My Auntie Carol does the MS Walk - 6 miles - last year she did it with her golden (and my bestest girlfriend) Calli. This year she invited me, and Boomer and Murphy - oh - and our owners - to join her. I forget how much we raised - over $2000 - Carol raised the most. Any-hoo. It was a warm day. Very muggy. It even rained a little bit before we started out. I managed to steal Krispy Kreme donuts and bananas from unsuspecting walkers who were carbing up before the walk, and our team, The Golden Girls, was last out of the staging area. What with stopping every 3 seconds for one of us dogs to pee or poop or sniff the other's pee or poop, we were LAST into the first checkpoint. We watered up pretty good and headed off for checkpoing #2. Carol's husband was waiting there for us. We got dog bones, and more water. Thank goodness for the water.
About 4.5 miles into the walk, Boomer had had it. He kept laying down. His people gave him more water, and we all trudged on. The sag bus kept circling us. Like a vulture. But we persevered. When we got back to the staging area, we were the LAST people in. I immediately knocked over 6 little glasses of water on the first table we came to. Then the pizza guy called us over, and I dove - head first - into the top box. NICE. Then the hot dog man threw me a couple of whole weiners. I couldn't disappoint him, could I? So I obliged by gobbling them up. We drank more water. Carol, Wendy, Amy, Chris, Amy's boyfriend - all were sitting down over by the pizza guy. My owner walked me over to the drink tent so she could get a cold lemonade. They were in big blue tubs full'o'ice. Well, this one tub was next to the table. It had about 6" of ice cold water in the bottom. I first dipped my head in to take a drink. I then gingerly tested the water & dipped my front leg in. Then the other. Just standing there, two legs in ice water, and that ahhhhh feeling came over me. I stood there for a few minutes - my owner cracked open & drank another lemonade . Well, then she said - let's go get another slice of pizza. You've got to get out of there. Instead of backing my legs out, I managed to get first one rear leg in, and then the other. Well - now I had found real paradise... ahhhhhh doubled. I just looked sooooo darn cute all curled up in that silly blue bucket. My owner called Carol & her camera over - she almost passed out from the sheer hilarity of the sight. The MS Walk official photographer also showed up, and he took pix. One of those pictures is on the official MS Walk website with the rest of the group pix from that day's walk.
That's my story & I'm stickin' to it!
Stay tuned for more of my antics.
