Arrival Story:
When I was looking for an apartment in June of 2004, my main consideration when choosing was whether I could have a dog or not. So before I even found a place, I visited a local pet store and found Napoleon. I FELL IN LOVE instantly....But since I didn't have an apartment yet, I had to walk away from him. It broke my heart. After I got my apartment and started law school in August of 2004, it was time to get my doggie. I went BACK to the same pet store to see if they had any puggies for me...and to my surprise they STILL HAD NAPOLEON! Three months later...my little man was STILL at the pet store. By now he was 6 months old, and they were trying to get rid of him. I didn't give it a second thought and walked out of the store with him. It was meant to be. He was WAITING for me until I could have him.

Bio:
The reason why Napoleon was STILL at the pet store so many months later was because he had suffered a major injury soon after I saw him in June. Another puppy had punctured his cornea, causing him to undergo several surgeries and vet stays over the next couple months. The vet did save his eye (though everyone was unsure whether he could see out of it or not), and soon after he got returned to the pet store to find a family, we walked in to save him. A few months after we adopted Poley, he started having eye problems. I had to take him to a doggie eye specialist, and found that he had developed severe Secondary Glaucoma due to the trauma (the pressure developing in his eye was equivalent to a constant severe migraine). So...we, as a family, made the incredibly difficult decision to have his eye removed to relieve the pressure (we also discovered he couldn't see out of it anyway), and I had a second surgery on his good eye, closing it a bit so his little pug eye didn't protrude as much, in an attempt to prevent any future injuries to his "good" eye. Poley handled the surgery like a little trooper!! He never noticed a difference, except maybe that his headaches FINALLY went away. Most people don't even notice the "non eye" on first glance. And everyone agrees it just gives him that much more character. He's beautiful! :)
