doesn't like regular tunnels at times...lol
I did make a mistake in class and said 'tire' instead of the correct 'tunnel'. Goofy looked confused (I swear she was looking for the correct tire I called for), but I said tunnel quickly after and she went for it. My bad. This is one indicator that she is learning the names of what she is supposed to do.
At the end of the class teacher showed Goofy and I how to do this one exercise that helps teach the dog to work away from me. I don't know what it is called though. It is basically 6 jumps in a row with about 3-4' between each jump... I think that much distance. The jumps are along a fence with a net on the other side so it makes a chute. What is supposed to happen is I should be able to send Goofy to do all 6 jumps without having to move... and she should come back around out of the chute of jumps. Right now I have to run along side it and Goofy is fine. This also helps build her back end with those jumps. The bars aren't up right now though since we first need to learn the concept before adding more difficulty.
Since it started raining near the end of class, I didn't want to work more on the teeter and have her fall off it. So we will have to wait until Tuesday morning class for more work. But we are going to see teacher's dogs perform at the CPE on Saturday. I wish I could go Friday too but I work.
Check out the new pictures of Goofy doing agility I posted. My boyfriend was nice enough to come with me and take some.

Well, it is official. Goofy is scared of the teeter. It must be from last week her going way too fast on it. I should have helped her get over it then instead of leaving it alone this long. So in today's class I did some practice to get her on it on her own. I could have placed her in the middle, but I want her to gain confidence on her own for now. I had to lure her up it with bribes. But after a few good bribes on the way up, we called it quits. Tomorrow I will go for another class at night and we will continue this.
I should have known something was up when Goofy balked at the walk. This is not normal at all and I assume she thought it might be a teeter. When she realized it was not she was fine.
Goofy was in a funny mood today and to start was messing around. She didn't take the weaves properly, but with some coaxing, all went fine. It was warm out so that might be it, or it could be the increased exercise in her daily routines.
Teacher says Goofy has good ground speed for a little dog. I am glad to hear that since I worry if she might be slow and wondering how you are supposed to increase that. For now I suppose we have other things to work on... like the teeter and walk. Then some distance work. I also need to work on myself. I need to know where I am going because sometimes I get lost or have bad angles.

I took Goofy to the vet office just for a weighing. She is 4 lbs and 13 oz. That is 2 oz heavier than last time if I recall. She is by no means fat, but is getting leaner.
So for now I have to assume her ideal body weight is going to be going closer to 5 pounds now. Her meal size has increased to 3 oz because she has been more active with agility. I will try to check her weight next week and check her fitness to decide if I need to raise that amount more or not. I am guessing that she will need more than 3 oz, but not quite 3.5 oz. So possibly all that is needed is one or two days of eating all she can... which is about 4 oz.

Just took her to the night class. I was a bit worried it was too soon for another class, but Goofy still seems to have energy now that we are home. I did notice her getting a tad sluggish as the class wore on, but it was warm out.
I definitely learned more though. Goofy doesn't have as much problems on the tunnels today, but most of them were in a similar layout as last class. The teeter was the biggest challenge since she goes tooooo fast. I have to remember to slow her down and stop her so it has enough time to come down. She did finally clear all 3 poles of the jump that has 3 poles. What is that called?
The thing we worked on most in the class is crossings. I learned more about how where I am at messes up Goofy's momentum. Goofy and I need to work as a team and I sure don't want to bring her down...lol
Next class to attend with be the Tuesday morning. It is nice we can attend any of the Intermediate classes teacher has. It helps add some variety, distraction, and we learn more being around others. Also, if we can't go a certain day, no worries. Go when you can. So far, we have 3 of our 8 classes punched out. =)

