Arrival Story: Ethel came to us from the Missouri bootheel area after she received an injury to her back. She was stray and foraging through residential garbage for her supper when a young man hit her across her back with a stick to make her go away....she immediately loss the use of her back legs. Fortunate for her, it was nerve damage and within a few weeks was up on all 4 . Bio: Little did we know when we first took her in, that the worse damage done to her was not physical but emotional. Whatever trust and love she had for mankind was completely deleted at that exact moment. It took 4 months of love and reassurance before she would not try to run away or melt in the floor when we tried to pet her. It would take 7 months before she would even interact with another dog and what a happy day that was when we saw her not only playing but had initiated it!! Visitors to our home is a whole different story but one that has finally resolved itself after a little more than a year...4th of July we had quite a bit of company and she stayed in the thick of it and accepted all offers of love and affection. She gets to go out and run our woods chasing rabbits and rolling in clover now and always comes back to a comfy spot next to mom.....she is truly a Cinderella story I've Been On Dogster Since:
