Favorite Toy: Grunting hedgehog
Favorite Food: Mainstay and he absolutely, without a doubt L-O-V-E-D peppermint candy!
Arrival Story: One look at his adorable face and the sister I had selected was history. He was our faithful companion for nearly 10 years.
Bio: Jasper died of Cancer of the Blood Vessels. We made the decision for his vet to put him down in his home environment when his quality of life was starting to deteriorate. He died peacefully with the people he loved, in a place he loved, surrounded by the things he loved and in no pain.
Forums Motto: My yard was off limits to cats!
all my pals, new and old. Your rosettes, furever stars and kind words mean a great deat to Mom and me. It helped being able to share my Annifursary with pups and peeps that understand what loving a pet means.
{{{HUGS}}} to each of you.
Jasper
Jasper it has been 3 years since you left us to go to the Rainbow Bridge. But 3 years seems like 3 minutes since you left. I still remember that day like it just happened. I remember awaking that morning to the thought that by sundown you would be gone.
I remember the special treats I gave you that day. I remember our last truck ride I took you on. We drove for what seemed like hours so you could hang your head out the window and feel the wind in your face.
I remember coming home from that ride and getting angry. I wasn’t angry with you. I was angry with the cancer that had taken you over. I was angry there was no treatment much less a cure. I was so angry, I started digging what would be your final resting place just to get out my anger. It was near the grapevine you loved to lay under to cool yourself in the summer. It was in the shadow of the pear tree where you would pick your own pears to eat. It was near the garage shop where you and Daddy spent hours together. I never knew exactly what it was about that place that the 2 of you like so much, but I do know you were best buds. I chose a place that I knew you loved and it would be a familiar place to be when that time came. I didn’t want you in a sterilized vets office but where you belonged surrounded by things you loved.
As I dug that hole I began to think back of all the wonderful years we had together. I had an endless love for you. I would dig a while then I would sit and cry a while. You would rest your head in my lap and look up at me as if to say, Mom, I’ll be alright, please don’t cry. This went on for I don’t know how long, but when I became aware of the fact that the hole was chest high on me, I realized I needed to stop.
As the afternoon wore on I felt even sadder. Dad came home a little early so he could spend time with you before Doc Engels arrived. We all sat in the backyard waiting what seem like a lifetime until I heard the truck pull into the yard. My heart dropped. If ever there was a time I wanted to change my mind, it was then. But thankfully I took the advice of my mind and not my heart and let you go. It would have been a terrible injustice for me to prolong your suffering another day because of my selfishness. As Doc was preparing things, I gave you one last hug and kiss and walked away. Dad wouldn’t let me stay and I regret that now. I should have been the one holding you at the end but I am glad Dad was if not me. He loved and misses you too.
The following days were some of the darkest of my life. Only the death of my grandmother had been darker before that. I had lost other pets during my lifetime and grieved deeply for them, but you were like losing a birth child. We had an enormous love for each other that I will cherish forever.
On this 3rd anniversary I want to tell you that the love I have for you has not waned. I still love you more than anyone can imagine.
I miss you big guy and love you very much.
Mom
My good pal Sweetie has tagged me to play a game!
So here is how the game will go!
Each player thinks of 7 random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged need to write down in their own diary these 7 random facts about themselves -- AND the "tag" rules!
You need to choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don't forget to send them a "PawMail" that they have been tagged -- and that they should read your diary! So here are 7 things you may not know about me.
1. Mom almost picked my sister.
2. When I was 3, Mom and Dad adopted my sister Jesse. We had both parents the same.
3. I loved playing in the water hose.
4. Chasing a squirrel one day, I nearly tore my dewclaw off.
5.I liked the kitties, as long as they didn't get inside my fenced yard. One did once and I nearly killed it. The owner of the cat was very understanding.
6. Peppermint was my favorite treat!
7. My mommy loved me enough to take me to the University of Florida Vet School for a second opinion. Wasn't what she wanted but it help her let me go when the time was right.
OK, you guys -- now I've passed the "tag" on to you -- have FUN!
1. Holley
2. Moose
3. Booger
4. Spike
5. Freddie
6. Gretchen
7. Stormy
Have fun guys and gals!!!!
