Leave a bone for ♥Gertie♥

Nicknames: Grrrtie ... Brat ... Miss 85 ...

Quick Bio:
| -purebred | -disabled | -deaf | | -dog rescue |
 Birthday: November 25th 2004
Likes: being with the mum .. & .. kisses on her big, black nose

Favorite Toy: her pink, stuffed "sheepfrog" that jiggles, bounces and makes obnoxious noises --- that everyone but Gert can hear ...

Favorite Food: anything she can sneak from an unwatched counter

Favorite Walk: down the "bin aisle" at the pet store

Best Tricks: turning her head so she doesn't have to "listen". .. her 'pig snort' impression ... her wolf 'howl' .. her "wooo-hooo!!" .. and "mommaa" sounds

Arrival Story: Gert spent the first 7 mos of her life tied to a leash outside with *very* little time inside. It was said she was "very naughty" and "too much to handle". At 7 months, her family realized she wasn't simply a very unruly pup - she was also a deaf pup. Gertie was the product of an irresponsible breeder. Her family was unable to provide the time, care and training for this pup who was now *psycho-dog* after being tied in the yard with little or no socialization, stimulation, etc. in her life. At 7 months old, Gertie was surrendered to rescue. Her first few *months* in rescue were spent with her foster mum at her side nearly 24/7 ~~ teaching that legs, butts, arms, etc. were not for biting. That barking wasn't the only way to get one's attention. And learning that she was LOVED and VALUABLE. After some major strikes against her due to behavior - Gertie was deemed unadoptable by the OES rescue group she was in and others. --- It was at that time we (her foster family) decided to keep her. ... It's taken lots of time, patience, more time, more patience and lots of love to help Gertie to learn how to be a member of a family. A journey that Gertie and we are still working on and taking together ...

Bio: Gertie was born deaf and with severe bilateral canine hip dysplasia. 13 January '06 she underwent surgery and is recovering from a TPO.
With the help of her "dogtors", angel friends, white light and prayers she will do even better one day. UPDATE: 01 June '06 Gertie has her therapy pool set up and loves it! Thank goodness.