Today was the second class and I have to say it seemed much easier for Goofy. I guess it means I learned a little about her and she is getting more fit.
Again there were 2 runs on 3 different mini courses. Each mini course being 6-8 obstacles.
I remembered from last class Goofy was having problems with tunnels. They are dark and scary. So when I got there I had her try the tunnel for the first set of obstacles first. Of course she would refuse to take it, but I figured out how to coax her and after one go through, she would do it no problem. So during our walks of each course I had Goofy try each new tunnel. Hopefully with more and more tunnel practice of different looks she will generalize that they are no problem.
She did have a problem with the teeter today and jumped too early. It was my fault really because I changed position while she was on the teeter. So after that experience she didn't want to do it again, but I coaxed her with yummies and made sure I didn't cross and all was fine. We also figured out that the broad pole jumps were an issue because I was not sending her straight. She did take all her jumps at 8" today.
It was a lot of fun watching other teams doing the same course. I am hoping to attend the Friday morning intermediate agility class... but if not the next one will be Tuesday morning again.
Goofy did get real dirty this class. =( I just bathed her yesterday. So I decided to let her do a light swimming lesson in the bath tub figuring it will be a good cool down exercise plus clean her up.

Today was our first intermediate agility class. I have to say it was a lot of fun. Very challenging. There were two other dogs in the class who have been taking it for a while so they were much more seasoned than I. But teacher has high hopes for Goofy and me. I can tell from just this class what needs serious work.
She is great on jumps, but needs distance. In class the jumps were either 4" or all poles on the ground. She needs to wait before we raise the bars to 8" even though we know she can do it. One thing to do at a time.
Tunnels are still an issue when they are bent and longer. She seems afraid to lose me and it will be time before she learns I will always be there on the other side. For now she seems lost when she exits as she searches for me.
Tire seems to be a new issue with her not figuring out where to go through. I think she will figure this one out quickly enough though. The tunnels in this class are different from the last in some ways so once she figures it out we will be good.
Weaves are great when the poles are apart, but she needs some work on figuring out when they are close. She isn't doing to bad and I can see her learning this one quickly.
The A-frame and Walk were both much higher than last class so Goofy was a bit uncertain. She did get over both quickly enough.
The teeter was also higher so we are assimilating her to the new high and so far she is fearless. I do love her can do attitude.
We ran mini courses consisting of 5-8 obstacles. I notice I need work with sending away and crossings. This is something we both need work on. But she is eager to do the course and I am sure she was very tired in the end. We did every set of mini courses 2 times and we did 3 different mini courses. I look forward to her next class. I will at least do 1 class a week and if I can, 2 classes. We have a punch card for classes we take. Once we are done with our 8 punches, we can buy another card for much cheaper. =)

The water was raised a tad higher this time but still Goofy can keep her head above water by standing. This time though she let her rear go lower in the water not standing on them and using her fronts to navigate making a more of a swimming motion. A few times I picked her up to get her to swim, but most of the time she spent walking/swimming around the tub. Going from here to there. This times lesson was longer than the last, but I think she still had fun. She is definitely getting the idea what swimming is about.
Next few times I will most likely increase the amount of time slowly that she stays in the tub. I will also do longer sessions of holding her above the water so she can kick but not have to worry about sinking.
I posted pictures above of her in the tub and one afterward still wet.

Today was the first attempt at teaching Goofy to swim. The water was almost over her back but not quite yet. Enough depth where she is a bit buoyant, but not too deep where she can't reach the floor. I held her up and lowered her slowing to the water to get her to do the paddle response with her front legs. When she did, I gave her lots of praise and a treat. We ended the fun with her just kicking around the bath tub on her own. It all lasted a few minutes tops. Of course she loved the towel drying when we were done.

Yesterday, Goofball graduated from her Basic Agility class. Once I get some more money, she will start Intermediate Agility class in June. The place I go to has special small dog intermediate agility classes, which is great since Goofy is so small.
Yesterday's class was a rainy day and by the time class rolled around it was sprinkling non-stop for a few hours. So the area was WET! Luckily Goofy doesn't have a major issue with the wet or drizzling rain. The biggest problem the rain causes was wetting the collapsed tunnel so most dogs had problems going through it. Goofy just needed help with one try and the rest she would do on her own. I love her enthusiasm once she gets the hang of things.
It seems she has learned the basic concept of the weave poles (with them seperated, but close enough to make her weave a little). She went through 6 on her own and I didn't have to use a target stick to guide her through. I was so excited when she did it on her own... **CHEER**
She does still need work on the broad jump and judging how high and wide double jumps are. Tunnels are an issue on and off, but mostly when it is dark. The teeter she is doing awesome and on yesterdays class she was able to finally do it properly off leash. The walk, A-frame, basic jumps, etc are all going well.
Well, next class will be next month and I hope to have a ton of fun. The teacher tells me it is then she trains the owners how to do things. So I guess Intermediate class is about training me more than training my own dog...haha

