Arrival Story: I applied to adopt a Border Collie that a friend of mine was fostering for a local rescue group. When my friend decided to keep it, I was asked if I was interested in looking at another dog that was available. I said yes and that's how I met Mallory. She'd been found wandering the streets, was picked up by animal control, and taken to TLAC as a stray. She had 3 days to live until a nice lady from a rescue group pulled her out. Several days later someone from the rescue group brought her over to my house to do a home visit and I fell in love. I signed papers for a trial period and began life with Mallory. Her true colors emerged over the next couple weeks. She was, as it turned out, a very high drive, very high energy dog. Not the sweet, submissive girl she appeared to be in the beginning. But by then I was in love and there was no way I was going to send her back. Determined to keep her, I enrolled us in group obedience class. I'd never had a Border Collie before, and Mallory's prior owners hadn't bothered to do anything with her. The trainer really helped me understand who Mallory was, and how hard I'd have to work to keep up with her.
We continue to learn new things together, as well as tackling issues from Mallory's past.

Bio: You may notice that I'm mostly white with black on my body. Yes, I'm a white Border Collie. Supposedly, this is undesirable in the world of Border Collies because sheep won't respect me when I herd them. Personally I think this is rubbish! I herd cats all the time; they don't seem to think there's anything wrong with me. Anyway, mom and dad say I'm beautiful. They especially love my dot. I live with 2 well trained humans, my best friend Shiner, and 4 totally spoiled cats.
In March of '08 I had surgery to fix a partially torn cranial cruciate ligament in my right rear leg. Surgery went fine, but being in a crate for 6 weeks was terrible! Plus I developed an infection 2 weeks after surgery. Mom gave me all the antibiotics the vet gave her, and I thought I was all better, however, 2 weeks after I finished them, the infection was back big time. It was horrible! The vet told mom I'd have to take the antibiotics for 6 weeks this time. Yuk. After I finished the antibiotics, mom took me to a place where I had to walk in a tank of water to make my leg stronger. It worked and I'm almost good as new. Mom and I have been working hard in Rally Obedience class so I was able to earn my AKC Rally Novice title recently. Mom also had my herding instinct tested and it turns out that I have a strong, natural instinct for it. I started herding lessons in January of 2009.
