Arrival Story:
My husband and I started off with one dog, Lucy our Spaniel and shortly one by one we added to our family. When we moved into our own house with lots of surrounding property and a huge fenced yard (1 acre) we decided to help some unwanted dogs and cats. We both work from home (Husband owns computer business) and I am a professional Groomer. We love our home and don't mind spending most time here instead of going on vaccations several times a year. The animals are our life. We don't have children and therefore have a lot of time to spend with the animals. If you want to know more about each animal please go to their individual page and read more about them. We are not a recognised rescue organisation but more a private rescue that takes in dogs and cats that have either behavor or medical problems and therefore would be hard to adopt out! My entire life I have dreamed of being able to do what we are doing right now. Each animal is unique and has its own individual needs. It is so rewarding to see them blossom and live a happy life. Some animals are already old and are now allowed to live out their golden years without having to worry about abondonment. We have a super nutritional expert who we can consult 24/7 (thanks Roberta) and also a wonderful Vet-team! Thanks a lot. We do all our grooming, training and exercising ourselves and are proud to say that we have a psychologically balanced PACK. Thanks Cesar Millan!

Bio:
We are huge fans of Cesar Millan and other dog behaviorists. Our daily routine (after everybody went out for their first pee and poo) starts with a long walk. RAIN-SNOW or SUNSHINE. We are not as fortunate as Cesar Millan who lives in sunny L.A. We live in Canada where we have extremes of -30Celsius and also +30Celsius. We have to deal with pesty insects and humidity. But we rarely have Tornados or Floods or other Catastrophic Desasters. Coming from Europe (Austria) my husband and I are used to the kind of weather we have now. The difference is that we have way more own property in Canada and we LOVE it! After a long walk ~ 1hour (sometimes more when the little dogs don't want to go early in the morning because of the weather) we prepare their breakfast. After breakfast there is quiet time, because I don't want the dogs to play and roll around and maybe upset their full stomaches! Around midday we go into the fenced area and play with balls and other toys. Depending on the weather and the insects we stay out up to 1 hour or longer. The dogs have a doggy door anyways and can access the yard whenever they please! After playtime we often feed them bones to exercise their jaws and clean their teeth. During those quiet times my husband and I are able to look after our jobs. I usually groom 2 dogs until 2pm and sometimes 1 or 2 later in the afternoon. Either way, my dogs come first and with 10 dogs there are always dogs that need grooming of some sort themselves!!! While I groom I also look after our cats who have 24/7 access to my grooming salon. This way I see each cat at least 2-3 times a day (catdoor to the outside in my salon) and can make sure they are healthy and also get their cuddle times! The evenings usually start out loud and get calmer as the day comes to an end. We play, we work on tricks, we cuddle, there are plenty of treats that go around as well. There is never a dull moment at THE DOMESTIC CARNIVORE. This is just a rough overview of what goes on here. We also have several certified Therapy dogs that acompany us to the local Nursing Home on a regular basis. Each day is different and never boring. We think of our dogs as a balanced pack and would love to wellcome Cesar Millan here to show him how we live. We only have 10 dogs and not 30-40, but we try to live after the same principas as Cesar Millan and we do believe that only an Exercised dog is a happy dog. You can give a dog as much love and affection as you want, if you never take your dog for a walk you are just keeping a prisoner in your home!!!! Think about it! Cheers, The Team of THE DOMESTIC CARNIVORE
