I had so much fun today!!! Mommy baked a special cake just for doggies, and she made liver brownies...yummm! And my friends Rhett and Molly came over just to play with me and share my yummy treats. We ate the cake and liver brownies. The humans had their own cake, too. It didn't look as good as mine, though. We ran around the backyard and had loads of fun. This was the best day. Mommy said she was afraid that it would rain, but there's no way it would rain and mess up MY party. I'm the Papillon Prince. After Rhett and Molly had to leave, Mommy brought over to see Deuce. Deuce's human has these odd creatures that live in the water. Mommy showed them to me. She said they are called Koi. I looked down at them, and they looked back up at me. Mommy wouldn't let me jump in and play with them. Well, I'm back home, and I'm tired. I'm going to lay down now.

Taking care of Mommy...

Hi, I haven’t written in a while. I have been busy taking care of my Mommy. She’s back at work now, but for a while she stayed at home, and I didn’t understand why. She explained to me that she wasn’t feeling well. She has been going to see doctors and having tests run. She said she has a pain in her tummy on the right side. I have been taking care of her by keeping her company and making her laugh. I love it when Mommy stays home with me but when she isn’t feeling well she can’t really play with me. She said that sometimes the pain is really bad. She sometimes sleeps a lot which she says is because of the medicine her doctor gave her. I really wish I could make my Mommy better, but she says I am doing a good job at keeping her mind off of the pain. That is an important job.
On a lighter note, Mommy says I have something called a “birthday” coming up soon. She says she is planning a party with other dogs and their humans. I don’t know what that means, but she says I will like it. I can’t wait to find out what a “birthday” is. Mommy says there will be yummy things to eat (for us doggies and for the humans) and fun games to play.

Busy couple of days...

I had a nice weekend. Mommy comes home early on Thursdays, and she takes me to the dog park. I really like going there. I get excited and start barking even before mommy gets the car parked. I am usually the smallest dog there, but it doesn’t matter. I let those big dogs know that I am the one in charge. I like to chase those big dogs to put them in their place. When they turn around and start chasing me, their humans put them in their place, too. They know that I am king of the dog park when I am there.
Normally, the next day after we go to the dog park, mommy has to go back to work, but this time she didn’t leave me. She stayed home! I like when she stays home because when they both leave, they close the bedroom door, and I can’t lie on the bed anymore. But when one of them stays home, I can stay on the bed. Mommy and I slept longer after her boyfriend left for his work. After mommy woke up, she was hungry. We got in the car and drove to a place called “IHOP.” When she parked the car, I tried to get out of my car seat to go with her, but she told me to “stay.” I had to wait until she got back. It took a little while, but when mommy did come back to the car, she had a bag with something in it that smelled very good. She put it on the floor of car in front of my seat. How can she put something that smells so wonderful out of my reach? I whined to let her know that this was not acceptable. She just kept telling me to be quiet. When we got home, mommy got whatever it was out of the bag and started eating it. It smelled so good; I got up in mommy’s lap to get a taste. Mommy told me “no,” and she put me on the floor next to her. I had to sit there quietly before she gave me a piece of what she was eating. It was so yummy. Mommy said it was “steak.” As long as I sit there nicely, I know mommy will give me some of her food. I have her very well trained. Anytime she eats anything, I always get a taste. That was a yummy breakfast. She also had pancakes and eggs.
Well, after we finished eating, mommy put on different clothes and we went for another ride in the car. I love riding in the car. When we would first go places in the car, I would sit in mommy’s lap, but after a while mommy got me that car seat. Now, I can’t sit in her lap anymore. But I can still see out the window and bark at anyone I see outside the car. Mommy tells me I am a good boy when I do that. When mommy finally stopped the car to take me out, we were at her friend Jenny’s house, and she has a big black dog named Molly. Mommy and Jenny sat in the backyard while Molly and I played. Then we went on a walk around the neighborhood. After the walk, mommy put me back in my car seat and we went to her mommy’s house. I played with Baby. After a while mommy took me to the dog park and her mommy and Baby came with us. I started barking and carrying on like I do when we get close to the dog park. Baby thought I was crazy. This was the first time Baby had come to the dog park. She was very nervous. I tried to get her to play, but she just stayed next to her mommy. We didn’t stay very long because Baby didn’t like it much. Mommy dropped off Baby and her mommy, and then we went home. I was so tired after that long day; I drank water from my bowl, and then took a nap. Mommy tries to get me to drink water at the dog park, but I won’t do it. How can she expect me to drink from a bowl that other dogs have drunk from? She even pours out the water and puts new water in it, but I still won’t drink it. She just doesn’t understand that I will only drink out of my bowl.

Catching up on my life...

