Just returned from the vet's office. He gave me some valium, so I think I'll take a little nap while mom updates all my pals on our latest battle- seizures!
Cali had a small seizure yesterday around 7:00pm. (She has not had a seizure in over 8-9 years!) Because she recouped in 15-20 minutes, went on to eat and pee& poo normally, I just "watched" her until bedtime. Everything seemed normal! She fell asleep like normal , so I felt like things were OK. At 4:00am this morning, I felt Cali stir around on the bed. Figuring she was ready to get up to potty, I turned on the light to see her slowly go into a full blown grand mal seizure lasting 7-8 minutes! I was terrified! Because of her age, I really thought her heart would not make it! By the time I rushed to the Emergency Hospital, things had stablized. The vet there said that because of Cali's medical history, it would be best if her regular vet evaluated her present condition and plan a course of action. We stayed at the the Emergency hospital 2 additional hours in case the seizures returned. By 8:ooam, I had Cali at her vegular vet. After examing her and taking in all of my reported info, Dr. Shrum thought it best to put Cali on some Valium to relax her and to bring the seizure threshold down. He discussed Canine Vestibular disease and said that Cali may have this also. It can appear suddenly and leave just as quickly, almost like vertigo in humans. Botttom line is ----having had such a hard seizure, Cali needs more time to relax and recoup BEFORE we try to determine further issues and/ or treatments. Right now, we are both tired and need some rest.
Will keep everyone posted!
Please, say a prayer for my sweet baby girl!