Goofy has been doing very well in agility so far. Tonight was the 5th class and there are 3 more to go. So far we have done the jump, broad jump, tire jump, double jump, teeter, walk, A-frame, pause table, tire, collapsed tire, and weave (up to 4 bars now). Wow that is a lot just in a few classes.
Goofy is a great sport and takes things in stride. The only issues I noticed right now is she launches off the broad jump (not good) and balks at the tire if it is dark inside (sharply turned, which most of the dogs in class had an issue with). Both are completely workable. She doesn't seem to have a major issue with the teeter yet... I think that is the most challenging piece of equipment.
At home I have 2 small jumps that I practice with and plan to purchase a double jump and later hopefully the broad jump. Some of the other equipment are a bit costly or bulky to get them all.
Once the beginners class is over she will be going to the intermediate small dog agility class. My hope is to one day compete in small dog agility.

Today was a ball. Goofy went to work with me just incase I got off late we would still make it in time for our agility class. Luckily I got off on time and was able to find the place nice and early.
Goofy meet a lot of nice large dogs. They were so nice and friendly, but I think she liked the other fluffy small ones more.
First we started out with having our dogs do quick downs and sits. I think this was to make sure we already knew these commands so they don't have to teach us this in class. Everyone should know these two for the class.
The lady said that if you taught your dog obedience and to walk on the left that it was important to teach them to walk on the right side. She said to use the command "Side" and to leave "Heel" as the obedience one. Goofy quickly learned she gets treats on the other side and watched my hand for what side to walk on.
Then the dogs were sent to walk over tubes laying on the ground. The larger dogs just walked over it... but the little dog and Goofy were jumping them...haha
We then went over more tubes laying on the ground to teach the dogs they have a back side. The class was split in two. Small dogs and large dogs. We used the left and right sides for all exercises.
Next was the jumps. Again the class was split and we did 3 chain jumps over very low practice jumps. Goofy did this like a pro as if she knew what was happening all along.
We got the chute next without the fabric. Goofy caught on quickly to this one... so the class moved on the a scrunched up tunnel. Took Goofy a bit but she got the hang of this too.
Last thing for the class was the weave. Only 2 poles were put out and we used both our sides. They taught us proper entry.
All in all, it was great fun. Can't wait for next class. Wish I could get some pictures.

I just finished making Goofy's Renaissance Dress today. It is fashioned more after a peasant dress with subtle colors and design. Check the photos above to see the dress and pattern.
This upcoming Saturday we are going to the Bay Area Renaissance Festival for the Pet Fest. I will take some pictures later with Goofy wearing her new dress. Tomorrow she will be going to the groom shop to get prettied up. I do still need to make a bow for her head.

I let Goofy's grooming go for too long. It all got delayed because she got spayed then I got too sick to work for a week. I finally took her to work today and groomed her up. Her coat is soooooo soft I love it. It does make me sad to look at her right leg and see it shaved short where her cath was for when she got fixed. I will have to let her coat grow out some to cover it up then I can work on a new look for her. I am thinking of going with a puppy show cut but not sure since Goofy has a stocky body and is a tad long in the body. So it will depend how she looks when her coat grows out longer.
Also, next month I hope to have her start her agility class. I have yet been able to check out their facility since I had been sick on off for a while. Hopefully this upcoming Monday I can view the basic agility class and I hope to also view the Intermediate small dog agility class too to see how we can progress with this trainer. They sure are not cheap that is for sure, but if they do a good job of training I don't see why not paying a good price.

