Hi everybody!

I know I don't write in my diary much but this is a very special entry. So many times I have seen what the power of prayer can do in this wonderful place we call Dogster. I don't think I've ever asked for prayers before but we have a furiend in need of all the prayers we can get.

Many of you know Mom transports rescue pups on weekends. It's something she enjoys very much getting these furbabies to a safe and loving place. They are pulled from rescues, puppy mills and fosters going to furever homes and new rescues and fosters. It's very rewarding to know these babies have been saved.

This past weekend Mom participated in a transport for some precious Cocker Spaniels. She picked up 2 in Bowling Green, Ky and brought them back here to Nashville and met up with 2 more Cockers. Mom picked up Brandi and Jack (Mad Jack has he has come to be known) and met up with Huffy a precious blind Cocker and Lance. They then started their journey together to a wonderful rescue - Cocker Haven in Teague, TX. Every transport Mom does she falls hard for them but one in particular has stolen her heart. Brandi is a very sweet girl about 10 years old. She is 30-40 pounds overweight. Yes, I said 30-40 pounds... That's twice the size she should be. She could barely walk, her skin is in pretty bad condition and she couldn't get in and out of the cars without help. A lot of help. Brandi was actually scheduled to transport the week before but she wasn't healthy enuff. All drivers including Mom saw that Brandi wasn't feeling well and they have all been worried about her and contacting the foster mom and other drivers. Today we received this email from FM Maggie on Brandi's condition...

" Folks, this will be short and I will try to write more later if I can...have been up most of the night and I am about all in. My vet got back in town late yesterday afternoon and we had him meet us at the clinic and took Miss Brandi straight on in. She had not eaten anything since arriving including baked chicken, beef stew broth, and everything human or canine I could think of to offer her.... When I would put small bites actually in her mouth, she would gag and force it back out... She had also quit drinking and I had begun syringing Pedialite down her every hour... As soon as he got in we took her down to the clinic and he promptly put her on IV fluids and pulled blood for tests. Her BUN (liver enzymes) are out the roof .... they should top out at 150 max and hers are 1750! He kept her there most of the night and morning to rehydrate her, gave her an antibiotic shots for secondary infections, and sent her home as he has NO room there and she was terribly upset with the kennel environment. I am syringing Pedialyte down her every hour, water available also but the Pedialyte has to be syringed whether she drinks or not, 250 mg Cephalexin twice a day as well as Zenaquin (cannot remember right now if that is n or l on the end of the word and too tired to go look!), and chicken baby food every four hours watered down in a syringe. She is back to passing almost pure blood in her stool (which is really just bloody fluid).... He gave her some shots to bolster her strength as well as some nourishment in the IV with the fluids and basically the next 24-48 hours will decide whether she makes it or not...Dr. Bennett will never put one down unless he has exhausted ALL possibilities and feels death is inevitable. Right now he puts her chances to make it at 75/25 - not her favor but the fact that she battled back last week tells him she is still trying and not ready to go yet... I hope he is right as I feel so sorry for her as she just lays there and watches me with those sad brown eyes... She did not come all this way to die and we are doing everything we can... She is in the den by herself watching the flowers out the partially pulled blinds and does not seem to be in any pain and her blood pressure was not elevated as though she were in pain. PLEASE pray for her as there is basicly nothing left to be done for her except to keep some food down her for strength, keep her hydrated, and hope the Cephalexin and Zenaquin will give her enough of a boost to let her pull through one more time. She has been such a sweet and patient girl despite my having to break my promise to her and put her back in the SUV AGAIN to transport her back and forth to the vet. Not sure we will ever get her near a car again if she pulls through all this......Again, please keep her in your prayers, You will have to reach me via e mail as I am shutting off the phone so Ron can rest (he hurt his back yesterday loading and unloading Miss Brandi and I have given him some pain meds) and also to avoid stirring up the dogs so Brandi can rest. .... Paws Forever - Maggie"

I thought where in the world are there this much prayer for our Brandi? So here I am asking for the POWER OF THE PAW for this sweet girl. I'm sorry if this is long and I really hope you finished reading it and before bed tonight maybe send out a little prayer for this helpless soul. If there is any place on Earth that can do it, Dogster can.

Luv always,
Maggie

Update: 4:08 a.m. Thursday 06/26/08

My heart is broken. Brandi went to the Bridge at 10:45 last night.

I gave Brandi a 4cc syringe of chicken broth and four 5 cc syringes of Pedialyte at about 10:45 tonight and went back to the den an hour later, one last time, to give her some more Pedialyte and spend a few moments with her again. She would lay her head in your hand and just watch you with her eyes as you talked to her and she looked so sad and tired.....This time when I came in the den she was lying there with a large puddle of blood behind her and her little head did not lift to turn and look.... When I checked her, her little soul had already left for the Bridge... Again a thank you goes to all who made it possible for her to spend her final days on a soft bed with a heavy fleece quilt around her, chicken soup to eat, and gentle hands to hold and caress her.... I only wish there had been more that could have been done but I do know she is free of pain now and slender and graceful as she prances around the Bridge up in the meadows of clouds. Go with God, Brandi. You were loved for the short time we were graced with your presence.... Paws Forever - Maggie

G*d speed my sweet furiend... ♥
