This is the hardest entry I have ever had to make. Hathor was put down on May 26, 2009. She had severe arthritis, and we hated to see her in so much pain. I love her so much.

Storm, Storm, Storm

Dog, it's been a long time since I wrote in my journal. I just wanted to give a bark out about a new word I learned. Storm, storm, storm. I'm not sure what it means, but when I hear it three times, I am to run as fast as I can to the storm shelter. Mom and dad open the door and I go to my special area.

Sometimes it gets really loud in the shelter. Last month, it got so loud, it sounded like a train in the distance. Mom and dad got on the floor next to us, so I didn't get too scared. After the noise went away and the sirens stopped going off, we all went in the yard. There were chunks of ice and lots of water all over (and not just in the pond).

I'm glad we have storm, storm, storm. The whole pack gets to cuddle in a dry, safe place.

I get my sutures out tomorrow!

Finally, I get my sutures out tomorrow morning. Dad said I still have to wait for the suture holes to heal over before he will let me in the pond but at least I can itch.

Mommy and Daddy took in some stray humans last fall for two months. One of them gave birth to a baby boy yesterday 24 hours after her water broke and labor started. It sounded like that was really painful, so I'm glad I'm fixed.

Besides, I have enough mothering to do with Sia, Gus, Bastet, Michaleu, and Mom and Dad. I try hard to keep everyone in line, but sometimes that gets me trouble. Sia and Gus don't necessarily like to be "fetched."

My first entry!

A week ago my daddy took me the doctor (Gasp! They weighed me in front of everyone in the waiting room!). Dad told me I was a good mother to my canine siblings (Sia and Gus) and feline friends (Bastet and Michaleau), so I didn't need any babies of my own. Surgery was not fun, and I was so glad to see Daddy in the waiting room when I was done. Mommy was there too.

Anyway, New Years Eve was really exciting. Mommy and Daddy cuddled on the couch with Sia, Gus, and Bastet. I got to lay in my favorite spot on the floor next to Daddy (I love it when he reaches down to scratch my itches or give me hugs). We stayed up really, really late.

Daddy took all of us Doggies for a midnight walk, then let us in the bedroom to find our beds while he went somewhere else. I get to sleep on the floor next to Daddy's side of the bed. Mommy came in and turned on the electric blanket, then because it was so cold, she turned up the heat for her side.

I smelled something funny, so I followed my nose to the foot of the bed. The smell was coming from the blanket. Mommy asked me what I was doing because I normally am such a good girl and stay on my bed next to Daddy. The blanket started smoking (Yucky smell) lots.

Mommy yelled, "Fire! Fire! Fire!" Sia, Gus, and I lined up and walked calmly, but briskly from the room. Daddy tossed Mommy the phone and told her to get all of us dogs and cats out. Then Daddy grabbed a bright red cylinder and scrambled into the bedroom.

Mommy grabbed Bastet and Michaleau, opened the door and said, "Kennel." I ran to the kennel and sat by my door. Mommy was on the phone while still holding the two cats. After she let me in the kennel, she put the cats in the car.

Daddy was still in the house, but I could see him across the pond opening up windows and propping doors open. Then I heard LOTS of sirens. Sia hid in the kennel. Soon, BIG trucks with bright, flashing lights came up our long driveway. We had company!
