It's true, Wade has cancer. He went to the vet to have his back and hips X-rayed because we thought they were giving him trouble but what they found was a tumor on his spleen. He had surgery last Wednesday to remove the spleen and tumor, which they thought was the size of a baseball, but it turned out to be so huge, it filled the equivalent of a 13 x 9 pan, it had to be cut into pieces to be put into specimen containers for biopsy. The results came back and they aren't good, it's an aggressive sarcoma. According to the vet once the first tumor is found there is an 80% chance that the cancer has spread. There's no cure we've decided against chemo, all it will do is make him miserable for the short time he has left, his vet is in complete agreement with our decision. The next step will be X-rays on his chest next week to see if the cancer has spread to his lungs or around his heart and at that point we'll have a better time estimate.

Wade had a lot of health problems because of neglect when he was rescued and we've worked hard of the last 8 years to monitor these problems to make sure they didn't become an issue for him as he got older. But this is something we never expected and didn't see coming, we are just devastated.

He has touched so many people in his life and the neighborhood kids all know and love him. Don't know how much time we have left and based on the last two weeks it's not going to be nearly enough, but in the meantime he will be one spoiled little boy.
