ADOPT 2011 CONTEST

Abraham Lincoln once said “that some achieve great success is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.”

Who would have thought that a small beagle pup whose days were numbered would go on to affect so many lives. Mike was found at three months old wandering the streets of a large New Jersey city. Picked up by dog control and taken to the Newark Humane Society shelter, Mike (then called Happy by the shelter) sat for days. It seemed that no one in the large city was interested in a small three colored pup, but rather in larger, more intimidating dogs that could help them protect their homes and property.

With only a few days left for Mike, the shelter personnel, taken by his “happy” personality, worked hard to get him transferred to a suburban shelter where perhaps his odds of finding a furever home would be increased.

It was there that we found him, quite by chance. Our guess was that he was a Christmas present that turned out to be more work than the family bargained for. It was love at first sight for us and his soon to be fur sister. Mike lit up our lives and those of our neighbors from the very beginning.

So when we learned that at age five, Mike had a cancerous tumor in his leg, we were devastated. After traveling to three different specialists, the decision was made to amputate the leg to save him. Mike overcame this obstacle, with the same tenacity and sweet disposition with which he approached life. In fact it was a turning point.

We quickly learned that Mike’s unquenchable spirit was an inspiration to all around him. There is not a single person in our town that doesn’t know him and call out his name when he walks by.

Today at age 12, Mike works as a therapy dog with people in wheelchairs, those who have lost limbs and the many elderly who live in our town. He shows young children that being different is okay.

The fact is, this young pup, who was almost sentenced to death, makes a difference in the lives of all he meets. That’s the difference adoption CAN make.

Hiya pals...I've been tagged by three of my pals: Queen Trudy of Snoop Dogs, Louis The "Hot" Beagle and Yukon, one of the cutest pups you'll ever meet.
Rules are this:
I have to pick and list 10 fellow members and say a nice thing about them and about the pup who tagged me. I then send pmail or rosettes to the 10 pups I picked

Toby: Toby is my right paw and always will be. He is funny, kind and best of all a committed bachelor like me. He would do anything for you and for any four legger for that matter. That's just the kind of guy he is.

Sophia: Sophia is one of my very favorite beagles. She is just the way a beagley should be - fun, game for anything and funny as all get out. She cares about her fellow pups and always has a kind word and a bit of widom to share.

Bogey: Bogey is a great guy. He's soft spoken, considerate and has a heart of gold. My mom says he has one of the most handsome faces she has ever seen on a canine. I am proud to have Bogey as a friend.

Keeva: What can I say about Keeva? We go back a long time. Some call us the Bickersons, but I know deep down inside she is a good friend. Keeva has a big heart and a dry wit. I'm glad she's my pal even if she is a Red Sox fan.

CR - CR reminds me alot of my my brother Charlie, but he's a much better cook. He's full of the devil and alot of fun. We've known each other since I came on Dogster and as fellow Jersey boys, we always stick together.

Jimmy - They don't come much sweeter than Jimmy. The way he cares about his fellow dog is remarkable. He's smart, sharp and really funny. But best of all he's got a heart as big as the state of Texas.

Austin - Austin is the finest beagleweiler I have ever known. We've been through alot together. His smile is unforgettable and so is his spirit. He is one of the bravest pups I ever met. Someday I know we are gonna conquer the world.

Jill: Jill is sweeter than sugar. She is loivng and caring and one of the bestest friends a guy could ask for. Did I mention, she is as lovely as she is radiant? She never lets things get her down. No matter how rough the going gets, she is there for anypup who needs her.

Celeste: Celeste is smart and loves to have fun. She is always quick to reach out to her fellow dog and doesn't play favorites. She's supportive and a pup of her word - and super fast at the dog park. I am honored to have her as a friend.

Ellie Mae - Ellie Mae is the sis of my best friend Hayley. She's overcome alot in her short life and still continues to greet every day with a smile. She is smart as a whip, has a great sense of humor and is a pal to all she meets. I know her sis is very proud of her.

I've been LOVE Tagged!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been love tagged by four of the bestest pups in the world - Eddie Essig, Jill, Keeva and Jovi. It is a new Dogster tag game. You are Loved! You pick three Dogsters that you think are fantastic and tell a little about why! Don't forget to let them know how much they are loved with a p-mail, star or a rosette. By what I have read, you do not tag the one that tags you. I have sooooo many pals, it is really tough to pick, but since there can only be three, here they are …

Hayley (http://www.dogster.com/dogs/347799) There has never been a pup with a more beautiful smile who overcame so much. Hayley lost her first Dad, but was lucky enough to have a great Mom and a wonderful second Dad. A born ball player, she tore ACLs in both her back legs and recovered to run and jump again. She stood by her brother Bandit throughout his fight against lymphoma. A joy to her Mom and Dad and to everyone who knew her, she joined her brother Bandit at the Rainbow Bridge on October 22, 2006. Hayley I love you and miss you. But I will never forget you.

Toby (http://www.dogster.com/dogs/193547) Toby is one of my bestest friends in the whole world. He is the kind of friend everyone wishes they had. He can always make me laugh – even when I am feeling down. He is kind, caring and likes nothing better than having a good time. He is concerned about his fellow pups and never shy about stepping in when wrong is being done. The world would be a much better place if there were more Tobys in it. Toby, I love ya in a manly kinda way.

Fancy (http://www.dogster.com/dogs/361751) Fancy and her pack were some of my very first pals when I came to Dogster. Fancy has a great sense of humor and a very caring way about her. Hey she didn’t even get upset when I objected at her wedding. No matter what kind of troubles she has, she always has a kind word to say and is always willing to offer a helping hand or some friendly advice. Fancy is brave. She is battling mammary cancer and has gone through chemotherapy and several surgeries. She never complains. She never feels sorry for herself. She just keeps keeping on - as long as she can get her long walks in the park with Dad. Fancy, you are an inspiration and I love ya gal.

The Love of My Life is Gone

Yesterday I lost my best friend and the only momma I ever really knew. Roxanne was everything to me. She raised me from a little pup and cared for me like I was her own. She sat with me when I was just a little guy in my crate so I wouldn't be scared. She taught me how to do my good boys outside and how to properly gut a fuzzy new toy. She showed me how to open Christmas presents and never got mad when I took hers as well as my own. She protected me. She nursed me when I lost my leg to cancer. She was always there.

I miss her sooo much. I tried to help her. She was sick for so very long. I washed her ears and sat with her. I helped dad make her eat. I wish she could have been with me forever.

My mommy says that some day I will see her again, but for now I have to be brave and make her proud of me.

I want to thank all my dogster friends for their kind words and support. Even though it makes me sad it helps.
