Getting older has some good points. Obviously, I am a very wise dog. And my grey face fur and eyebrows certainly add a distinguished, mature beauty.
After more than a decade together, my mom and I have a pretty good routine together. I can give her a look and she knows if I am hungry, want a treat, or want to go outside. And she can give me a look and I know right away if she needs her ear kissed or her nose kissed! On our walks we take the same strides and walk in total synch with each other. I can tell by the way she says my name if she is going to bed, leaving for work, or just saying "hi" to me. We are a good fit.
We've been together since I was 1 and she was a teenager (19!). The day that we met she walked by my kennel at the Humane Society three times. Each time I raised by eyebrows at her and followed her with my gaze. Of course she couldn't resist and I found my forever home and my mom. And here we are, nearly 13 years later- now she's not a teenager but I am!
I've been having some trouble going up the stairs and standing up from a laying down position. Mom bought no-slip rugs and placed them all over the house to help me get traction and keep my balance. When I stumble going up the stairs mom winces, too. Aging isn't always easy (on dog or mom) and sometimes it isn't that graceful, either.
The graceful part came later, when I laid my head in mom's lap and she petted me while she talked to me about us, me and mom. And I gave her a big lickey kiss across her nose!
love,
Sophie
