My name is Jodie, im 12 years old and I am my family's "outdoor dog". There used to be two of us outdoor dogs here, but my best buddy Petie died last year in July. We done everything together. We played, we hunted, we chased cars, we barked together, we ate together, we slept together. Petie was a big ol' stinky dog, but I didnt care one little bit. I still adored him, I still loved him, heck I even still groomed him! I live on an acre and a half in Washington. Ive guarded this yard for years, if thats what you want to call it. Im not really a guard dog cuz im too much of a sweetie to hurt anybody. I love my yard alot...there are lots of places for me to explore but I havent been doing much of that lately because im getting on in years and ive got some arthritis. Mostly I just lay around and sleep. I get a kick outta watching all the bunnies that inhabit our yard too. When it snows or it gets really cold outside my mommy lets me come inside and lay by the fire. That makes me really happy. If my brother Stuie was a little bit more pleasant and a little less curious, mom would let me in all the time. She says it's not really him she doesnt trust, its me! She says im old and set in my ways and she's afraid I might snap at Stuie and then he in turn might snap at me and she doesnt want to see either of us get hurt. So we are content just staring at each other thru the screen door. In the old days I used to wander down our long driveway and go visit other dog friends, but I stopped doing that about 3 years ago. Now I NEVER leave my yard. I guess I feel safe here. My son Cashy was hit by a truck and killed out there, and the man that hit him didnt even stop! Just as well I stay put. Im a nice girl and welcome all to be pals with me! Guess thats all for now. Ill write again soon after I go get my hair cut and my toenails trimmed.
