A nose from the past…

If my tail were long enough it would be entwined around both rear legs; and if I could blush I would be fire-bush red; and if I could speak properly I would express how sad I am that my Mum has neglected Dogster for such a long time… She, of course, is totally embarrassed, as she should be. Mutters something about wishing she had never set up a separate email account for Dogster because she would always forget to check it, and now that she finalllllly taking the time to do so discovered that yahoo has deactivated it & deleted everything!!!! So after checking the Dogster account, and updating the correct email there, she deigns to sit & write a few words on my behalf. Truly, beyond inexcusable and embarrassing!!!

I have missed all my friends far too much and am very very cross with Mum. She has a lot to make up for it. We will try since we have sooooooooooo many zealies to distribute! At least that will be fun!! I hope to take a few minutes and check the pages of our old buddies…

By way of explanation, we have spent several months in Rome on & off, keeping very busy and apparently under cover. Doubt that explains anything… I know it is too much to expect my old buddies to say hello with open paws. My desire is simply to say hello to them & to you!! Mum says she that to be fair with all my buddies takes time… Whattttevah!!

I hope your Easter, Christmas, and everything in between have been grand, that this finds you and all in great shape & good health, and that Mum will make the effort to re-connect more regularly now. Truth be told, Mum has kept a little bit in touch with Mimi’s Mum on Facebook, which my Mum joined a few months ago. But now I am a little worried because Mimi’s Mum has suddenly disappeared from there, and knowing her health has its ups & downs, I wonder if anyone knows anything…

My biggest hugs to all of you with my evermore wiggly wiggle-waggs,

Oliver Oliviero!

Because we planned a trip to the island of Malta in the Mediterrannean, and since it follows the rigid rules of domestic animals entering the UK, Mum made me endure the discomfort of that dreaded 'Praziquantel' shot!! Howwww could she! I whimpered & even cried in advance... but she still made me... Thank goodness it was not quite as absolutely dreadful as the first time... I guess the hugs afterwards were sort of worth it - the trip certainly was!

The island's recorded history dates back at least seven thousand years!! Amazing towns, architecture, landscapes, sea, land, rocks, sheep & goats, and a camelleon I met 'up close & personal' (see the photo?)! Where we stayed, surrounded by rare and gorgeous greenery, reigned two beautiful & gracious Dalmations, and a fat, lumpy, matriarchal type who took it upon herself to mother me, following me everywhere and even foiling devious plots of fast sneaks into areas off limits to me!!! All three females, I must admit they were really sweet, and we became fast friends. Even the white Scotty that joined us later, reputedly nasty & ornery, could not have been more ladylike with me!

We saw lots of the island, sniffed the good sea air, walked, chatted and ate marvellous food. We met various people whom Mum knew, since she had been there many times in the past.

And then she left me.... She said she cried, couldn't sleep, but was reassured that the lady with whom I stayed was reliable, sweet, and very caring, all of which is true. But she still left me... to go to Lourdes on a pilgrimage.

I have now forgiven her, of course. My resolve to put on my worst pout & offer her a cold shoulder dissolved the moment I heard her voice, which means our reunion was truly delicious, joyous, and beyond relieving!!!

We are now back in Rome, following the previous routine in pleasant weather, which works very well for me!!

I even got over the diarrhea that hit me the last day!! Phew!

'Later... with wiggle-waggs!

Holy Moly, Wowzers, Good grieflings,- Jeeeeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*running, wiggle-wagging, jumping, panting, stopping to cover face with embarrassment...blush blush, wiggle-wagging, waving paw….*

OMD, omd!!!!!!!! First of all SORRRRRYYYYYY to everybuddy for having basically fallen off the face of the earth!! I know I have missed woofdays of sweet pals, have not thanked anybuddy yet for the lovely rosettes & special gifts for MY woofday, have not written, communicated, or even popped in on Dogster!! I am embarrassed & truly sorry because I miss everyone!!!!! It's alllll Mum's fault, she freely admits it with regret & even shame (victory!!). Pleeeeease forgive us.