I am so glad Goofy is acting a bit more like herself. She is showing her appetite. I was sure getting worried that her appetite is not where it should be at, but she is finally eating her food eagerly.
She got her dose of pain meds this morning which I hope is making her feel okay. No more crying like yesterday. During the night she did cry a little, but I had made her a new bed on top of her cage so she could be higher up closer to me. This will be her bed place from now on. I like having her up near my face but not where I can roll over her. Keeps her away from the cold near the floor too. Don't know why I didn't do this sooner.
I have also set up Goofy to start Basic Agility Training, which starts March 9th. It is a ways off, but she will be done healing by then and I will have her fitness worked back up. I sure hope she likes this sport... if not, we will see what else works for her.

Goofy went to the vets early this morning before 8am. The vet told me what the normal spay fees were and said since Goofy was under 6 years old, it was optional if I wanted to get the cath and bloodwork. After finding out the prices, I figured why not. I would regret it if I didn't do everything I could to make sure she will be fine.
I got a call around noon that Goofy was now coming out of the anethesia. That she did well and is fine. Oh how good I felt hearing that news. So nice of them to call me instead of me waiting until I couldn't stand it anymore and calling them to see how she made out. They said she would be ready to go at 2pm.
Before picking her up I went and bought her some Duck Stella & Chewys premade raw. I think after the surgery she should have something easy to eat that doesn't end up a work out pulling apart. I also picked up a Flossie for her to chew on. (She still has half a cow trachea from over 2 weeks ago...)
When I picked her up she was so pathetic. She made these little grunting whining sounds. They are so low you can almost miss it. The vet sent me home with her pain meds. She takes it in the morning for the next three days. The total bill came out almost $400, which also included a 3 month pack of Revolution. Money well spent for the peace of mind I got plus I have another blood work done. That is 2 panels done so far.
Now it is time for my little girl to recover. She is still crying softly to herself. She has no interest in food (not her at all) and water. She did pee. For now sleep is all she needs. Sleep in a comfortable bed...
EDIT: I uploaded a sound file of her making the most pitiful cries. It was uploaded as a video, but is a sound file.

I have finally set up Goofy's spay appointment for tomorrow. I was going to have it done Monday of next week but right now is better. Next week I would have Monday and Tuesday off. Since work is slow for Friday, I made a special request to have that day off. So I will be off Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. My bf would be home on Sunday while I am at work. Then Monday and Tuesday I will have off again. I am very nervous about Goofy going to surgery. I have lost a dog before (Oni, Standard Poodle) to a spay surgery. I hope all will be fine for my little girl Goofy.
I groomed her today so she will be set for a bit. Her haircut is still a transition haircut. I am growing out her continental and going for a puppy cut instead. I used a #4 to even out the last of her shaved rear. From now on, I will let her hair grow out and start shaping it. Who knows what is next after this...
And the problem with her obsessively licking her legs... it has stopped for now. I am glad it has. Now to let the hairs on her legs grow back out. The only sad thing is that the fur in those spots are darker. Maybe in time they will lighten up to what her fur is supposed to be colored there.

It has been a while since I have done an update.
For starters, in early December Goofy went to the vet because she has been repeatedly licking her legs causing sores to appear and not go away. This has been a problem since she got fleas in the summer and although the fleas are gone, her licking has not gone away. There is a high chance it became an obsession for her to lick herself so much she created sores. It would be on one leg, then move to another. I had enough so she went to the vet. The recommendation was to put her on Benadryl and some meds to put on her wound that would help the healing and itching. I even bandaged that back left leg which was the one that had the current wound, but then she started to lick her front paws. The solution was to buy an inflatable neck e-collar. So for most of the time she had to wear that. It has been a month now since her vet visit and her leg is doing much better. It has scabbed and I have successfully kept her from making it worse. I would not say her obsession with licking her leg is 100% cured, but I would say 80%. She still wears the e-collar when I can't supervise her in the day and at night. When I am home, the e-collar is off. I still keep her left leg bandaged to ensure it heals properly. I have even started washing her paws after her raw meals to reduce itchiness that might cause her to start licking. She still takes Benadryl 1-2 times a day.
Goofy is in a transition clip right now. I have decided to put her in a puppy cut so her hair is not quite even yet. She has to grow back out from the modified continental she had.
I have decided that I will start Goofy in agility this year. So in preparation, I plan to slowly up her activity. She gets a 20 minute walk in the morning and a 20-30 minute walk at night. I hope to increase it slowly before I get her started in a class. I also plan to fix her early next month before she takes a class. I have finally decided I won't breed her. So after surgery, I will set her up for a class.
Well, that is most of the update I have to give. I wish I had some special vacations for my dogs, but it will have to wait. Maybe going back to CA this year would be good at least.

