Arrival Story:
I had just lost my husky/shepherd mix named Micki. I got him at the age of 5 weeks old from a shelter. He was taken away from his mother too young, but I did wonderful with him and he was my best fried til the age of 14 when he had to be put to sleep on Valentines Day. I wanted another dog, and I wanted a Husky because Micki looked like he was full Alaskan Malamute. So I scoured the newspaper and the dogs that I saw just didn't spark with me. Then I proceeded to the local shelter near my home. I adored every dog that I saw because I am an avid animal lover. I walked through the kennel and when I came to the last kennel, these was Fred. He was the biggest dog there and so very red!! He was in a huge kennel by himself because he was the biggest and so darn cute. He has ears like the flying nun and looked like Scooby Doo. I filled out an application for him showing interest and for them to contact me first if anyone else was interested in him. I reallly had my heart set on another husky. Two weeks went by and a girl who volunteered at the shelter was going through the apps for the dogs and noticed mine for Fred and called me right away. Basically Fred "has his angel wings on" as she put it. He had been there a few months and was only a year old, but no one was adopting a big dog,......just small lap dogs. So after hearing that I told her on the phone that I would take him! Now he is my best boy and best buddy in the whole wide world!! I love him to death!

There was a trainer who went into the shelter to evaluate the dogs once a month. On Fred's kennel there was a sign which beared his name and it said "I am a people pleaser". This trainer said that if Fred had not been adopted that she was going to train him to be a dog to assist the handicapped. That is how keen and extremely intelligent this dog is. He is A german shepherd/golden retreiver mix.

Forums Motto:
He is my big love muffin!!

As you can read my entries, Fred was truly my BEST buddy in the whole world. No matter where I was, who I was with, I couldnt wait to come home to him. He was always with me, whether it be riding in the car, going for our long walks, or watching late night tv and having a snack. We'd go for a nightly ride in the country, and we'd stop for ice cream afterwards. Sadly, on August 21, 2010, my beloved soulmate of a dog had to be put to sleep. He had developed a few conditions during this past year, one being Spondylosis, which is trouble with his spine causing his rear legs to cross, and he was treated with acupuncture for dogs, and even an underwater treadmill. It al worked, but things began to pile up. He looked amazingly healthy, had a wonderful appetite, so he never showed signs of things going on inside him, right up to the end. It was the hardest, most difficult decision I ever had to make. I looked at my baby, my best friend, and he didnt look like he had to be put down, but xrays and other tests concluded otherwise. I has a special bond and conection to Fred, which I know I will never have again. I'll always love another dog, but he was that "Once in a life time" special boy who will never be forgotten. It has been 8 months, and I still cry endlessly. I had him cremated, and I have his remains, which were done individually, in a beautiful oak urn with a picture of him on it and a brass engraved plate. He was and is truly my angel from heaven. I have not gotten another dog yet. I almost feel as if I'm betraying him. His favorite toy and blanket are still on my backseat in my car. I miss him so very very much! I have such a hole in my heart. Is this normal to cry like this? I can't go by a pet aisle when in a store, I cry. If I go by places we used to go to, I lose it. I'm so sad without my buddy. He was here for me when no one else was. I love you my angel. Fred, I miss you more and more each passing day. It doesnt get easier, it gets harder. This Mother's Day is your birthday, and when I adopted you. Happy Birthday my Angel. Mommy loves you more than life and misses you something fierce. I'd give my arm to have you back in my life, to hold you, hug and get kisses from you. I love you. I hope you are at peace my baby, and romping around Rainbow Bridge. Til we meet again soon, I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU!

My Tail of Devotion for Fred

Fred is truly my best friend in the entire world. As much as I love my family and my fiancee, Fred is the only true one who can put a smile on my face no matter what.I could be having the worst day and he always makes me smile. He knows that I rescued him from life at the pound and that he now has the life he truly deserves, which is that of a prince. That is another nickname he has, "My Lil Prince" Fred knows HE RULES!!

We have a very special bond that no one or nothing could ever come between us. He will be lying on the couch on his back with his hind legs wide open and his paws over his head and he is the length of a full length couch. He is very tall with long legs and has the body and face of a shepherd but if he turns to the side he has the knobby point on top of his head which is that of a golden retreiver. He is a mix of both breeds. He gets his color from the retreiver side. He has a pink tongue with black spots which usually indicates Chow.

When I lie next to him he'll put his paw around my neck and give me the best kisses you could ask for. He even talks to you. He is very verbal and he grumbles when you say something he does not want to hear. No one will ever love you more than your pet. And believe me he knows how much he is loved by his mommy, and his grandparents and aunty. My fiancee is his absoloute favorite as well.

Fred is the dog that fits the bill perfectly. With his handsome stature and intelligence and easy going temperament........until he spots a cat...........hehe..............he is a great and loving dog to own. He is also a top notch watch dog and protector as well.

What can I say................I JUST LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
