Endings and new beginnings

2008 was a really crazy year for our family. We had a lot of ups and downs. Georgie was hospitalized at the beginning of 2008, then my human sister was hospitalized 3 times. But then my human sister had a baby boy. So that was really good. But then my human brother got in an accident and crossed the Rainbow Bridge. So the mood around here has been pretty strange for a pup. Georgie has been pretty healthy although she still has her problems with dizziness. And Finn & Winston are working with a trainer now, so they're having to listen to mommy. But I just keep being a good girl and being cute and mom & dad hug me a lot. Yesterday we all went to the groomer. We got new scarves and smelled really good. We get even more hugs & kisses when we've been groomed.

It's rough being the cute one in the family, there are a lot of expectations. They're always asking me to do tricks and speak and such. But if it gets me a treat and a hug, hey it's ok with me.

Well, 2009 is going to bring a lot of visitors. That's good because then mom & dad will be home a lot more. And visitors always let me sit on their lap and give me treats. It looks like 2009 is going to be a good year!

hugs,
Molly

Long day...

As soon as mom woke up and dressed, she grabbed me and ran for the car. I thought she was taking me out for breakfast, seeing as I didn't get any!!! But no, we went for a ride. When we arrived at the destination of her choice, we were at the vet's office!!! With only a sniff at the grass, she herded me inside where they apparently were waiting for me. After a hug and a kiss, mom left me!!!

What transpired next is a bit of a mystery since the doc used some anesthesia on me. But I came out with sparkly teeth, de-haired inner ears treated with medicine, a pedicure, and some stitches on my side. It turns out the non healing lump on my side was a benign type tumor that mom & vet decided needed to go. The most difficult part was that mom didn't pick me up until 5:30 at night!!! Apparently, the plan was to bring Winston in for his annual visit just before my pick-up time. But as it happens, they changed Winston's appointment to 4:30 pm, then Dr. Porte was running late. By the time they were ready for me, I was wide awake and starving! I whined all of the way home. But once I arrived and everyone sniffed me, I was finally given some food. Then some pain medicine and back to sleep.

I hope you learned mom to only take one of us in a time. No dog should have to put up with not eating for almost 24 hours!

Giving Thanks

For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free" --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

Thank you to all my STAFU and Schnauzers Rule & personal pals who sent me birthday greetings and presents! You are all pawsome! Wish you could've all come over for a party. First we all went to the spa for our beauty treatment. Of course the groomer gave me lots of loving! We had a pretty good time with treats, toys (which the boys tried to steal of course), walks, lots of belly rubs and loving. We had the traditional Birthday HOWLing led by mom - she starts singing and ends with a howl and then we all join in! Aaarrrroooooooooooo!!!

Thanks again everyone. You make a middle aged gal happy.

Thank you to everyone for your support and love, pmails, candles and gifts. You are all so generous and we are so thankful for your friendship. It is comforting when you are going through what our family is right now. But it doesn't take a tragedy to appreciate all of you every day. Again, thank you.

We'll likely be offline for several days but hope to get back in the future. Everyone hug your babies for us and take care of each other.

Pets Prayer

Dear Lord:
Please watch over our humans, they are so weak. They have no claws or teeth, they can't run fast or fly away, neither can they burrow or build a nest in which to be safe. They smell bad, do strange things that aren't altogether intelligent, have no real ability to communicate with us, although we are able to figure out what they want.

Lord, grant us the ability to watch over our humans, care for them, cheer them when they are down, make them laugh, smile, and shower them with our love. We pray that we can bring a little joy into their otherwise mundane existence.

Lord, please let them know that when we insist on getting attention, it is so we can check their emotional well being and boost their morale When we pester them for different foods, toys, etc., it's so they will learn to see us in ways they hadn't considered, bringing them closer and back into the fold ... which they are part of but keep forgetting about.

They expect us to know what they want even though sometimes they don't know what we want. Some of them really try and we know they love us but some of them are so dumb yet our love for them remains intensely unfaltering.

Lord, when we die, please make sure to send us ahead to where ever our humans are going to be, so we can pave the way for them, vouch for them and be there for them when they too die..

Please allow us to continue proving the humans are worth the effort. You placed these humans in dominion over us, but you charged us with the task of caring for them and showing them your love every day, through us.

God bless these mere mortal humans, they know not that we are their guardian angels sent in love to task them so that they may grow to be part of your plan.

Amen,
Molly

Dogster Diary of the Day and remembering Duffy.

Last week on Memorial Day, I was chosen as dogster's diary of the day. Wow - what an honor. I met some great new pals and lots of friends congratulated me. It made me & mom really happy. But more important was that the message about the K9s at war got out there. We're REALLY happy about that!

A couple of days later, I found out that my cousin, Duffy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He is a 13-1/2 year old Westhighland Terrier that lived with my Uncle & Aunt and he is a brother to one of my pups Maggie. Duffy started acting poorly so they took him to the vet. They found a tumor that took up the entire abdominal cavity that compromised some of the internal organs. At his age he might not have survived the surgery that would only have been exploratory not curative. Because of his pain, everyone decided it would be best to let him cross the bridge. We know he's with Boomer & Annie and lots of other pups from our family. But we know his family misses him a lot. Duffy, you can run free now. We all love you, sweet angel! WE will always remember you, and we'll meet up again.

Remember our Troops & K9s

I would like to take a moment on this Memorial Day weekend to thank and think about our present and past troops who have served our country.

Also our K9s who are serving in our current war. There is a great website honoring them, and if you click on the "Operation Military Care" link you can see how to help them. One of our dogsters mothers contacted the website admin & felt it was a valuable effort.