Today is Goofy's 3rd Birthday. I had to work today, but I did get her some special things. She got a bag of treats that are Goat and Sweet Potato. Doesn't that scream yummy? She also got a cow trachea, for chewing. Then raw lamb for dinner. Plus an eco friendly toy.
I think she had a good day. Now if only I can get her freshly groomed tomorrow for some nice pictures.

It has been almost a week since I used Angel's Eyes and I have to say it works great. I can already tell the difference. Once the stain is gone, I will lessen the dosage and frequency as the instruction says.
I have also been trying to stay diligent with the PetzLife Oral Gel. I will take a picture later on that one.

I think it is time to take a step back and look over Goofy's diet and other health issues.
First off, her dental. I don't want to put her under to get her teeth cleaned. I have used Petzlife but I am horrible at keeping up everyday. So although I did well for a week or two, I slacked. But I am very determined to stick to this. Her teeth and breath have improved noticeably. I just have to keep it up.
Second are her tear stains. I am tired of them so I will do a few things. For a few days now she has been taking Angels Eyes once a day. Just 1/4 teaspoons of this stuff. She likes the taste. I will also try to find a better filter for my sink faucet so she is not getting tap. This will also help reduce the amount of minerals that can cause the staining.
And last is her diet. I will be reviewing everything I have been doing and make adjustments. I think it is important to step back and look at your dogs diet from time to time to assess that things are going good. I am going to try to increase the amount of organic foods in her diet. I need to locate some local sources of meat as well from the local small farms. She will be given certain supplements as well. I need to back off from using NV's medallions which may be helping the staining of her eyes. I think I will start taking a log too of what she eats to get a better idea things are still good.
I will post picture updates for her eyes and teeth when I get them.

So, I was doing pretty good applying PetzLife to both my dog's teeth twice a day. I sometimes used a rubber toothbrush, but mostly just rubbed it in with my finger. Then suddenly I slacked off... Bad me...
So, again on the 6th I started to to do PetzLife again for both my dogs twice a day. This time though I am using a kids toothbrush twice a day on them. I hope to get pictures next week to compare to their original photos. Their breath is definitely much better with this stuff.

Goofy went for her yearly physical today. She weighed in at 4.75 pounds. The vet said that is a good weight, but I think she could still stand to lose a little. Goofy is getting 2.5 oz of raw daily, which seems to be working okay.
They had a hard time getting her blood for the heartworm test. They poked both of her poor little arms, but finally got a sample. Goofy was a good sport through the whole thing. She tested negative for heartworm, so I bought some more Revolution.
So it seems Goofy is all good. She didn't need any vaccinations since both rabies and the distemper combo don't expire until 2010.

Last week I found a place that sold PetzLife, which comes in gel or spray. So I bought a bottle of the gel stuff to try out. I had heard this stuff works good to get dog's teeth nice and clean.
Today it has been one full week of using the gel twice a day. I can notice a slight change in the amount of plaque. Keep in mind I have only been using the finger brush on her teeth for one treatment every day or two. I am sure I can get more off if I tried to scrap it, but for now I will do with the occasional brushing with the finger brush.

The mystery of who the secret santa was solved today at the opening of the secret package. Inside were clues to who it was. Well, the card was the give away...haha Our secret santa was Yippy. Inside the box, which sat for a while untouched but not forgotten, was many goodies. Each pup had their own special gifts and other things to share. They were supposed to share their treats and toy, but Goofball was being a brat and wanted it all for herself. Inside her special baggie, she received a handmade scarf. It was white with sparkle to it. Perfect for the little diva she acts like. She also got an adorable little charm for her collar. She was not happy I took her collar off to put the charm on, but was happy to receive it back along with a scarf, which she stretched out her neck to receive. Thank you Yippy.

