Arrival Story:
I had been looking to adopt a senior pittie for quite a while. They don't come along too often in the Vancouver (BC) area, so I was searching down in California too, in preparation for a trip I was planning to make down there. Senior pitties were constantly being listed down in the LA shelters, so I was keeping an eye on their website. One day I saw J's picture posted on their website, and she just had such a doll of a face. Unfortuneately I wasn't going to be heading down that way for another month, and dogs typically get only a few days in the LA shelter system. Day after day I'd go back to her pic, and she was still listed. I finally started heading down towards California, but once in CA, her info was removed from the website. I thought that I was too late... The next day her picture reappeared and I got cautiously excited, only to see it get removed again (this happened 2 or 3 times over a week long period). I called the shelter, but the only info they could give me was that she was 14 and that her family surrendered her "because she was too old." I headed towards LA, hoping that she was still alive by the time I reached there. I got to the shelter at 8 am, when it openned, with her number in hand. The aco I talked too knew which dog I was talking about and got me to follow him to her kennel... but she wasn't there. He searched the rest of the kennels, then told me to wait there. He found J in the euth room. That morning the kennel attendent noticed that her face was swollen up, thought that she had an absessed tooth, and since they can't provide medical care she was about to be euth'd. She instantly started licking my face despite the fact that her mouth was so swollen. I adopted her right there, but they wouldn't release her without her being spayed first. She almost died twice during her spay operation, and barely made it through. But she is a fighter and she rallied. Turns out what they thought was an absessed tooth was an infected dog bite. J somehow made it out alive after spending a month in animal control, and I ended up with the sweetest dog I've ever met.

J is the nicest lil dog I've ever met. She manages to change everybodies' minds about pit bulls. One kiss from her and you are smitten.
