Arrival Story: I lived in Munich Germany for 5 years and wanted a dog terribly but was never in the right living situation for one. Eventually, I decided to return to the States. Of course the first thing on my agenda was to get a dog from the pound. The day before I flew back I was riding the subway in Munich and sitting across from these two little girls (around six years) who were talking about what a pretty name "Mia" was. I'd never heard the name before and decided to give it to my dog as soon as I got one. So back I flew to Austin, Texas and woke up the next day - somewhat bleary eyed from jetlag - but drove excitedly to the pound where I looked for and found Mia: the truest companion I've ever had the honor of having.

I'm SOOOOOOOO happy I finally got the lampshade off my head. I've been wearing it for almost 12 days now and I was so fed up with it. When mom took it off my tail shot straight up in the air and I shook my head and pranced around like the free happy dog I am now! Let me tell you, wearing a lampshade on your head is NO FUN! But now I'm FRREEEEEE! Mom is also happy to see me looking normal again. My ear is pretty well healed up but mom is keeping me near her to make sure I don't scratch it. It itches a little but not as bad as it used to. There's still a little bit of a scab but mom says I'm not allowed to scratch it off. She hopes she didn't take it off too early but I think she never should've put it on in the first place...
I have to wear a lamp shade collar right now and I really hate it! It's so I can't scratch my bum ear. But I go to the vet tomorrow and hopefully I get my stitch out and the lampshade collar off! The trip back was a pain because mom wouldn't even take the lampshade collar off in the car. She said one good scratch would rip my ear open again and she had to look at the road and couldn't be supervising my hindquarters. Now we're back in Edgewood, where it's much hotter especially with this dumb collar on. But mom leaves me in the house when she goes during the day so I stay nice and cool, but I don't get to run around with the other dogs and guard the yard. Mom says I'm guarding the house, which is just as important. She won't leave Emir in the house alone and uncrated because she says he'd chew up her books like he did last time she tried. But I think he deserves another chance. She might leave Sepp in with me today, but she doesn't really want to do that because Emir needs a babysitter and it's either me or Sepperl.
I can't wait to go to the vet and find out if I can get this collar off!
Mom found a lump in my ear last night and called the vet. We went to see her this morning and she said I had a hematoma (s/p?) in my ear that needed to be punctured and drained and a drain tube sutured in. So she put me under and drained my ear. I was very good...but then again I was unconscious. But when I woke up mom was there and now she's giving me lots of TLC. The worst thing is that I only have ten days of vacation time where I can swim and now I can't swim for seven days! Mom says she won't throw sticks in the water for Emir cause that would be unfair for me to have to watch and not be able to go in and get them myself.
I'll mostly be glad when they take this pawful bandage off my head and I can swim again! Now I'm pooped from the vet and I'm snoring extra loud cause of the bandage. Hope I get well soon and can swim sooner!
