My sisters had a tough weekend. I can't say mine was any great shakes either, and usually I like to have all the attention to myself, but this time even I agree, they had a tough weekend and they deserve all of Mommy's love and attention right now.

We were taking a walk, Mommy & Daddy, Stella & me, and Layla too. Layla doesn't usually walk with us because she's pretty old, and she'd really rather just stay home and sleep. But this day she was feeling pretty perky, and insisted on walking with us, which slows us down but is okay because she's Layla. So we're walking down the street, and along the way there's this big baddog chained up in his yard. He's barking and barking at us, and Stella and I are barking back, and Daddy tells us all to move to the other side of the street, just to give him a wide berth. Layla's doddering along behind us, oblivious to all the barking. And then the baddog's mom comes outside and takes him off his chain, and he comes running across the street straight at us!

He came for me first but Daddy lifted me waaaay up over his head, so he turned to Stella. Mommy had picked up Stella but he was able to jump up on Mommy and bite baby Stella in the hindquarters. Mommy could feel him trying to pull her away, and Daddy was kicking him and they both were screaming, so the baddog let go of Stella...and before anyone had time to react, he grabbed on to poor old Layla. He bit her head first and broke some of her teeth off, leaving big puncture wounds on her head and neck. Then he turned and picked her up in his mouth and ran off down the street, shaking her back and forth like a rag doll. Poor girl!!! He turned back up toward his house, taking his prize to his own yard, with Mommy and Daddy chasing and screaming and holding Stella and me so tight we could hardly breathe! We were so scared!!!!!!!! And all we could do was watch Layla flopping in his jaws, and our hearts were breaking.

Finally Mommy and Daddy cornered the baddog in his own yard and he dropped Layla on the ground. I've never seen anyone lie so utterly still and unmoving, with eyes so wide and unblinking. But the baddog wasn't done coming after her, and Mommy threw herself down to the ground and covered Layla with her body, and Daddy got in between them and the baddog. He was kicking and kicking at that baddog, but it wouldn't stop trying to get back at Layla! Finally someone came and put it in the house...FINALLY! The neighbors were all out by this time, and people were whispering that she was dead, but Mommy said No, she's not dead, she's hurt and in shock. Mommy kept watch over her right there in that yard while Daddy ran home, threw me inside, and got the car.

They rushed Layla to the emergency room while a neighbor watched Stella. Eventually the very nice neighbor brought Stella to the ER - in all the fuss, Mommy completely forgot that Stella had been bitten too! Obviously not as badly as Layla, but she got cleaned up and has 5 staples in her leg to show for it. Layla had a rough first night, as she was in deep, deep shock from what had happened to her. Her right rear femur was snapped clean in half, she had wounds on her leg and back, she was horribly bruised and shaken, and she was in terrible pain. It was a miracle, but she was alive!

She had surgery today to fix her leg, and the doctor says she's such a trooper! She did great, and she's recovering tonight, and she might even get to come home tomorrow!!!

Mommy and Daddy and Stella and I are so grateful, so thankful for the miracle they've received, and for the nice neighbors who cared for Stella and whose kindness won't be forgotten.

SKUNKED!

OMG you guys won't believe the nasty creature I ran into the other day! I'm out in my yard, just hanging out, when along comes this little black and white thing, thinking it can just saunter through MY yard. Well I let him know that this was NOT okay, he could NOT just come into my yard any old time, and he better get out NOW!

But that mean old thing! You won't believe what he did! He squirted me with some nasty stuff, and even though I ran away as fast as I could, he still got me. That stuff was so stinky too! I went inside and plopped down on Mommy's brand-new carpet, and I rolled around and rubbed myself all over, but nothing helped. Yuck!!!!

And then to make matters worse, Mommy decided this would be a good time to give me a bath...in V-8 juice!!?! What the heck was that all about? Well okay, I'll admit I smelled a lot better afterwards, but V-8? And why is she so upset about her stupid carpet when I'm the one that got sprayed AND bathed! And even after the V-8 and several more regular baths, I just don't smell right. I don't like the smell but I guess I have to live with it.

And if that stupid little animal ever comes back to my yard, I won't let it get off so easy! I'll make it pay for what I've had to go through. It wouldn't dare spray me a second time, would it...?

A New Friend

So last week I had my very first Thanksgiving Dinner...WOW! I never knew such a thing existed before, but this turkey stuff is awesome!!!

It all started one evening when my grandpa came over. I love my grandpa - he lets me sit on him and he scratches my ears just right, and he doesn't even mind when I bark at the world. So I'm sitting on grandpa getting a good scratching, when mommy gets up and goes outside. I ran to the door to see what was going on, and when she came back in, there were other people with her - and another dog!!! She told us that was her brother and his girlfriend, along with my cousin Bear. At first I was incensed that anyone would dare bring another dog into my dominion - how dare they? I barked and barked until mommy locked me up in the bedroom. I could hear Bear out there, sniffing around MY house, sniffing at MY Stella, and even drinking MY water. I was furious! After a while, mommy came and got me and carried me out to meet Bear again...this time I was able to be quiet for a few minutes before I started giving her another piece of my mind - and I was banished yet again to the bedroom. Darn it! When I showed that I could be quiet, mommy let me out to try again...this time I held my tongue, and went and gave Bear a good sniffing.

How interesting! I've never met anyone quite like her! Bear is a terrier mix about 3 times my size - but she didn't scare me! I was furry-ocious to the max. So it took a few tries, but eventually I decided that Bear is an okay kind of girl. I showed her around my back yard and even introduced her to our neighbor, Aggie. Aggie was scared and ran away - what a girl! Even Stella was scared of Bear, but not me! By the second day, we played and played like we were old pals. It was pretty awesome to have a new friend!

But I digress...the next day we all went over to my other aunt's house for this Thanksgiving I was telling you about. There was turkey, and potatoes and gravy, and more food than you can shake a stick at. It was incredible! I was a very good boy and sat nicely under the table, and every once in a while some random hand would show up under the table holding a piece of turkey for me or one of the others. We shared pretty well because we all knew we'd get some. We all ate till we were stuffed, then we laid around doing nothing for the rest of the day. It was definitely my kind of day!

Bear and the others stayed for several more days, and we all got along great! I'm looking forward to having another Thanksgiving soon - I hope it happens again next week and every week after that!!!

Well I'm barking off for now - Woof Woof everyone!
