For several months my dog would yelp and cry out in pain when she got excited. It seemed at first to be behavioral because two vet visits left us wondering what was really wrong. She would act perfectly fine when being examined. Then we would return home and for what seemed to be no reason she would just start crying out in pain again.
The pain worsened to the point that I knew something was wrong, so I asked the vet for one more recheck. This time I insisted on an x-ray. After being told that Lilah's neck pain was a "slipped disc", and there is no such thing, and that there was nothing that could be done, a little research on the web led me to finding a cure for a herniated disc with Neurosurgeon Christina Vitale at Veterinary Surgical Associates (VSA) in Dublin, CA.
This amazing and thorough Vet got down on the floor and tested Lilah's reflexes and reactions and then sent us for an MRI. The next day she reviewed the MRI results with me and suggested we proceed with surgery. She explained it in detail to me; how she was going to go in through the front of the neck and clean up where the disc had shredded and was pushing against her spinal cord - a 2 hour procedure. The expected recovery rate is 95%.
After the surgery, she called me twice to let me know Lilah's progress. Lilah is doing well and it is expected she will be able to travel home tomorrow. She will be in a crate for a month, only let out to be held or to go to the bathroom and eat. That is the amount of time it will take for the herniated disc to grow new tissue and repair itself.
Looking forward to getting my sweet dog back in my care.

We went through 5 states this summer; Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. All of us were in the red pickup with Meik driving and me sitting on Lavon's lap. The dumb kitten they got crawled all over the place, annoying us dogs, but Lavon seemed to like it. She got scratched by the cat a lot, something I would never do to her, but eventually the cat layed down and went to sleep, giving us all a little peace. Hannah and Zach were in the back seat with Keaton and they took up most of the seat. I'm glad I didn't have to ride with them. Lavon's lap is way more comfortable.
Meik took us for walks about 5 times each day. That was cool. He picked up our poop, something he doesn't do at home; that's Keaton's job. We saw all kinds of lakes and some wierd animals, like Buffalo and Elk. I could have scared them if Lavon would have let me out of the truck! We were in Jackson Hole, Cody, and Yellowstone and we had a lot of fun.
They bought a new trailer right before we got home and I liked it a lot better. The bed is a lot higher but Lavon helped me up so I could sleep with her. Of course that cat woke us all up every morning really early, but I didn't mind cuz I was waiting to go for a walk anyway. No doggie door like at home! Have to wait on the humans to take us out when we're on vacation.
Anyway, we're going camping again Labor Day weekend and I can't wait!
