It's been 14 years, and I am just writing to let you know that our little Samantha went to the bridge yesterday. Our hearts are broken and tears will not stop.

Samantha had diabetes for about 5 years, and went blind shortly after. Even still she enjoyed life, being outdoors...and laying in the sun. Even though she could not keep track of new lawn ornaments in the neighborhood, she still enjoyed all the smells and greeted everyone with loads of puppy love. She was always a goof ball... and made everyone laugh all the time.

Sunday evening we noticed that she did not have much interest in food. Monday morning her glucose readings were high and she did not want to eat anything at all (which was her favorite thing to do). At 3PM, our vet called to see how the girls(Samantha and Megan) were doing and I said she was not eating, so we took her in that afternoon. They ran blood tests, and did xrays. When they first put her on the xray table she stopped breathing but was able to revive her. Her blood work showed a glucose reading of 800+! Our vet went over her xray with us and she suspected that Samantha had cancer in her stomach and elsewhere in her abdomen. Liver was extremely enlarged (she was recently put on medications to bring her liver enzymes down) Her heart was very enlarged and the vet suspected that the "fluid" in the sac was blood, and the reason she was so pale. The liver, heart were pushing up against her lungs and that is why she was having a hard time breathing. We wanted her to be free of pain and suffering, so we let her cross over the bridge.

She will live on in our hearts and memories and one day the pain will be replaced by only the best memories of the 14 years that she was with us. And we will always love her...
