Birthday: August 1st 2006 Arrival Story: The Kansas 6 Pack, Luna, Lea, Lana, Leta, Lexi and Lena: We six girls have had quite a journey, after living the first couple of months of our life in a backyard in Kansas, we were taken to a basement for a few days, then to another backyard, and were headed for the shelter. Some Dogsters heard of our story, saw our sweet faces, and decided they had to help us and find us forever homes of our own. Everyone involved was spread out all over the USA, but they got transport together, Takoda's Mom came and took us all the way from Kansas to Iowa. We stayed with Takoda's family for a few days, and Takoda's Mom wanted to foster Lexi and Lena until she could find them forever homes. Then Mellow's Mom and Vincent's Mom met Takoda's Mom in Illinois and brought Luna, Lea, Leta and Lana to Ohio, and we stayed a few days with Mellow's Mom. Zoe's Mom, found a no-kill shelter in New Jersey that wanted to find Lana and Lea a new home, but the Dogster Moms decided that they didn't want any of us going to a shelter, and will find homes for everyone. So MANY Dogsters helped with planning, raising funds, support, and so many generous Dogsters donated money so we could finally get our first shots, and to help us on our way. You can read more about us all and see lots more pictures HERE.
As of February 15, 2007, everyone has been adopted. Luna and Lea were adopted together first by a friend of Mellow's Mom, Mellow's Mom failed as a foster Mom and adopted Lana, now Lainie, Leta was adopted by her foster Mom, another failed foster Mom, and Takoda's Mom really failed, she adopted both Lexi, now Loki, and Lena! Forums Motto: Awwwww
Luna and Lea went to their new home last night, and their new daddy is totally smitten. They were a little reserved at first, but by this morning are much more comfortable. They have a safe home with a daddy who loves them, plenty of good food, a lot of new toys, even a kitty to play with, they'll have a full life with a lot of love, attention, care and new experiences. From neglect in a backyard to a basement where they couldn't get outside to another backyard of mud, long car rides, two home changes, and look where they've finally ended up. I cried and cried when they left, and find myself crying again this morning. Mellow, Caelen and I will be seeing plenty of them, so I don't think the crying comes from missing them anymore, or hurt at having to let them go. We all helped these six beautiful, helpless puppies, and knowing that at least two are now permanently safe, four will soon be, I'm happy for Luna and Lea, hopeful for Lana, Leta, Lexi and Lena, and devastated that we can't perform the same kind of miracle for all the homeless and abused dogs. So I guess I'm crying from happiness, relief, sadness and hopelessness all at once.
After today, like Lexi and Lena, Leta and Lana will have their own pages to help find them new homes, and their pictures will slowly disappear from this page, which will become all about Luna and Lea and told from their perspective, I'm bowing out, will return only once when I put together a list of all those wonderful Dogsters who helped make this happen, they deserve tribute.
All four girls have come a really long way since arriving Tuesday night. They had advanced while with Takoda's Mom, maybe set back a little by their long journey just to arrive at yet another strange place with strange humans and dogs. Their shyness is disappearing, and they've become much more adventurous and inquisitive about everything. They aren't bewildered by toys anymore and are learning how to play with them, they're all playing with Caelen to various degrees now, even with Mellow sometimes, although his main role remains as their "teacher", he lets them know when they're misbehaving, and either gives them a talking to or grabs them by the scruff and removes them. They recognize their name, are progressing in house training to an extent, and we're even working on "off" and "sit." They remain super affectionate and loveable, they just wiggle all over for pets and jump to give kisses.
