Arrival Story:
I found Star on the website for a local rescue group. She initially appealed to me beacuse she was cute and looked a little like Duncan. When my husband and I met her, we immediately fell in love. She was the sweetest dog I had ever met, amazing in itself with the poor quality of life she had had prior to coming to the rescue. She had been turned over to the rescue by the father of the owner, because he felt that she was being mistreated. She was kenneled 24/7, fed poorly, and given beer to drink. She had also had a fracture of her left front leg that had not been treated and had healed poorly.

Bio:
When we adopted Star, we decided to find out if the left forelimb could be repaired. Upon the advice of our orthopedic surgeon, we decided to amputate. Her recovery from that was great, she never missed the leg for a second. About 6 months later, Star started limping on her back left leg. We did some xrays, and found out that she, at less than 2 years old, was suffering from severe hip dysplasia. We went with what we felt was the best option and in December of 2004 did an uncemented total hip replacement. While at the hospital the night after the surgery, she somehow managed to fracture her femur in the leg where the hip implant is. This led to another surgery the following day to repair the femur. After monthly follow-up x-rays, we found out in April that she must undergo another hip surgery due to the failure of the implant. So that is where we are now. We are just so lucky that Star is such a happy dog, she has no concept of the pain that she is in, she goes on running around on her 2 good legs, using the 3rd leg as a kicksand of sorts. We are hoping to have her surgery done in the next few months, as soon as we can sort out the financial aspect. So keep Star in your thoughts