Briefly, we landed in Rome on Feb 21st, and it has been non-stop since... for Mum, anyway, though I happpily tag along. After all, I am aware that either I run into my cousin Birillo, other pups along the way, or I get to check the floors of coffe-shops ('Bar') for tasty crumbs, meet people who squeak at me & finger my face a lot, or run in a safe part of the beautiful Villa Borghese. The last time, Sunday, there were soooooooo many children chasing after meeee that despite my fun Mum was concerned for my safety, so we moved on. Mum & I have been busy, busy, busy, sometimes doing stuff at home, often out, but the funnest time was going to England last month!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, let's be clear, getting the dreaded ''Praziquantel'' shot against ticks & tape worm as required by the Brits was simply horrid & darned uncomfortable!! Ouchie!! But beside that, the rest was grand. Actually... getting there was no picnic either! No planes or trains take doggies in the cabin to the UK, so Mum & I flew to Paris (ohhh-la-la!), rented a car, drove to Calais and onto the Eurotunnel (passed pet control like a charm despite Mum's fears), parked the car in Folkestone, & took the train into London!!! Phew! Fab time in London staying with friends overlooking the Thames who own the cutest black English Cocker Spaniel girl, 'Maxi', walked to Piccadilly Circus & other fun spots, and enjoyed ourselves immensely seeing some of Mum's old friends as well. The Queen, was not available when we stopped in at Buckingham Palace,, but we got word that she agreed to Knight officially me 'Sir Toliver', so we'll go back for sure! (heee-heee!)

After four nights we took another train to Newcastle to visit my 'sis' & her hubby!! We had a divine time with them for three whole days, even if it was rather chilly & windy, but the sun shone most of the time and all was absolutely marvellous! We love their beautiful house & the garden she created. Their cats (2), the size of panthers, were at first taken aback by my appearance, unsure of what they beheld. Eventually the black&white one (Ansel) became blazé about it all, preferring to sleep, while the greyish one (Marvin) hung around very curious, sometimes braving some form of rapprochement! Poor baby was nervous enough, though, that he threw up a couple of times. I had no clue I possess such powers!!!

The return trip was truly a challenge for all that we covered in two sessions on the way up we did in one day, including changing stations in London, barely making our connection, getting to the car park for the rental, as well as driving from Calais to Paris in nasty wind, rain & dreaded fog! Our guardian angels worked hard that day! We left my sis's house at 6:45 a.m., and arrived home in Rome at 11:50 p.m!!! Phew! For a trip that normally takes about two & a half hours!!

The weather here in Rome has generally been wonderful, although we've had two bouts of 'cold', which really... 50°sF compared to Milwaukee where the snow keeps falling & the temps rarely rise above 35°F hardly seems worthy of complaint. Of course then I feel cold... still waiting for the rest of my fur to grow in on my chest, tum, &...!! I prefer it when I can wallow in sunny mid 60°s to low 70°s!!

Easter Sunday we went to another cousin's in a lovely spot just outside of Rome. After noon Mass, we enjoyed a splendid lunch (I can vouch that it was delectable). They have 2 Jacks I did not see, & one Neapolitan Mastiff I did see, but this time I was shy, so I did not meet him to sniff. Mum thought he was magnificent... humpf! I did, though, when he wasn't around, get to indulge in my super-fast speedy-gonzalez barely-touch-the-ground runs for a few minutes in between the downpours!

Mum let me lick her ice cream cone (barely!!!) on my woofday two days ago, to the horror of some passers-by, as well as the chuckling & smiles of others. I also got a couple of new toys, some fab treats, & a dish of ravioli for pooches I can't wait to sink my teethies into!!!

Lots more going on, but now we must run. I will thank all who have been so generous with their St. Patty's Day, Easter, & woofday wishes, but in the meantime here is a grand heartfelt tail-wiggle-wagging THANK YOU!!!!!

Double-time wiggle-waggs,

Oliver.

A New Year, a fresh beginning!

What a fantastic time our family have experienced of late! Actually, the entire period from September to now has provided one adventure after another, some memorable, some truly forgettable.

Not wanting to tire anypup's eyes over lengthy narratives, Mum has decided to help me condense the prose to simple points of interest.

1. Our 2nd three-month sojourn in Rome of 2007 was fantastic. Mum spent much time organising her itty-bitty flat for remodelling sometime next year. In between hours of hard effort, we walked literally miles through this beatiful city, especially the park at Villa Borghese that we dearly enjoy. Mum says I have developed nicely & solidly! Yeay! I mean, after all, I am a guy... even if certain important clues were removed earlier in the year! We particularly cherish time spent with our 86 year old Aunt, and our fun cousins. Birillo, my Jack Russell cuz upstairs & I have really developed a very close friendship.

2. I can confirm that, as a now seasoned traveller, airplanes, trains, cars, & bicycles are some of my favourite activities, although sitting on the tarmac for an hour and a half before an eight hour flight is not my idea of efficiency. However, sleep I can handle, so that works out all right in the end. Plus, it would appear that my bladder has a rare retaining ability!

3. One of our excursions was to the hilltop town of Civita di Bagnoregio. The silence that surrounds this centuries old place becomes more poignant upon hearing the intermittent jingling of distant cow bells, the beying of sheep, and the occasional barking of a far-away doggie. The echoes of the valleys accentuated my exuberant panting as I ran to chase the ball in one of the little gardens. Very cool!

4. The visits from both my 'sisters' and 'brother-in-law', one in September, the other in November, were fabulous!!! My what a great time we enjoyed! And wow... was I ever spoilt & pampered!

