Walks walks walks. Take me out. I know where the cats are. Also, Snout Wrestling, Food, the vacuum (yes, the vacuum, he would come up and present his butt for vacuuming).

Pet-Peeves:
Having to stay in the back seat. HATED fireworks, and of course, the Black and White Nemesis who taunted him through the cracks in the fence.

Lieutenant Hedgie (honking hedgeghog plush) -- And anything upon which he could perform a squeak-ectomy.

In his day, all food was good, but especially crispy fish skin, greasy chicken skin, and bananas.

Favorite Walk:
Up to McLaren Park and then around the blocks wherever there had been cat-sightings.

Best Tricks:
Would sit for food. Ran for Governor of California. Kept the yard cat-free.

Arrival Story:
I went to the pound in June of 1993. When I came to Dave's kennel, he began leaping straight up in the air and literally bouncing off the wall with glee. In the "Get-Acquainted Room" he leaned up against my legs very quietly - almost timid. He had been found on the streets and his time was nearly up. I adopted him then and there. We often marvel at the number of people who must have walked by that kennel and kept on walking. They missed out on the greatest dog I've ever known.

Bio:
No one could be sure, but we think Dave was Chow, Lab, Pit Bull and Kangaroo. Dave was willful, manipulative, demanding, and thoroughly charming. He could charm anyone. In one afternoon, many years ago, he cured an 8-year-old girl visiting my neighbors of her morbid fear of dogs. He was quite musical. In addition to a strange talent and enthusiasm for singing (well, humming...) He had an uncanny ear for tunes. I taught him that the song "Do-Re-Mi" meant he got a walk. If you sat at the piano and played anything else, he was completely indifferent, but if you started playing that song, even if you slipped into it subtly, he began leaping around the living room. Conversely, he knew that the song "Stay" conveyed the obvious opposite message. In late January, 2005, Dave stopped eating. He was 12 years and 7 months old, or so. We did everything we could. Thinking it might be pain, we ground up pills the vet gave us, and mixed them with berry yogurt and spooned it into him. We spooned baby food, smoothies, and Hi-Protein Ensure into him, but the pills didn't work. He never regained is appetite. His decline was swift and on the evening of Thursday, February 3, seeing that he was in pain and knowing that all our efforts had not brought about any improvement, we laid Dave in the back seat of the car and started that long painful drive to the vet to end his suffering. But being Dave, and right to the end insisting that he do what he wanted to do on his schedule, he chose his own time. En route, while I gently stroked his head, he slipped quietly out of this life. We will miss him forever.
