She was found freezing cold under a hedge 5 days before Christmas. Her rescuer decided to let her spend Christmas with him before going to the shelter, and a good job he did because it looks like it will be her last. She is obviously old, very skinny, he teeth are rotten to the core and if she wasn't dying from cancer they would all have to be removed. The shelter are keeping her for 7 days to allow owners a chance to claim her back, however even if they did, staff would try to convince them to let her go. The poor girl is in agony. She has untill the 2nd of January.
Christmas always seems to be a tradic time for the shelter, and this year it's been worse than ever...with the loss of the guard dog, Bayden, some very moody customers and lots of long term residents still looking for homes (Tyra the Boxer X will have been there a year on new year's day).
Christmas day itself didn't go too badly, there were no calls about stray puppies or other similar Christmas related events. All the dogs were bought a stuffed bone, a sausage and a toy each they all got to unwrap themselves which they really enjoyed. Roxy the Rottie X was especially good at unwrapping her toy...but then decided playing with the paper was more fun than they toy itself!
The worst part now mum says is sitting around and waiting for the January puppy influx.
On a brighter note, Harry and I had a great Christmas. Mum bought us both a new bed each (which of course Harry was scared of because, god forbid...it had sides!), and Harry got a new collar too (mum never stops buying collars for that kid).