5. Our return to the US was welcomed by my 'sis' who picked us up, and 17 inches of snow! Mum & I almost turned around to return to Rome!

6. The few days leading up to my other 'sis' and her hubby's arrival for Christmas were a wee bit frenzied, but really fun. I luv seeing Mum running around like a chick with her head cut off!

7. Christmas was absolutely grand with our little family all together!!! Oh my, how truly lovely, homey, cozy, lovey, fun, and plain happy! Mum beamed, I wiggle-wagged, and we all will remember it for a long, long time. Santa was most generous as well.

We are filled with gratitude for all our many splendid blessings, for our friends on Dogster, and for the promise of more blessings in the future.

We hope you too have much for which to be grateful!

Happy New Year! Love, God bless, and wiggle-waggs!

Oliver 'Oliviero'

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! What a blessed pup I am! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY DOGSTER (& NOT!) PUPPALS!! Thank you, dear God, for all our blessings!

I've had the pleasure of being tagged by Tobie, Primo, & Taco! This is a Thanksgiving Tag. The rules are simple...each pup that is tagged has to leave a diary entry listing 7 things they are thankful for. Then off they go to tag 7 of their pals...letting them know they've been tagged via pmail or rosette. Make sure you let everyone know who you tagged and who tagged you for fun!

These are some of the many many things for which I am Thankful! I don't know how to keep it at only 7!!!

1. A fabulously loving Mum, two sweet adorable ‘sisters’ , one
cool ‘brother-in-law’, and several kitties in my family!
2. A fantastic Vet who cured my cough!
3. A splendid community of friends on Dogster!
4. My travels with Mum, and feeling loved, spoiled, cozy!
5. All the fun pups I meet everywhere!
6. Being healthy, thank God, young, curious and enthusiastic.
7. Having a safe, warm home, and for all pups who also do, wishing it for all creatures!
8. Speaking Italian, sniffing & treading on history, savouring tiny tastes of wonderful food, and our lonnnnnnnng walks in the beautiful park Villa Borghese!

A September to remember...

The days pass too fast, Mum complains, and the diary entries we excitedly wish to record go untyped... Too much to do, so little time...

Glorious period, though! For one thing, my 'sister' Libby & her hubby arrived from the UK for twelve days of holiday! They spent three of them in Venice for her birthday on the 19th, and another three on a very ancient hilltop town near Orvieto. Inbetween these excursions Mum & I have relished our time with them. My sis gave me two new toys, and covered me with kisses!!! I luv my toys, even if one of them, the red barbell, caused me some serious mortification, since it was labeled as appropriate for gerbils, baby bunnies, and guinnea pigs!!!!!!!!!!!!! The indignity!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, I have overcome that embarrassment by attacking it with zeal and vigour! The rubber chicken is now hoarse...

Mum & I have already travelled by train twice. Minor delays the first time, but each was a day trip to the same hilltop town we love. Imagine an ancient place where time's erosion has left the nub of a tiny metropolis of Etruscan origins, restored in the middle ages. Total year-round residents number seven, that's s-e-v-e-n... Many others live in the larger town below and climb the steep bridge and path on a daily basis. Tourists also are fairly numerous, many Italian, as they are aware and curious about this famous spot.

We enjoy our occasional exchanges with our buddies on Dogster, and Mum is working hard to work out the purchase of a new computer & printer. She has these indecisions which drive me crazyyyy!!!!

We have made contact with Toby (http://www.dogster.com/dogs/259094), who lives in Rome, and very much hope to meet up with him soon!!! In which case, we will take pics and post them!!

I've played with my Jack Russell Terrier cousin, who lives upstairs, several times now! We have such a good time together!

Anyway, lot's more, but that's it for now.

Abbracci e scodinzoloni da Roma (hugs with huge wiggle-waggs from Rome!)!!

Oliver 'Oliviero'.

My First Birthday ~ UNFORGETTABLE!!!

Gosh - this is sooooo overdue! My First Birthday was April 2nd of this year. Since Mum and I would be in Rome by then, my unbelievable pawsome buddies in the MPMM Birthday Club (MPMM = Min Pin Manchester Mania... I'm an honourary member!) kindly sent their gifts in advance...

No words can describe the loot that arrived, the kindness of each pup, the fantasy, generosity, the sweetness of the wishes, the cards, the love... I positively glowed for days!! Overwhelming does not begin to define it!!!! Staggering comes closer... My main photo helps to put it in some perspective.

