Arrival Story:
Duke was rescued by the West Feliciana Parish Humane Society. His mother was found along with a male B/T coonhound chained up in someone's back yard. Their owner had left over 2 months before with no one to feed them. Luckily a good samaritan knew the owner left, and came by everyday to feed the two big dogs (the owners only took the small ones). The nice lady noticed the mommy was pregnant. At that time she called the animal control again, and they picked up the mother and two puppies within a week or so after they were born. We saw Duke's profile on Petfinder.com, and went to see him. We fell in love with him at first sight. It took a while to get him because of his age, but we finally picked him up and took him home with us. We wouldn't trade him for anything in the world!

Getting Bigger...

Sorry I have been away from here for a while. But, I've been busy getting SO big! I now take up my WHOLE kennel, and an entire cushion on the couch all by myself!

I absolutely LOVE to play in the backyard, but Mommy gets frustrated that I like to dig. It seems there's something buried out there, and I just HAVE to find it. Mybig hole is about a foot & half deep, but there's something still deeper...

So, that's what I'm up to. Nothing but digging, playing with my boys and getting BIG!

Check back in a bit - gotta get my boys!

What's up with that?

I came home from the hospital weighing 6.25 pounds. Mommy weighed me today (2 weeks after coming home) at 14.6 pounds. Gee whiz! I have over doubled my weight! I am getting big really fast! I can barely fit on a couch cushion, without turning sideways.

Mommy says I have to go for a check-up on Monday and get my next shots. Shots really aren't that bad. I just don't like the cold feeling it gives me. But I don't even know they stick me. Guess its all that excess skin! Mommy is going to get them to microchip me so that if I ever get lost, someone knows who my Mommy is! How cool is that! I don't think I will ever wander too far from my Mommy, but it's nice to know that she is making sure someone can find my home for me.

It's breakfast time, so gotta run!

I'm a lot better now...

I'm home from the hospital now. The Vet says I will be just fine, and I am a real "trooper". I lost some weight while I was really sick. My mommy kept telling me I needed to hang in there for her. I didn't want to eat very much, because my tummy was really upset. She couldn't understand why I didn't want to eat. The night before I went to the hospital, she kept forcing me to eat peanut butter, and making me drink water out of a medicine dropper. I normally like peanut butter, but I wasn't very happy about eating it that night. Mommy had it ALL over her and even in her hair. I gave her such a fight. But, she said a prayer with me and put me to bed. The next morning I went to the Vet, who put me in the hospital to get antibiotics and IV fluids. Boy did that stuff make me feel better! I finally got strong enough to eat on my own again, and stopped having diahrrea. I feel SO much better now. I am still on medicine for coccidia. Can I tell you, coccidia is just pure evil! It makes you feel SO bad. But, now with the antibiotics I got, I think I can fight it off better. The Vet said my immune system wasn't all that great because of the way I was malnurished for a while. I still have to play catch up with my weight. But, I weighed 10 pounds yesterday! Mommy is so proud of me!

I actually feel good enough now to play with my boys!

Mommy said I am doing pretty good with housebreaking. As long as she watches me, and asks me if I need to go outside, I run to the door and let her know to take me outside. But, sometimes I get too busy playing with my boys to think about that, and have an accident.

Mommy told Daddy just the other day how smart I was! Mommy gives such great treats when she says "Sit" and all I have to do is sit down! Imagine that! I have her so trained! We are working on "Down" now, everyday.

Well, gotta run to play with my boys!
