Arrival Story: We had been looking for either a Rottie pup or AB pup for Zelda to play with, but didn't want to pay. We wanted to rescue but weren't having any luck. I was scheduled for surgery on 02/23/06 and needed to take Zelda to the vet the night before to be looked at, since I knew I wouldn't be able to do it after, and in walks this guy that I used to go to high school with and he had the cutest puppy with him. I asked what kind it was and he said purebred American Bulldog (8 weeks old). He immediately began playing with Zelda. He said that he found this guy getting ready to throw this little pup in the trash bin at his apartment building. He said he nipped too much and was aggressive. Everyone was shocked. Turns out that the previous own that was going to throw him away, also broke his tail in four places. I'd be aggressive too. So he said he was turning the dog over. I went home and spoke to my fiance and after some thought, we decided to rescue him. The clinic named him Porter, but we changed it to Zoro.
We asked the vet to do a thorough check to see if he was healthy. We couldn't risk him tranferring anything to Zelda. Come to find out, Zoro indeed had a parasite known as Coccidia. The same one Zelda had when we first got her. What's the chances right? Weird! Nevertheless, we had the vet quarantine him for 10 days and then we brought him home. Not good from the beginning. Zelda was bullying him and he would attack her. Oh, just a mess in our house for months. We finally got some training. Zoro still hasn't taken to it fully and lacks far behind Zelda's skills, but he's getting there. He's got his own traits that we love. Like his 2 1/2 inch underbite. Too cute! And he's a very gentle kisser!

In July it will be one year and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it. I still miss Zoro as much as I did the day we had to let him go. He is still the light of my eye and the butterflies I see outside. I know my baby is watching over me but it doesn't make it any easier.
I miss you so much Zoro!