Although at the time I sent thank you Rosettes & Stars, please everypup know that my gratitude is undiminished today as it was then!!! During that period I was unable to post pics & videos because of technical problems with my computer in Rome, thus had to find one available at the internet cafe in the heart of Rome, and the time to use it. Once we returned, we fell so far behind trying to catch up after three months away that here we are, soon to leave again, finally posting photos & videos!!! My apologies to anyone who might feel I have shown little enthusiasm. The videos will plead my case to the contrary, as I still cherish each gift with earnest and keen playfulness, salivation, comfort, and appreciation!! I particularly relish the spirit of friendship!

So I post the photos & videos now on the page, but also include links here since Dogster allow me only a couple before going to the album. The videos are in the order that we opened the presents. OMD WHAT A COMPLETE THRILL!!!! I hope this works...

OMD!!! I've been Luv-tagged!!!

OMD! OMD! I've been LUV-tagged by Lexy, Daisy, and Eddie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wowowowa!!!! Wowzers! Yipppee with giddy wiggle-waggs!!! :D

This is the new game on Dogster called Luv Tag. You are to choose 3 special pups that mean a lot to you and explain why. You're not supposed to choose a dog that has already tagged you.

But I am having THE hardest time deciding because I am the luckiest and most blessed pup with sooooooo many wonnnnderful pals!!! Arghhh!! Deciding is definitely difficult!!!!!!!! Eddie is such a special, close buddy, generous, caring, and supportive, and FUN... darn it he is fast though - beating me to the keyboard, even after being badly wounded by that horrid boxer! Lexy has always been a good, warm friend, kind in every way, with a very giving heart. Daisy is simply a lovey sweetheart who always shows consideration and thoughtfulness to all her buddies, including me!!

However, the first is a no-brainer for me... MIMI !! My princess, my Valentine!! She is THE most beeeautiful, adorable, sweet, affectionate, kindest of buddies and sweethearts! Her Mum & family have showered me (and my Mum too!!) with so many thoughtful gifts, including the lovely video you see on my page called "An Ocean Size Love...". Always supportive and charming, she has made me blush on many an occasion, and wiggle-wagg like there is no tomorrow! She's a great dancer too! Now she will fulfill her most important role - as bridesmaid at her very own Mum's wedding! I wish I could be there!

Maui is simply one amazing dog who inspires anyone who knows her! She brings HOPE (Animal Assisted Crisis Response dog and high complex therapy dog) to countless souls; she is zealous about defending Rottweilers and other 'dangerous' breeds; she has received lots of well-earned recognition for her volunteer work including the "President's Gold Award"; and STILL finds time to show affection and interest in her Dogster buddies - including me!! What a star!!!

Rocky truly has a heart of gold! He has his Dogster pals constantly in mind, is hugely thoughtful, always alerting his buddies when somepup needs extra support, encouragement, or congrats! Plus he has been my biggest cheerleader from the time I met him!!

These special pups I thank with all my heart for being my friends!! It saddens me that we are limited to three because there are so many others I would luv to highlight!!!!

Wiggle-waggs,

Oliver.

TAG!!!

WOOOOHOOOO!! Howww exciting! I've been tagged FOUR TIMES all the way in Rome! Tooo cool indeed! Sorry it took a mo to do my part, but here goes!

TAG!!
facts
Here are the rules:

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary!!!

1. I am the littlest doggie a lot of people have ever seen. I am also the most blessed with love always around me!

2. One 'jewel' is in evidence, the other discreetly hidden, except that Mum says I am indiscreet all the time! I cannnn't help it!!! (Mum, why are you talking about this??!) When we return there is a threat of having to give up my adornment!

3. I love to travel, and behave quite well, even for the long trips.

4. I am the hugest lover on the face of this earth! I love meeting all living creatures, love to snuggle, be held - esp. during our walks when there are lots of distracted rushing shoes and the cobblestones are too distant or there is broken glass around. I am extreeeeemly happy when people, dogs, cats, and children let me wiggle-wagg all around them. They smile a lot!

5. My bladder seems to be more suitable for a much larger pup, seeing as I can hold 'it' for a very long time if I prefer to wait for our peregrination rather than use my potty pad.

6. I weigh 4.9 lbs, am officially called a Toy Rat Terrier, therefore...

7. I am NOT a Chihuahua!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pups I will tag, although I would love to do soooo many:

Mimi (although she is busy bridesmaiding!)

Eddie Spaghetti

Tobie

Gibbon

Gussie Finknottle

Doolin Kingsley

Rocky

Endo

Have fun, everypup! Ciao-ciao!

Mum talked to my desperately sad 'sis' in America the night before last... her beloved princess cat Fritzie has gone 'to the bridge' at 15 years of age. We wish we could be with her at this really tough time! Awww sweet sweet Fritzie... we love you, and miss you! And dear Sis Caroline, we hug you so hugely and lovingly from Rome... To Fritzie we wish a happy reunion with the beloved and much missed Clyde & Tillie.

:( xooxoox God bless you sweetheart.