Okay, time to tell you a little bit more about me to get y’all caught up with my life since I just decided to start writing this diary thing.
My mommy brings me to this place she calls PETsMART. I call it doggie heaven! The first time we went there, I wasn’t too sure of the place, but once I realized that it is full of yummy treats and great toys, I decided that it was a wonderful place. One of the times my mommy brought me there, she let me pick out my new bed. She put several different ones on the floor and let me choose which one I wanted. I rolled around in each of them until I found the one that was just right. I let mommy know by not wanting to get out of it once I chose that one. She put the others back on the shelf, and she put mine in the cart. She started pushing the cart and expected me to walk happily on my leash, but I let her know that I did not like that. Mommy picked me up and put me in the cart. I sat comfy in the bed as she pushed me around the store. That’s just as it should be. All those carts should have beds in them. They can’t possibly expect someone as wonderful as me to sit in that big, metal thing without something comfortable to sit on! Anyhow, other than that, I like going to PETsMART. Mommy always gets me something yummy to eat or something fun to play with. As far as that new bed goes, I don’t really lay in it anymore. I like to flip it over and chew on the tag on the bottom. Mommy fusses at me when I do that and says, "The bed is not a toy." I know that. But that tag has to be dealt with. If something has a tag on it, I am there to chew it off. Mommy doesn’t understand why, but I know you other Papillons understand.
One day a couple of months ago, mommy brought me someplace she called “Stephanie’s”. I did not know what this place was, but after we got there and she opened the car door, there were all these amazing smells! Stephanie is one of mommy’s friends, and this person must really love animals because she has a lot of them. She has two big dogs. One is named Kita. He is an Akita, and he didn’t like me very much. I just couldn’t understand why not. So, I kept going over to him to try to make friends, but he would always growl or snap at me. Her other dog is named Rhett, and he is an Anatolian Shepherd. He was much nicer. He would just lay there and let me jump on him. She also has a cat which I never actually saw, but I knew she had one because I could smell him. They let me go in the backyard, and wow! I had never smelled such smells before. Mommy showed me this animal that she called a “goat.” It was attached to the ground so it couldn’t get away. It must have been bad at one time and was being punished. I had fun making it chase me until it got to the end of its tie out. It would keep trying to ram me with these pointy things on its head. They must be some sort of infection, and it was trying to get rid of it by giving it to me. No way! The only things I want on my head are my ears! Stephanie also had these creatures called “chickens” which were kept in a “coop.” These things smelled so much like food that I couldn’t help but try to get at them!
After we left Stephanie’s, mommy brought me back home and said I had to have something called a “bath.” I didn’t know what that was. I followed mommy into the bathroom, and she ran some water into the bathtub. She picked me up and put me into this bathtub thing. She got me all wet and put this stuff on me that got all foamy. I tried to squirm away, but mommy said I would feel better once this was done. She put this stuff all over me and then used the water to take it off of me. That wasn’t the worst of it. Next, mommy used this thing that looked like a big gun that blew warm air at me. She said it was to dry me off. I let her know I did not like it one bit. After mommy said I was all dry, she put me down, and I ran like a mad-man all around the living room. She calls it the “zoomies.” I run zoomies after each time mommy gives me a bath. Mommy thinks it’s cute and funny. I like making mommy laugh.

Let's get aquainted.

I decided I should start a diary of my own. I browsed through some of the other diaries and thought, “I can do that.” Well, I guess, I should start off by telling you about myself. I am a Papillon (pronounced “Pappy-on"). That is a French word that means “butterfly” in English. My breed is called that because of our ears and along with the coloring on our face, it is supposed to resemble a butterfly with its wings open. Anyhow, that is WHAT I am; now, on to WHO I am.
I was born on September 6, 2006. Up until November 5, 2006, I lived with my fur-mom. On that particular day, I met my now human-mom. She came to look at me and my brother. She was looking over my brother who was bigger than me and much noisier. She would pet him and pick him up, but he still wouldn’t stop whining. The man that was with her (her boyfriend) seemed to prefer me over my brother because I was being quiet, and he liked that I was smaller. It seemed, though, that he was not the one making the choice. I figured I needed to put on the charm if I wanted her to pick me. She eventually looked at me, petted me, and picked me up. I was very quiet, not all whiney like my brother. The lady put me back down, and she and her boyfriend left. I was put back in the crate with my brother. After a while, she came back later that day with some money, and she brought me home with her. Yippee!! I told my brother whining was not the way to get a home. From that day on, I have been England’s Li’l Cap’n Nemo, but she just calls me “Nemo.”
At my new home, there is me, my mom, her boyfriend, the old man, and the cat. The old man is my mom’s boyfriend’s dad. He lives in the back room, and for some reason, I am not supposed to go in there since he keeps his back door open most of the time. Sometimes I will sneak back there when the old man opens his bedroom door and run out the back door. Whoo-hoo! Freedom! My mommy gets so upset when I do that, but all I do is run around the house to the front door to be let back in.
I have been living with my new family for five months now. Much has happened since my mommy brought me to live with her…some good and some bad. The bad things were when she brought me to this place where this man looked at me and stuck me with this really sharp, pointy thing. They said it was to make me feel better, but I wasn’t feeling sick. She brought me back there a few weeks after that for the man to do the same thing AGAIN! She said I wouldn’t have to get stuck again for a whole year.
One of the better things that have happened was meeting my mommy’s mommy. She really likes me, and she has a dog, too. Her dog is named “Baby”, and she is a Weimaraner. I had not seen a dog so big before. And her ears hang down. They don’t stand up like mine. I like to run up to her and jump up to her face. I try to get her to play chase, but she doesn’t seem to understand the concept. Big dogs must be dumb.
