And so the days passed at Castle Pokerton. Lazy days of napping, eating, and being entertained by the Court Jesters. Her favorite place was snuggling in the Queen's lap on the big throne. Princess Tess was becoming used to this royal treatment.

The weather grew warmer and soon the lands around the castle were lush and green. The Princess and Sir Whines-a-lot spent many hours romping and exploring the fields outside the castle. They loved to sun themselves on the stone patio in the courtyard or roll the soft grass.

One day an evil curse befell the kingdom. Dark storm clouds filled the skies around the castle. It rained and rained fur days. Tess and Sir Whines-a-lot were trapped inside the castle as the moat threatened to flood the castle. When they were finally able to venture outside, they noticed the lush, green fields around the castle had been placed under an evil spell. Huge plants with massive thorns had taken over. They couldn't run and frolic any more fur fear of being attacked.

The Queen went outside. She had a magic wand and began attacking the evil plants. Tess cowered on the stone patio. Suddenly appeared, the scariest sight......a red dragon! It roared and spit fire. The ground shook in it's terrible rage. The Princess began to pace back and forth in panic. "Sir Whines-a-lot! Whatever shall I do? A red, fire breathing dragon has invaded our kindgom!" cried Tess.

"Fear not fair Princess!" *parry* The Queen will surely save us!" said the Knight confidently. The Queen sprung into action. She grabbed the red dragon and marched it round and round the fields surrounding the castle. The red dragon bucked and spit smoke as it tried to escape the Queen. Eventually the red dragon surrendered to the Queen and stopped it's evil rampage. She then trapped the red dragon in a small dungeon at the far edge of the kingdom.

Magically, the fields were returned to their lush, green state. Once again Princess Tess and Sir Whines-a-lot could frolic and roll in the sunshine....

In a Strange Land

Tess followed Sir Whines-a-lot around the Castle. There were so many new things to see. She thought she’d died and gone to the Rainbow Bridge when she saw a room that was filled with gleaming silver bowls full of the freshest water and heaped with good smelling food.

Their tour through the castle ended in a room with a platform in front of a huge window overlooking the Kingdom. She followed the Knight up the ramp and looked out. She could see ice and snow. The wind was blowing the trees surrounding the castle, yet she was warm and dry inside.

She set off on her own, leaving Sir Whines-a-lot on the platform. As she was exploring, she stepped on something soft < SQUEAK! > “Help! We’re under attack! Run for your life!” she barked as she ran to the safety of her chamber.

Sir Whines-a-lot searched the castle, looking for the Princess. When he found her hiding, she told him what had happened. “Fear not, Fair Princess! *parry* Those are the Court Jesters. They won’t hurt you. They’re actually a lot of fun, especially the squirrels. Come with me Tess. It is time to go see the Queen.”

They made their way into the grand chamber of the Queen. Tess followed Sir Whines-a-lot up the ramp to her throne. There, they nestled in the soft blankets across her lap. The Queen fed them morsels of dried chicken and liver as she scratched their bellies and rubbed their ears. Tess pressed closer to the Queen. She had never felt such luxury in all her life.....

In a land, far, far away.....

Tess awoke to find herself in a strange place. It was very different from the dungeon where she'd been imprisoned in the frozen North. She folded her paws and rubbed her eyes and ears as she had every morning. When you're locked away, a dog's got to learn to do things for themself like ear rubs. She got up from the bed slowly, stretched out and scratched her belly across the floor.

Suddenly, there was a noise outside the door. "I hear footsteps approaching on dogback!" said Tess. Right before her very eyes appeared the silliest thing she'd ever seen. Her first instinct was to turn and flee. She didn't have a chance to run away. It barked, "Howl-dy Tess! *poke* Welcome to Casa de S[SMOKE! This is Tess' diary. It's a Cinderella Fairy Tail kind of story, not a Cow*poke* Tail like your! OK Tess, let's try this again.]

Suddenly, there as a noise outside the door. "I hear footsteps approaching on dogback!" said Tess. Right before her very eyes appeared a shining white Knight. Her first instinct was to turn and flee. She didn't have a chance to run. He barked, "Howl-thee fair Princess!" *parry* *looks at Mom for approval* "Welcome thee to Castle Pokerton. Fear not, for I, Sir Whines-a-lot, am here to protect you!"

"Princess?" questioned Tess as she looked about the room to see if there was someotherpup the Knight was barking at.

"Yes. Princess Tess. I am at your service!" said Sir Whines-a-lot with a bow-wow. "I'm sure there are many things here in the Kingdom that are new to you. Come with me and I will show you around." He led the Princess out of her chamber..........

Is anypuppy out there? My name is Tess Trueheart and I'm a red dapple Eenie Weenie. I am at my new furever home which someotherweenie calls Casa de Smoke. Let me tell you a True Tail. Once upon a time.....

I was born June 13, 2004 in the State of Misery. I was kept at a puppymill with over 30 otherweenies until December 9, 2006. The nice people from Hearts United for Animals came in and rescued all of us Eenie Weenies from a life of repeated breeding and abuse. Once at their shelter, they bathed us, spayed us, gave us plenty of good food and water, and lots of love.

After I was there for about a month and a half, I got a visit from a crazy lady and another Eenie Weenie. We all went in a room in the back to play and check each other out. The otherweenie let me play with his Squeaky Squirrels and the lady patted me and scratched my ears. After a little while, they said they were leaving. Next thing you know, I'm getting a bath! When I was dry, they put a coat on me to go outside. I got bundled up in a crate full of warm fluffy blankets. Off we went away from the shelter!

We went on a grand adventure, visiting lots of otherdogs and people in Nebraska and Kansas. My new little brother, Smoke, barked about that in his diary. I wasn't too sure what was going on, but I had fun meeting everyone and everywoof.

After a couple of days visiting, we got in a truck and drove for a really long time. It got warmer and warmer outside. The lady was really excited when we crossed a big river. She said, "Welcome to Texas, Tess! This is your new home!" We drove a bit more and pretty soon we were at a nice little house called Casa de Smoke! There was no snow or ice anywhere!

This is where the real story begins.....

Tess, deep in the heart of Texas
