Arrival Story:
He was just a ball of black fur when I saw him at the Huntsville Humane Society....only 6 weeks old. When this dog grew up, he looked just like a black bear.

Bio:
Reilly and Chelsie were a team for 14 years. One would chew the wood fence and the other would pull the board so they could gain access to run. I rec'd many calls of them found together in the neighborhood. Had to appear in court over them. Reilly also chewed up the metal on a car ($300 worth of damage) and chewed up a drain spout halfway up. He would dig the deepest holes and all you would see is his butt sticking out. He was stubborn but the sweetest chow. The groomers and vet fell in love with him. I had to move to Hawaii and, at the last minute, made the decision not to move him. He had severe arthritis and cataracts. The flight and the quarantine would be too much for him. I found him a farm and I'm sure by now he has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. He lived with me in AL, OK, GA, CA, and NC.

Thinking lots of my Reilly

These past few days I've been thinking about Reilly - my precious Reilly. Chelsie and him were such good friends. I rememberg them both laying for me in the bed awaiting my return when I came home. They also slept with me and I miss them so very much. Reilly became much closer to me once Chelsie left for the Rainbow Bridge. His personality of a kind and gentle soul really came out. I never knew his age was slowing him down due to his arthritis and cataracts until I moved into an upstairs apt. He was just my rolly-polly Reilly...full of black thick hair...looking like a teddy bear.

When he was 13 yrs old, he fractured his leg. The vet, who also loved Reilly,
put a paddle on his leg to set it. It was so funny to watch Reilly battle with the paddle. His leg healed soon.

I had a choice in life of either trying to take Reilly to Hawaii with me or finding him a new home. I just could never put him in a shelter or put him down. Having to put Chelsie down was TOO overwhelming for me. We went through all the shots ready for him to transport with me. In the final analysis,
the practical me came through and I found him a farm with all types of animals on it to spend his last days. I could not even say goodbye to him when I dropped him off (although I said goodbye with him alone earlier) for it would have killed me. I could never get myself to call and check on him for I would have been devastated to learn if anything happened to him. Boy, do I miss my Reilly!

Poem

"Sorrow fills a barren space; you close your eyes and see my face and think of times I made you laugh, the love we shared, the bond we had, the special way I needed you-the friendship shared by just we two. The day's too quiet, the world seems older, the wind blows now a little colder. You gaze into the empty air and look for me, but I'm not there-I'm in heaven and I watch you, and I see the world around you too. I see little souls wearing fur, souls who bark and souls who purr born unwanted and unloved- I see all this and more above- I watch them suffer, I see them cry, I see them lost, I watch them die. I see unwanted thousands born- and when they die, nobody mourns. These little souls wearing fur (Some who bark and some who purr) are castaways who- unlike me- will never know love or security. A few short months they starve and roam. Or caged in shelters- nobody takes home. They're special too (furballs of pleasure), filled with love and each one, a treasure. My pain and suffering came to an end, so don't cry for me, my person, my friend. But think of the living- those souls with fur (some who bark and some who purr)- And though our bond can't be broken apart, make room for another in your home and your heart. "

Reilly would be so happy to see all the pup pals he has now. He was such a mellow doggie and would have liked you all. Thank you!