Yesterday was Goofy's birthday. Unfortunately I had to work and with all this moving and settling down, I have neglected her party. I will go buy her a new toy or some treats if I can. She did have an all you can eat meat night though so at least her tummy was full up.

We left CA on November 9th and flew to FL. We finally got our apartment on the 16th. Goofball did a nice job of settling in quickly. At first she had to get used to someone elses house and new set of routines. Then she had to learn what apartment living was. We haven't had carpet in a while, so both my dogs are on supervised out times. This gives them time to get used to the place too.
We have a lovely lakeside view with a nice patio. Instead of taking walks near streets, they now get walks around a lake. If I get bored of one lake, I can just go walk around another. The apartments are dog friendly here and I have seen many dogs. I do with some people would follow the rules. Some people let their dogs off-leash and others don't pick up after their dogs.
I like it here and hope my dogs like their new home.

Last Friday, Goofy went to the vet check-up and to get a health certificate to fly with me when we move to FL. She checked out in good health, although she has gained a few more oz than needed. She is also now on Heartgard Plus.
Goofy weighs a hefty 4.6 pounds. She should be about 4 pounds. It is my fault for not exercising her much lately. That will be fixed once I am in my new place. Both the girls need walks. Playing with each other is just not enough, although it is fun to watch.

Well, Goofy needs a Halloween costume, so I just went and bought her one. I thought I should get Cricket the scarecrow one. Then I had to have Goofy match her, so I thought, a lion. But when I got to the store I saw a cute witch one so I bought it.
When I got home I tried them on my dogs and realized, both are a bit larger and need some minor modifications. I also realized Cricket is having problems with the oversized sleeves of the scarecrow but does fine (with modification) on the witch one, so both of them switched costumes. Now Goofy is the scarecrow.
The costume was XS, but it still needed modification. For Goofy's scarecrow, I had to sew it up so it wasn't so loose. Then I had to trim up all the fringes because they are so long. Almost looked like Goofy was lost in a hay stack. Otherwise, the costume fit fine. Not the best quality compared to what I could have made, but at least she has a costume for tonight. We are going to Petsmart for pictures.
EDIT: Goofy wins 3rd place at a Petsmart Costume Contest.

I have been working yesterday and today on Goofball's Halloween costume for this year. It is coming along much better than last year and am happy with the results thus far. It still needs more work and details though so it is far from done right now. This year Goofball will be a hippogryph. It is a mythical creature who is half eagle and half horse. Can't wait to post some pictures of it done.
See last year's Halloween Costume on page 2. Near the bottom are 2 pictures of Goofball wearing a dragon costume I made her. She was so darn adorable in it.

I don't want to use chemicals on her that I can't pronounce much less figure out what it is. So I decided to make her soap myself. Keep in mind, I have never made soap before, so I had to do a lot of researching and purchasing of equipment/ingredients.
Finally, today I was able to take the time to try making my first batch of castile soap. I used my own recipe and it seems to have come out nicely. I will probably make changes with my recipe until I perfect it the way I like. See pictures on Goofball's page 5 of her photos.

I took Goofy to the vet today for an x-ray since it has been 51 days from the time she bred with a male. Her x-rays showed that she has no puppies inside her. That means she is not pregnant after all. This is a mixed blessing of sorts. I was hoping for one puppy from her to keep. But now that she is not pregnant, then I can move earlier in November than anticipated. Also, I don't have to worry so much about her food or making sure she doesn't exert herself. I was prepared for her to have a puppy, but I think it was better to be prepared than unprepared.
Too bad for Goofy because I think she has been eating a bit too good because I thought she was pregnant. Time to go on a tiny diet. She weighed 4.4 pounds, so time to lose .4 pounds. Now I can exercise her more without worries.

Goofy went to the vet today for an office visit. The reason is she may be pregnant (on purpose). She tied once with the chosen stud July 19th. (She is 3 weeks in now.) In another 2-3 weeks I will have another vet appointment scheduled so they can look her over, and then again on her 8th week she will go in for an x-ray.
So far she doesn't seem any fatter and is eating normal daily portions of food. Goofy's weight is still in normal range. Her nipples do seem to be a bit more pronounced.
