Arrival Story:
My story, by my mom:
I could see Bisou and another dog in their backyard from the second story of my old house. I quickly realized they were not particularly well cared for and I volunteered to do little things like bathe and groom them (which was desperately needed, her ears were matted open to the sides of her head) or have them over for playdates with my dogs etc. Sadly, her companion dog died and her people didn't even notice for quite some time. At this point I was wringing my hands because the children loved the dogs but were only around 6 and 4 years old and I hated for them to lose her completely (as I feel strongly that growing up with pets is beneficial). So ...playdates became overnights, then some consecutive nights...The final straw came when, on a day she was back with her original family, there was a tornado reported on the ground, everyone had been told to seek shelter etc. and I could see her terrified, spinning in circles in her yard. I went over to get her and as I was walking back to my house the man of the house drove up to his home. I said " you have to take shelter. There's a tornado on the ground. I was just taking her inside." He says to me "there's a table around the side of the house she could get under." I sort of just looked at him in amazement for a second and high tailed back to my house, with the dog. I simply couldn't do it anymore. After the storm I told him that I would like to take her to the vet and make sure she was well cared and that in order to do that I think it would be best if she became part of my family....the guy was happy to be rid of her and the wife came by later with actual AKC papers for her! They paid several hundred dollars for her and then stuck her in a back yard and neglected her for almost 7 years! She wasn't even fixed! She had heartworms so bad the vet wasn't at all sure she would survive the treatment. Happily, she did and she became my special fancy baby!
